  1. Thanks i'll have a look over it now :-)
  2. Hi my name's Dan and i'm a carpenter in UK looking to emigrate too. I've done a fair bit of research and just have a couple of questions. I was wondering what the very first step is, do i need to fill out a form on the 'industry.gov.au' website, is that the first step towards the trade test or can you apply directly apply for a trade test? I'm sure there's an obvious answer online somewhere but i can't seem to see the wood for the trees! Also i was wondering about the employment history part. I've been self employed for the past 5 years so i can ask my accountant to write me a letter of proof, i was just wondering if that would be sufficient or will they request to see my accounts. (Just means i'd have to get everything up to date)!! Also am i better of to use an agent i'm in two minds at the moment. That's all for my questions, thanks in advance, much appreciated. Dan
  3. Thanks very much for the prompt reply. That's good to know. I'll get the ball rolling now then!!
  4. Hi folks its been a while since i was picking your brains for info, but just a quick query, as a self employed carpenter in uk shall i presume that DIAC will always want to see copies of up to date accounts in order to process every application or do they randomly select applications? As always any answers/info will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Dan
  5. Hi Chris. I chose Perth because there's a few lads i know out there so they'd be handy for contacts for work, plus i hear the money's pretty good too! I thought about a 189 too but i was told it can take longer than a 190 and i'm itching to get out there as things are pretty crap over here at the moment, the work is there but the money not great. Have you done your skills test? Is it difficult? I'm contemplating doing the tech interview as i think there's a test centre in Manchester. I can only seem to get up the test schedules up to May though, you don't know anywhere else that has a list of dates do you? Also i was looking at the paperwork you have to have ready for it, there seems LOADS! Do we really need to do all that? Sorry for all the questions Chris if i could afford another £1500 it'd be so much easier to get an agent wouldn't it. Cheers for staying in contact, much appreciated. Dan
  6. Hi Chris I'm from Oldham originally (where the streets are paved with gold)! but I've been living in Cork Ireland for the best part of 10 years on and off. No I haven't done Vetassess yet that's also another date to sort out this weekend. The soonest IELTS test is 8th June so I'll have to wait for that. I hope it's not a long process. Where are you from?
  7. Hi Chris i'm Dan i'm also a carpenter from UK looking to emigrate to Perth, also i think i've decided to go for the 190 visa. I'm quite behind you in the process as i've only just booked my place for the ielts test. I was wondering if we could stay in contact (though i don't wish to stalk you)! just to compare the times the visas take and also to swap any info we may have if that's ok. I'm very new to this and like everyone it's a fairly big step we're taking so any help/reassurance is always good wherever it comes from. Cheers Dan
  8. Thanks for taking the time to reply. I'll give TRA a ring tonight. Cheers
  9. Hi folks, I'm finally ready to take the plunge and wanted to put a couple of questions to bed if I could. My situation is this. I'm a 37 year old carpenter originally from uk but now live in Ireland. I've got all my trade certs (city and guilds uk) etc and think I'm going to go for the 190 visa. My questions are… Where does one email/ring/write to in order to do a skills test? Would I need to do one in UK or can I do it in Ireland? (Ireland is on the list of counties eligible to do skills tests)… Do I indeed need to do a skills test even though I have certificates? Also I've looked into using an agency but they seem expensive, is there a benefit to using them (are they quicker)?? And one last thing if I may, does anybody know how much EVERYTHING will be for a 190 visa, including police checks, medicals, skills tests etc etc. This really is a great forum guys so glad to have found it. I'd be very grateful for any advice at all no matter how small. Cheers, Dan
  10. Hi thanks for taking an interest. Yes my occupation of carpenter is on the lists. Does that make it possible? Thanks, Dan
  11. Hi folks this is possibly a silly and obvious question, but I'm curious to know if it is possible to go to Australia on a holiday visa and whilst I am there to apply for a residency 189/190 visa. I have a very understanding :-) cousin in Melbourne who is willing to accommodate me for the time it takes to go through which I'm told by friends of mine will be be 2-3 months if done in Australia. Is this good advice and also is it legal, it just seems too easy! Thanks, Dan
  12. Hi, thanks for the information and your quick response. I've got a feeling I may be back here again with more questions! Thanks, Dan
  13. Thanks very much Rupert that's probably saved me a few weeks of unpleasantries further down the line;-) I'm a carpenter and so my occupation is on the SOL so hopefully that may make life a little easier. Thanks very much for the swift reply Rupert and if you happen to come across anybody looking to sponsor a very trustworthy carpenter, I'm your man!!! Thanks, Dan
  14. Hi everyone I'm very new to this forum and looking to move over to Perth from UK. I have an eligible first cousin that is willing to sponsor me but I'm just wondering if there is an average length of time between when an Expression of Interest is lodged and it is looked at, or drawn from the hat as seems to be the case!! Any info whatsoever would be greatly appreciated no matter how small;-) great forum by the way, Dan
