  1. Hi MartinH

just to answer your question on work with sponsership visa... i am RMN , i hav had my LOE from AHPRA since March 2014 and have been applying for Jobs

since May 2014, i have send my CV to over 5O hospitals and agencies and have had 2 interviews which they have not offered or rejected with the post, got references

too by will just not make a decision. I belive if the posts are not filled by Australians or people with PR already in Australia then those like me and you at the bottom of the list will get the job offers.

Am thinking of Appying for PR now which will cost me an arm and a leg and come March 2015 my LOE will expire and will have to start again with AHPRA. i have a Diploma and i have just completed a top up degree and am terrified to face AHPRA again.

  2. I trained 1986-89 before diplomas or degrees. My school of nursing had relocated to a University . After 6 weeks of being passed from department to department going around in circles, I wrote a letter complaining and low and behold a sheet of very faded paper appeared from their archives. It wasn't a full transcript but all my study/ practice hours and placements were on it. Not that it will be any good to me as the new criteria has forgotton about us traditionally trained nurses even though I topped up to a degree .

Don't give up, are there any tutors still around who taught you? They may still have a transcript?

Has APHRA refused to register you with a top up degree??

  3. Right, I've read it all again. So they haven't issued an LOE then refused to register on presentation of ID etc.

they have issued me LOE based on previous rules but my fear is what if they refuse to finalize the registration once i get to Aussie and i wont be able to work...

  4. Barbie, do you mean that you have you had your registration approved under the old framework, but your just waiting to provide the identity documents in person? If so then this should be fine, they can't grant you registration, let you travel and then withhold it surely. Ring them or contact your case worker, or tweet them even just to check. But I shouldn't worry, I think you've been just in the nick of time to get your registration by the sounds of it!

Yes i have to present with in a year with a statement of character from NMC... but am just getting worrying that they might flip the coin on me wen am in oz. I would have finsed my top up degree but the time i go there. i will check with aphra again before i set off.

  5. We've been asked by AHPRA if we could post the information below.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

Hi all, I work in the communications team at AHPRA and we thought we might answer a few of the questions and ongoing issues that seem to have cropped up throughout this thread.

First of all, our apologies to those whose applications have been delayed as a result of the changes that have happened. We are working as hard as we can to process applications. However, due to the complexities of each individual application, the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (National Board) needs to review all documents with each application to make sure that our assessment is fair and consistent.

We understand your frustration and hope you appreciate that the assessment process takes time.

We’ve looked through the comments and discussions in this thread and would like to answer the ones that seem to be your core questions.

For starters, the latest information is available on the National Board website. You may also want to visit this page about the stages of an application which gives a lot more information on the application process.

The National Board’s website will always contain the latest information and our aim is to update the online information, particularly on the assessment process, with current information based on community feedback and any changes that happen.

Much of the material below is directly from the National Board’s website, so do check it out. If you have any questions please feel free to contact AHPRA or your registration officer.

Thanks to those sending in questions via our Twitter account – we’re working to reply as quickly as we can where possible. Keep in mind that, for privacy reasons, we can’t really discuss specific cases but we can talk to you about general stuff.

As mentioned, the National Board website is the main source of information, so we’ll generally link you to the right page(s) on that website for more information.

You will understand that the 140 character limit on Twitter makes it difficult to answer detailed or complex questions, or those about your specific circumstances. So if you have a question that needs a detailed answer it’s usually easier to either call us or make a web enquiry.

Which criteria will my application be assessed under?

The new criteria apply to all applications that were complete or received after 7 October 2013. If your application was fully complete before this date, the previous framework that existed at the time will apply.

This means that if your application was not complete by 7 October, you will be assessed under the new model.

Assessment of qualifications was put on hold while the new model was being implemented. The new model was finalised on 10 February 2014, and assessment of qualifications resumed at that time.

More info on the new model is available here on the National Board website.

Why is there a difference between ANMAC’s assessment and AHPRA’s?

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) is an independent organisation that assesses the skills of overseas nurses and midwives who want to migrate to Australia under a general skilled migration program – see International services on the ANMAC website.

The National Board, in partnership with AHPRA, assesses eligibility for registration as a registered nurse, enrolled nurse or midwife in Australia in accordance with the National Law.

Acceptance for skilled migration by ANMAC does not guarantee that you will be registered with the National Board.

Read how applications are assessed on the National Board website.

I have a DipHE (+/- experience as a nurse). Will my application for registration be approved?

Your qualification must be assessed to be substantially equivalent to a Board-approved Australian qualification. For example, for registered nurses this must be equivalent to a bachelor degree as defined in the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) Level 7.

A Diploma of Higher Education alone is generally considered to be AQF level 6 (along with advanced diplomas and associate degrees), which is below the required level for general registration. You may be eligible for a bridging program, which you will be referred to if your qualifications are assessed as AQF level 6.

For more information on the AQF and how it is used in assessment, visit this page on the National Board website.

Where your qualification leading to registration does not meet all eight qualification assessment criteria, the National Board will take into account any relevant subsequent nursing qualifications that may allow you to meet all requirements.

You can read about composite qualifications on the National Board website.

How long will my application take?

If you have already applied for registration and are wondering how long it will take to process your application, we regret that we are generally unable to give a reliable estimate of processing time. We will give clearer timeframes individually where they are available.

This is because we assess and process each application on an individual basis. The unique circumstances of your application will determine how long we take to process it.

Our goal is to resume our previous target of 4-6 weeks as soon as possible to assess and determine applications from internationally qualified nurses or midwives that are both complete and straight forward. Applications that are complex may take longer.

More information on processing time is available on the National Board website.

To enquire about the status of your application

To find out details about the status of your application, contact AHPRA directly or speak to your registration officer.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

Oh well the highlighted bit has answered it all.... i was assesed on the olf Framework and now am terrified that when i arrive in Australia they might refused to activate my registration as am a Diploma nurse and will be stuck and not able to work.

  6. I too am a RMN UK trained at the University of Nottingham graduating 09/2006 and have been worried about applying to AHPRA because I'm a little confused over their acceptance for diploma nurses? Has anyone had any negative feedback or concerns raised suggesting Post Grad. Diploma level RMN's not being eligible for registration? Would be good to hear from you with your thoughts.

    Regards

    Scott

    Hi Scott

I Just received my LOE last week, I am a diploma RMN and I did not have any

problems regarding my diploma. I had mega issues with my English

as am not a British citizen even though I have been in UK for almost

15 year had to do the English test to meet the criteria.

  7. Its a happy day, got an email with my LOE too and it was the same as

Jensik after further information was sent by Uni for criteria 2,3 and 8

They decided to assess my application under the old system. Am a

bit confused though, the latter says if I present 6months after I will need

to provide certificate of registration is that just the nmc current registration?

  8. i have just had a panic after reading about the AQF assessment.... I sent off my apprication in August 2013 and more information In September which the University

sent straight away and all was recived. I spoke to my Registration Officer on the 10th and he did not mention any of these changes and he just said " your application is waiting to be finalised, there is no time frame for this and we will be intouch" its sooo annoying.

  9. Here's our story - we applied for AHPRA (both UK Nurses) and got a confirmation email 10th August with the following "In the transition to National Registration, the criteria relating to Internationally Qualified Nurses and Midwives underwent significant change. This change and the increased volume of applicants for Australian Registration as a Nurse or a Midwife resulted in a delay in processing your application. AHPRA acknowledges that you have been waiting and appreciates your patience".

On the 29th October got the "all documents received email" (we'd sent them all at the beginning of Sept) but with this message "In recent weeks the National Board issued an directive that all assessment of international qualifications be placed on hold. This is due to extensive review of the framework under which these assessments is undertaken in Australia. As such there will been no further movement in your application and it will remain open. I have not been advised as to any time frame for the recommencement of assessment. I will be in touch when I have a further update regarding your application status".

After waiting and waiting, i contacted the NSW Nursing Union and they got hold of AHPRA and were told that "they're assessing all diploma trained nurses" which is also what NSW Health were told (we have jobs with them in Coffs Harbour). We are both diploma trained but also have BSc & Post Grad stuff in nursing.

However, when we contacted AHPRA they just repeated the "delays, waiting list, lots of applicants etc" and mentioned nothing about qualifications. The last contact we had they said "it's waiting for final sign off, it will be finalised shortly, keep checking your emails for you LOE"

We contacted ANMAC and they said that the framework they use for assessment was just reviewed with AHPRA in 2013 and ANMAC still accept UK Diploma trained nurses.........so we now think that they have a standard list of reasons that they randomly pick to fob you off!

We have our fingers crossed for Feb as that will be around the 3 month mark for 'all docs received'........and keep checking our emails :skeptical:

Oh dear it sound like there has been a lot of changes at AHPRA but they do not want to say what they are and they just keep fobbing every off. My OET expires in July and am hoping they would have given me my LOE by then. i check emails like a mad person..lol

  10. Sorry if this is a really dumb question but I've just been looking at the APHRA application form (AGOS 40) and am a bit confused about the Proof of Identity requirements...

The form says I need to provide proof of ID documents from categories A,B and C but I do not currently have any of the documentation they list on the form - i.e. I don't have my visa in my passport yet, or an aus driving license or an australian address (as I'm applying from the UK). I know I will have these things once I actually arrive in Aus but how can I provide copies (it says copies need to be attached to the application form) if I don't yet have the identity documents required? Do you just tick the ones you will be presenting when you arrive in Aus to verify your application?

I hope this makes sense, and that someone can help?!

    hi

i see what u mean about your passport but if you look at the small print this is what it says,

If using your passport, a certified copy of the identity informaton page (the photo page) must be provided

I think they just want u to send a passport that you will be using to travel thats why the mention of the visa.

    .

  11. Hi All,

my my wait seems endless, having sent my application in mid August, now mid January I emailed again for an update and got the following response

    Dear Paul

Unfortunately I am unable to provide you with any further updates. We are still waiting for further instructions from the Nursing & Midwifery Board regarding the assessment process for applications for registration for overseas trained nurses and midwives.

I will contact you as soon as we are advised.

wonder if I will ever receive a LOE

    Paul

I feel you Paul coz am in the same shoes and it is so frustrating. I guess we just have to sit tight and pray for the best.

  12. Hi, just to update all you who have applied to Perth office ahpra. I received a letter through my door today posted from AHpra on 30/12/13 (just took a week). I opened it thinking how strange, I thought I would get an email. Anyway, I sent my application off on 31/10/13 to Perth. My letter says that they have decided to offer me an extension till 28th February as all applications once assessed by a case officer have to go through the national board within a certain time frame. If the timeframe has passed and the application has not been assessed by a case officer, then the application has to go to national board and then is refused and classed as incomplete. The letter says then that to prevent this from happening we have extended your application to 28th February. Has anybody else got one of these letters? I just hope it is assessed by 28th Feb, I have just booked flights on 1/1/14 just because I wanted something to look forward to, my flights are not booked till 28th july so worse comes to worse, I could re-apply.

Oh that sounds scary and prolonging the application process. I got an emal

on Monday basically telling me to wait patiently as my application is I a Queue.

I posted it August 2013, trascript requested September and it was recived s week

    later and am still waiting.

  13. Hello knowledgeable people

Anyone that has gone over to oz on a 457, we're you ( did you have to be ) registered with aphra before you left the U.K or did you go over and just wait for registration before starting work?

Not even sure if this is possible but going round in circles with all the websites and different information.

    Beka

Hi, I belive you need to have a job offer and sponsorship from employer to apply for

457 and from what I have experienced job offers with sponsorship will

Come wen you have got your latter of eligibility to register from Aphra, unless

U are travelling with a different visa.

  14.

Well. I'm back to square one! I sent off my application in October! Had an e mail asking for documents to be certified by a justice of the peace, so had all documents sent over and application deadline was Boxing Day. Had an e mail on Boxing Day to state that my application was being cancelled and I would receive no extension. When I phoned they stated that the magistrate had not put his JP number on the documents. I asked if I could re send and she said no! She advices that I wait until they have decided on the national minimum of qualifications! If its degree, I will have to wait until September to reply or apply as an enrolled nurse. At this rate, all my documents I have currently sent out will have expired nd I will be paying for them to be certified again! I'm getting so on fused by it all! Aggggghhhhhhhhhhh! :arghh:
oh that sucks. Am so sorry.
  15. Hi, I sent my ahpra form to perth on 31st October. It was received on 14th November. They then received my nmc verification 27th November. Does anybody have any idea how long perth office are taking or how long theirs took? Also is there anywhere on ahpra website that says how long waiting times are? I know back in September someones took 6 weeks. Any applications in Oct, Nov, Dec please? I have my visa would just like to wait for this before booking our flights. Thank you.

I sent mine to Adelaide office on the first on August and am still waiting .

  16. Hi, I know how you feel, I am about a week behind you in APHRA acknowledgement and had to provide further documents which they received in September. I will keep an eye out for your cheer when yours arrives, may keep me positive that mine will not be far behind. Paul

have u heard from Aphra yet?

  17. Slightly off topic I applied to AHPRA and they lodged my application on the 15 October 13. They advised me to contact them in 6 weeks for an update if I haven't heard from them in the interim.

I haven't heard from them so I emailed them on Tuesday 3 December and got a long winded reply however at the end of the email it says my application is in the final stages and I will hear from a registration officer shortly.

Does anyone know if this means they haven't actually check my application yet and are just fobbing me off or is this actually as it says and my reg should be through shortly?

It soundly like you are being asked to wait patiently and not to keep on emailing them, that's my thoughts anyway coz i got the same reply at some point and then nothing for the next two months if i don't ring them i get nothing at all...i don't know if it is the Adelaide office or all offices are just swamped with international applications
