  1. I have been in Australia 11 months and now have my PR. I'm looking to send my cat over to be with me in Perth. I miss him so much and to be honest as a family we are totally lost without him. He is with my father who is doing a great job of looking after him but I so want him back with us so we can enjoy his great temperament and fun loving life.

I'm really worried he wont survive the flight though. Tom, my cat is 9 years old and got knocked down when he was 1 years old. Since then he is very fearful around cars, noise in general. He at times lives on his nerves. I'm worried he wont make the flight due to the noise and commotion around getting him in the create and the number of people that will man handle him. He doesn't take to people very easy either btw. i'm worried his heart will pack in with the trauma of flying.

Do you think its more humane to leave him in Scotland or bring him here to OZ with us?

Do you know if there is anyway I can get him chilled out in the cage that he pretty much doesn't know where he is and so wont care lol. I know they cant be sedated

  3. I am seeking a new employer i am with a Medical Recruitment Company at the moment and i wish to get out.

I have been here for 6 months however i find the politics and staff managment need to be addressed.

i have Trades and labour, commercial and Nursing Recruitment background.

if you know of any opportunities please get in touch.

  4. Now that i have PR and arrived in Perth, what now? Can anyone guide me to the next process?

Well it was bad enough that therre was no fanfare or flags when i registered at the local migration office to say i was here. But i simply dont know where to go or what is expected. We have a rental, been in it for the past year, I've applied for a car loan as i need a set of wheels (nothing flash) I have a TFN from when i was a temporary resident on WHV, but i dont know what i need to do now. Apply for a new TFN as a PR in Australia, apply for health cover i even hear people talking about tax returns but i have no idea what for or why.

slightly more confusing than the application process lol

  5. Well i have to say i am bloody excited to have an email today advising us we have PR!!!!

Its a great amount of stress lifted off us. I had thought it was a long drawn out affair but we applied in January 2013, had a case officer by Mid February 2013, had our medicals 11th March 2013, police checks we submitted to immigration Monday 22nd April and visa granted 23rd April .. Thats right less than 24 hours later!

We had thought it would be at least a few weeks to a few months!

  6. Does anyone suffer from this? I do and the Doc has said it's Vertigo and a middle ear complaint and given me anti histimines but they make me drowsy and despite being on them over a week there's no improvement. It's difficult because laid down the bed feels like its rocking and when I'm working especially when I'm looking up or down . I don't have a lot if faith in the Doc I saw he just looked it up on google ! I know I'm going to have to go back to Docs but just wondered if anyone else had had it and how did they get rid of it?

I had treated a Patient with this, here is what is on our good old NHS Website

  7. We have been told that it usually depends on the case officer but since then we are now married and it was 4 years ago. We have been together 13 years so surely it shouldn't be an issue... after all we all have dramas. It would be a shame to fall at this point in our application.

  8. my wife has a criminal record for "Domestic Abuse Aggravator" assault. Basically we were going through a rough patch and as i asked her to leave she slapped me. doesn't sound serious and i laughed it off. Anyway unfortunately for her a cop car passed by and seen it so arrested her. Anyway the conviction was there on the police check after we expected it not to be.

Her sentence was deferred / Admonished basically told not to do it again and if she did then it would be more than a kick in the arse she would get.

Is this likely to prevent us from getting our 190 visa?

    We're kinda worried now

  9. I have been in Australia for 10 months and we are only a month or so hopefully from getting our PR (i'm here on a WHV). basically i had to leave my wee British Tabby with my Dad in the Uk until i was certain that we would not be returning to the UK. This has taken about 7 months longer than expected and so i have been without my furry friend for all this time. (i skype with my dad on a regular basis and see him lol)

Sad as it maybe i miss the little fella, he has such a great character and i'm bloody sure he's more human than i am at times. Any my question is what is the dangers of him flying. Its worth pointing out that he lives on his nerves when it comes to loud noise. He was knocked down by a car at 1yr old and since then he is scared of noise that sounds remotely like a car engine. He has just turned 9 yrs old in September and by the time he gets here he will be almost 10 yrs old. Is there any dangers i should be aware of and do you agree about me bringing him over, he is most likely happy with my dad and living a good life but if i left him i would struggle to accept it.

    bloody confused!

money isn't an issue i'd give my savings just to get him over here

  10. Hi all,

Just a brief overview of my experience of importing a vehicle to Australia.

Well, firstly, I used 'Iron Lady Imports' and I have to say I would definitely recommend their services. I did the Visa process relatively simply without any external input but when it came to the car I felt it better to go with a broker. In the end it was definitely the right decision. I've generally been in touch with Craig who has organised everything from start to end. A big thing for me was ensuring the quote given for the costings did not turn out to be significantly higher. In my case I think it was pretty much bang on the money.

One tip I would have is if you are thinking of taking the car, for the relatively small cost, get the import license early. In my case I couldn't ship until just before I left the UK as I hadn't secure the import license. Moreover, my overriding advice would be to think of shipping the car earlier and rent a car in the UK so it is here when you arrive or thereabouts. In our case we had to rent for 10 days (obviously more expensive than in the UK) and then for the next few weeks make do without one. Whilst it was a bit of a hassle without a car for a big shop it was doable given our CBD location.

The car seemed to go through the inspection process relatively smoothly, whilst it seemed a long time (at the time) it was within the time frame Craig had given. We've now had one anchor point fitted for a child seat so all set to go now. The central locking did start playing up but I think that may have been due to the battery going flat during the weeks of inactivity. Touch wood, it now seems to be OK so hopefully just needed driving.

Car values, and in particular used car values, are high here. We brought over our Audi A4 3.0 TDI and they seem to be pretty expensive. Insurance was a case of contacting various insurance dealers, but we managed to get Insurance here for not dissimilar to that we paid in the UK. In our case we agreed a settlement figure, as there appears to be two options here. Either market value or an agreed value.

So thanks to Craig and the team at Iron Lady Imports and I'd definitely recommend them to those thinking of bringing over a vehicle.

    Cheers,

Is anyone able to import a car just off their own back. I am in Australia and applied for PR but i've already sold my car back home Audi S5 (gutted to say the least) but if i get PR i would like to buy the same car again but in Australia it will cost $75K where in the UK it will cost $32K (18K British Pounds).

Can you import a car here like the UK as a Gray import or something?

  11. Hi Paget, same happened to me also, my MA e-mailed my CO last week, he replied very rudely, saying that I have still to wait and also mentioned that he is not going to respond to any further e-mails about finalisation of the medicals as he checks his system for updates on a weekly basis. He didn't respond to e-mails 3 times before that.

how do you find out if medicals have been referred?

    Dave

  12. Good morning everyone!

Anyone else out there had this horrible mozzie virus? I live in Cairns and got bitten by a mozzie about 8 weeks ago and have been suffering pretty bad since then. It affects the joints, so its very hard to walk because of swollen painful ankles and knees, there's no strength in my hands as its also affected my elbows, wrists and fingers. Its not a life threatening virus like dengue thank goodness, but it's not very nice at all. It also produces flu symtoms with fever so im feeling really unwell with it.

Ive had it confirmed by the doctor and im doing everything possible to help my immune system, herbs and eating healthy but it still hasnt budged. It can take up to 3 months but sometimes even longer.

Im usually very active so im finding it all very depressing and also feel very alone with it. There's nothing the doctor can do and i dont know of anyone else who's had this so really its just rest up and wait till it goes. My hubby is worried sick as he sees me trying to walk. Im unable to work and feeling really miserable. Ofcourse this makes me very homesick and we are again thinking of going back to the uk. Being ill here makes us realise just what a lonely place it can be!

I hope you feel better soon :( hopefully someone will provide help via PiO:eek:

  13. We have a Golf and have found spare parts very expensive and takes a long time as they usually don't keep much in stock.

i also wanted to buy european like a citroen DS3. Very cheap here in WA. however my boss has a Golf (european obv) and has had a number of expensive problems. Its been said that the fuel quality here is so poor that the european cars don't cope well with it.

  14. sorry scotexpat, i can't really understand what u want to ask?

We had our medicals done and a paper copy got sent to our home address (we cannot open it and had to send it to Global Health) But our case officer got a copy of our medicals by email and he has them within a week.

I would assume it would be the same for you either way.
