  1. Well it's 8.31pm in Australia, The website is closed until 7am for maintenance so I would presume we wont get visa's until it opens back up. So it looks like we will start hearing from 10pm tonight... Although immigration did tell me it could take a week or two for us all to hear. It's nice knowing there is a chance. However, counting down to 10pm is like sitting here on xmas eve watching Norad Santa Tracker!

  2. We drove from Nottingham to Blackpool last Wednesday afternoon and had to avoid 3 'near misses' thanks to other incompetent drivers cutting lanes or slamming their breaks on and we saw 2 major crashes. On the way home on Saturday lunchtime only 1 'near miss' but again 2 major crashes. We had only done a 2 1/2 hour drive. Is it like that in Australia?

  3. They started in London at the start of the year but have been expanding them throughout their entire range. The Etihad website has lots of info on them. Lots of video's on their facebook page. Feel like a plane stalker.

  4. I usually plan my meals and budget accordingly in the UK but tonight we were short on time and went to Morrisons. A week's worth of food and toiletries £117!!! I couldn't believe it. Last time I just 'nip' to a UK supermarket without pre-planning it. Most the stuff was on offer or Morrisons own brand. Total alcohol purchased 1 x £2 bottle of cider!

  5. Woohoo nice to have you on board CaptainC!

Talking of uniforms in my job I have to frequently take trips with nice police men in their cars to make regular statements, I am a quivvering wreck in front of them. The problem is it's usually a night shift that I have to call them and I look like death warmed up!

  6. Yer the mrs will definitely plan ahead .. what is the wet season like out there >?

[TD]The Townsville area has a tropical climate but, due to its geographical location, rainfall is not as high as elsewhere in the tropics.

The winter months are dominated by SE trade winds and mostly fine weather. Further north the coastline runs north/south and the trade winds are lifted to produce rainfall right through the year. However, Townsville lies on a section of coastline that turns east/west, so the lifting effect is not present. As a result, our winter months are dominated by blue skies, warm days and cool nights - although every now and then we can experience a few days of showery weather.

cb_clim.jpgThe summer months are hot and humid with "build-up" thunderstorms starting in late October or November. Bursts of monsoon rains from late December through until early April deliver our highest rainfalls, and this is also the season that Tropical Cyclones can threaten the region. The monsoon winds coming down from the northern hemisphere pick up abundant heat and moisture to feed into the monsoon trough, often producing widespread flooding rains over the region.

Tropical Lows can develop within the monsoon trough, and when they form over warm seas, they can develop further into Tropical Cyclones, which can whip up destructive winds and phenomenal seas. A feature of Severe Tropical Cyclones (category three or greater) making landfall is the storm surge that occurs with them - a rising of the sea level which can be devastating if it occurs near high tide. Thankfully, Severe Tropical Cyclones are rare, effecting Townsville on average once every twenty years. Storm surge is even more unlikely - it is estimated that a surge one metre above the high water mark would occur, on average, once in a hundred years.

  7. So I have just returned from a 3 days 'goodbye' trip to see family (we are doing this now and in Sept) and getting ready for 2 night shifts in work. By the time all that is settled we will be nearly at the 1st of July guys, we finally nearly completed the wait. I didn't think I could survive that long without hearing but we did.

Going to be such an exciting time for so many of us in July!

  8. We are paying a $100 fee to a private school in an area near to where we want for our 3 children, this will secure them a place. However, we will decide on schools once we arrive and we know where we will be living. The private school will be our insurance!

  9. I am sorry I don't know. Perhaps search this forum with the code that is used to identify the form? Or try google, I usually find all answers somewhere on Google. I am sure this is quite common. I was convinced I must have spelt someone's name wrong or got a DOB wrong but for once I managed no typing errors.

  10. Hahahahahaha...... I've been on nights and me too..... Checking every couple of hours lol

I work in a mental health unit so my patients sleep most the night. I do my paperwork on the computer so I am checking every 5 minutes! I am so happy it's weekend. I feel like I can live again. I did facebook stalk my CO yesterday too haha.
