  1. Hi looking for advice, my parents have been refused an aged parent visa today on the grounds of my dad not meeting the health requirement.  My parents are 81 and 82 and have been in Australia since March 2019.  A few months after applying for their visa, my dad was diagnosed with dementia and failed his medical in October 2020.  My mum is OK and has passed her medical.  I am an only child and am a citizen.  As I knew with my dad's diagnosis, it was highly likely their visa would be refused, I have been researching appealing a visa refusal and was ready to go down that route.  However, Home Affairs have called me today say they cannot advise us what to do, but suggested applying for a Sub Class 602 Medical Treatment Visa.   I was shocked to get a call from Home Affairs, but the lady explained she knew I was an only child and wanted to express that they were sorry that this decision had been made.  My dad will need treatment and support as his condition worsens until his death.  My question is if I apply for the 802, and my dad were to die before my mum, where does this leave my mum?  Would we then need to apply for another visa for my mum again?  We have been given 35 days to apply for a 602 medical treatment visa or appeal within 35 days of today's date.   Has anyone been in this situation?  If so, what has been your experience of a 602 medical treatment visa?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Thanks for the advice.

Not sure why the inspection is taking place so soon. They have also said in their letter apt between 1.30-5pm and cannot say what time and that our dogs are to be restrained. Yeah right, of course I am going to restrain them for 4 hours on the off chance. Also, how do they expect people to hold down jobs.

In normal circumstances, I would have questioned why so soon, but in view of the situation we are in, I am quite looking forward to it. They can see for themselves without relying on pictures etc.

I might speak to the Tenancy people and ask their advice in the meantime.

  3. I wonder if you guys could offer some advice or point us in the right direction?

When we signed our lease for our current rental, it was agreed at the time with the owners that a couple of jobs would be dealt with asap. It is now three weeks and nothing has been done.

One of the problems poses a security risk and the other could create a pest control problem.

We have now been in the property three weeks and our container is due to be delivered on Thursday.

I have been telephoning the agent and have been quite friendly and they have said they will see to it, but nothing has been done. Today, I have written quite a formal email to the agent today saying that the current situation is unacceptable and they need to get it sorted PDQ. We also have our first inspection booked for 6/12.

What else can we do? TIA

  4. Just to say thankyou to PetAir for organising the transportation of our labrador Finlay to Aus. Everyone at PetAir have all been wonderful in the planning stages. We had left the UK 6 weeks before Finlay travelled and he was with the in-laws so we used the Gold service to make sure they didn't have to worry about a thing and it really made all the difference - reassurance on the bloods/certification, booking of all the travel, collection from Dumfries was professional and efficient and organising everything for his journey was just wonderful. We had Rachel looking after the planning for our boy and she was always there to answer any questions we had and had everything under control - she was really excellent. Finlay only arrived in Melbourne 4 days ago so still has all of his quarantine stay to go. It's not easy thinking of your pet scared or alone but PetAir have definitely made the whole process so much easier and I would recommend their service to everyone! Now the countdown til we get our boy back...!

Really great to hear. I hope Finlay is OK.

  6. We arrived in Adelaide Back in July, and would say a massive thanks to PetAir for delivering our Dog & 2 Cats safe & sound without any problems at all. We used the gold service and Joanna was great, guided us through the entire process. Massive Ebay style A+++Highly recommend

    That's great to hear.

  7. I also considered transporting my kitty and leaving her for a few months with my parents but unfortunately they don't live in UK but in Poland ... And I am not really sure that vets in Poland are familiar with the whole procedure :-/ I was hoping that I would be able to organize her transport from Frankfurt as there is a direct flight (with Quantas) that allows pets...

I'm also getting worried as I don't want to leave the cat for to long after we move.

Oh dear what a worry. I believe the pet carriers can offer kennel/cattery options. The only other option would be to leave your kitty in a cattery in Frankfurt and then have her transported from there direct to Oz. Obviously, you would need to speak to an International Pet Transporter in Frankfurt. Really would not know where to start with Poland. They may come under a different category entirely as well to the UK/Germany. The UK and Spain were both Category 4, I would bet Germany is in the same Category.

    Good Luck.

  9. Hi,

We are currently living in south Germany are planning on moving to Sydney next year in December. Does PetAir organize shipping pets from other European countries or just from UK?

I am almost certain that they do not, but best to check with them. Bob is very helpful and there are certain packages and options, which he could go through you indepth.

Our Hooligans are with us in Spain. I am planning on driving them to the UK myself and then PetAir will liaise with my parents in the UK re collection and onward transporation from Heathrow to Oz. I was warned by a pet transporter over here to send them via Heathrow as they are better looked after and apparently the authorities in Oz prefer pets to come in this way as they are certain that things are done properly in the UK (I am not sure how true this is, but they offered a Spain-Oz service so they were doing themselves out of business by telling me this.

The pooches are the most worrying part of this experience!!:err: Good Luck.

  11. can you please help me am looking at moving to Oz perth specifically and have a bull dog, she 5 months at the moment need to have someone help me, can you advise?

    many thanks

Bob at PetAir can help you with the practical side of things.

Lula recently took her bulldog over to Perth - about 3 months ago now I think. I have not seen her on here for a while, but if you PM her, she may be able to offer assistance as she has the same breed.

  13. Perhaps the vet has never had to get an animal "ready" for travel to Australia before.

We were lucky we called our vet first and he said he has had experience of transporting dogs to Oz so was quite helpful.

Below is a list of costs that I received from a quote.

    DHPPi vaccination £40.00

    KC vaccination £38.00

    Rabies vaccination £50.00

Rabies serology (blood) test (RNATT) £85.00

Blood tests + initial insecticidal treatment £175.00

    Export health certificate £50.00

    Worming & 2nd Insecticidal treatment £32.00

I am sure if you were to ask Bob at PetAir, he would break down the costs for you.
