Hello, just wondering if anyone could give me any ideas on a timeline, my son is engaged to a Filipino girl, they have applied for an offshore visa, was their only option, it is now a year ago, she is at the moment on a visitor visa and it is running out soon it has a no further stay on it, I know this is a UK forum but does anyone know the current processing times for a defacto visa for a partner from the Phillipines. Hi Nassim, The AOS has to be lodged with the Commonwealth Bank, and you would have to make an appointment and call in but some of their branches are open on Saturday and Sundays for a few hours, I just rang them and got an appointment. The interest rate is 4.10%, because I got the first statement from them recently and that was the rate they applied to the AOS. Mine was lodged last July. I got the Permanent Residency in January of this year. You might want to look at the correspondence you got from them because there might be a timeframe on when you lodge the AOS and it could hold up your visa.

Hi Ginny, sorry for the delay had to find the letter from Immigration my application was received on the 27th May 2014 and they replied by post on the 30th May so I reckon thats the same as receipting the 1st Val and with that letter they asked for the AOS to be lodged in my case it was $10,000, and there is a charge of $300 for opening that account, which is a bit much I think, but the only upside is that the interest rate on the AOS is 4% which is fairly decent.

Hi All, i have been randomly inquiring in this forum to get some feedback on the timelines for 173 holder applying for a 143. I seem not to get any responses yet or maybe i have missed replies.

If anyone of you has undergone this, can you shed light on the matter? Really appreciate it.

Hi Ginny, I applied for the 143 in June last year having held my 173 for 18 months, I was awarded the 143 in December, and I was in Ireland on holidays when I got the email asking for the fee and giving me 28 days so I contacted immigration and they were ok with waiting till I got back in January. There has been a recent development in the criteria needed to prove an ongoing & exclusive relationship. If I were you I would speak to wrussell who is the Agent on here with the current knowledge on this. He posted about it last week following a court case which set a new precedent I believe.

Hi @summerdaisy. They do not need to have been in the relationship for 2 years. That is incorrect advice. They can apply for a partner visa as they are in a registered relationship. They will of course still need to prove that the relationship is genuine, continuing, and akin to a married relationship.

Thank you so much Killara, her situation is that she is on a MRT visa being denied for graduate visa after a student visa, the case is set for 25th August and has been advised that it is a guaranteed loss, she is from the Philippines, would this have any bearing on the time span for the defacto visa. I really appreciate your help.

Hi All, just looking for a bit of advice, my son is looking for a partner visa for his girlfriend, they are looking at defacto, they have registered their relationship 9 months ago, they are living together 10 months now but are in a relationship since October 2013. They have been to see a Migration Agent who says they have to be in a relationship for 2 years and living together for one of those years. From what I have seen myself on the internet this does not seem correct, it only needs to be one year but they are anxious about lodging in case the agent is right and it would be refused. Could anyone clarify this for me, I would really appreciate it.

I will be now applying from 173 to 143 visa. I just want to confirm that: I need to fill up form 47PT and form 40. Submit one passport size photo, certified copy of passport and first visa charge $325. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Hi Blueray, I sent off my application from 173 to 143 on 3rd May, paid my AOS around July. I haven't heard anything yet.

Has anyone used VEVO? How do we see our work right ( for subclass 173) on DIAC website? On DIAC website in CPV subclas 173 under Visa Holders, under what this visa lets you do, it is mentioned , you have work and study right under this visa. However, in vevo form you do not see any work right . It is difficult to apply for jobs if you do not have work right mentioned in vevo as the employers check your vevo online to confirm your work right in Australia.

Does any one have any information about this? Is anyone working in Australia in CPV 173?

Hi Blueray, I dont know anything about VEVO, but I validated my CPV 173 in January 2013, have now applied for 143, I have been working in Australia since I arrived, the CPV has unlimited working rights.

Hi, I applied for the 143 visa about 5 weeks ago, I have the 173 and my son got mail from WA PVC this week to lodge the AOS $10k within the the next 14 days, am surprised I thought that request would come just before grant of the 143.

Hi I have just applied for the 143, I already have the 173, it was $17,000 up until around March of this year to upgrade to the 143 and then it changed to $19.420, it doesn't usually go up until July but it did this year and it was a huge hike. I heard its about an 8 month waiting period and I am taking it for granted that you can stay in Australia even if the temp 173 runs out before the permanent one is granted.

Thanks for that Andrew, really disappointed the fee to change from the 173 to the 143 has gone up $2,420 and was not due to change until July was hoping to get in before that hike. No real issues with the cost of living, but I'm working and the wages are good here so it balances out. The big thing here is the rent, but I'm lucky enough at the moment am living rent free with my son. Have been lucky too to have met some of the other people from this site and made good friends out here. Thanks again.

Hi just wondering if anyone could help with some information. I have the 173 visa and planned to apply for the 143 in June before the price hike in July but I have seen somewhere that the fees went up last week. I cant find anywhere how much they have increased. Would be grateful if anyone came across a link or anything that would help. I am a bit confused myself now, I thought the 173 was valid for 2 years from date of entry into Australia not when it was granted. Could anyone else clarify please ?

Hi All, just wondering if anyone could help with a query. I will shortly be applying for the 143 permanent visa, am here in Brisbane now for nearly a year on the temp 173. Due to circumstances my son had to return home for a while this year, he is back now but I don't think he will make the AU$40k income needed this year i.e. before end of June so that he can be my Assurer of Support. Does anyone know if I can get someone who is not related to me to do this for me or does it have to be a relative. Best of luck to you all waiting I know how hard it is but this website was a great help to me while I was waiting. Arrived last January and it was definitely the right move. I was so lucky too to have made two great friends Angie and Val on this site and we meet up and have become great friends. Looking forward to Val (Vava) joining us next month.

Hi Folks We are around the 13 month mark with our 173 application ,has anyone recently arranged their medicals prior to the allocation of a Case Officer.If so could you possibly share the process.I have read that this cant be done without a HAP number (whatever that is) .

 

If this is possible we are considering arranging this prior to the Christmas holidays,could possibly shave off a few weeks off this increasing wait period. Thanks Kev

Hi, I am here now on the temp visa since January, I had my medicals and garda clearance done before I got a Case Officer and I didnt have a HAP number, as far as I remember you only have that number if the agent sends in the details electronically, my agent went thro the postal system, I could be wrong but I definately did have my medicals and clearance done way before I got my Case Officer. Hi Nuttynan, can really relate to that, used to have sleepless nights waiting for a CO and half afraid at the same time. Am here 8 months now and its just great, you do get the odd day when you'd think about home. I have no regrets whatsoever and I was really worried cos I had no husband or partner so was doing it alone. Best of luck hope you get a CO soon and all goes well for you.

Hi Freesia, I paid $24,010 for my 173, and I'm really hoping that you are right that its $16,885 to change to the permanent visa. The table of fees is a bit confusing so I think I'll email DIAC and just ask. I'll have to think very carefully if its alot more. Thanks for the reply, will let you know if I get an answer. Fran.

Hi all, I arrived in Brisbane in January 2013 on my temporary 173 visa. To all of you waiting for the visa, I went through the highs and lows and it is worth it all, I love it here. The hardest part is making friends but I was so lucky to have hooked up with two of your members who arrived around the same time as me, Angie and Val and they have made it so much easier for me. I am asking for a bit of information, I am going to apply for the 143 permanent visa in the not too distant future (when I have earned enough money to get it) but am a bit confused, I heard the fee had gone up in July but from what I can see it on the Govt website it is still $16,995 or thereabouts. Could anyone throw any light on this. Thanks in advance.

Hi All, I'm here now 4 months and really settling in, still keeping an eye on this site and understand all the worries and frustrations. I have my temporary visa now and trying to earn the money to get the permanent parent migration visa. Just wondering if anyone could help, totally unrelated. A friend of mine is going back to Ireland and has toolbox he wants sent back would weigh about 300 kgs + , he is in no hurry so it wouldnt matter how long it would take to get there. Hi All, just wondering if anyone had any information on changing from the 173 temp Contributory visa to the 143 permanent one. I am only here since January on the 143 but am already thinking I will go for the 143. I would have gone for it in the first place but I couldnt afford it. I have got a job now tho its only temporary so am saving for the 143. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the fee is $16,885 I thought it was another $24,k on top of the 24k I paid for the temporary visa. Anyway, does anyone know is there much to getting this, I don't want to involve agents fees if I can and also how long does it take.
