  1. Hi,

A friend of mine who is currently working on a temporary visa in Senior Management with an Australian company in Melbourne, is looking for PR options. His company is ready to sponsor him and support his application. However before asking the company, he wanted to know the process and chances for his particular circumstances.

Any recommendations for migration agents based in Melbourne having experience of handling ENS cases, that he can talk to. Happy to engage with any Melbourne based migration agent currently active in this forum.

    Hi,

I am living in Brisbane as PR with my wife and kids, for around 5 months. I am working as full-time permanent employee for the last 5 months. I am planning to apply for 12 month visitor visa for my parents. My parents never came to Australia, however then have been to USA for 3 times to see my elder brother. My parents are 72 years old.

I have few questions regarding the application and will appreciate a response.

    1. Should I apply for Tourist Stream or Family Sponsored Stream? What have better options for 12 month visa grant?
    2. If apply tourist visa, How much funds will work, my father has term deposit and rental income?
    3. Basis of invitation to be mentioned in the letter or application? Any example or idea ??
    4. Do a invitation / cover letter is required?? What I should write in covering letter / invitation letter to make my case strong enough for 12 month stay visitor visa??
    5. Do I need to pay a bond??
    6. If insurance is required, shall I purchase it now or just attach a quote??

    Waiting for advice.

    Hi,

I recently applied and obtained 600 Tourist Stream for my mother. Based on that experience, my comments are following (Please note it might differ for your circumstances as others have said here)

    1. I applied for Tourist Stream, thinking that if that did not get approved then I will try Family Sponsored.
    2. My mother does not work and so I showed my finances (payslips and account statement in Australia)
    3. I attached a letter of invitation from my side, stating that I am inviting my mother to come and visit us temporarily and that she will go back to her home country at the end of the trip due to xyz reasons. It was a simple one pager.
    4. Yes, it is better to attach it. You should write as stated in above point.
    5. Not if you apply for Tourist Stream.
    6. Insurance is not required, but I recently bought health cover for my mother's upcoming 3 month visit (after the visa grant and when her travel dates were finalized). It cost me $420 for 3 months for a comprehensive cover that includes GP visits and 60% of pharmacy spend.

    Hope this helps.

It's with great joy that I am able to report an update, and the good news that I was finally granted my RRV 155 to return back to Australia, (Sept 11)  It's been a long wait, 120 days or 17 weeks depending on how you look at it.  I take back all the bad things I may have said about the immigration folk, the bad thoughts and words, all the names I called them, and all the infestations I wished upon them.?   Their lovely people really and for sure I was provoked into such words to be sure.

May I thank all you guys who commented or showed an interest in this post, and all comments were noted.  It is always good to share a problem, a worry or concern and I thank you sincerely for your help.  It is a true saying, "Patience is Bitter but it's fruits are Sweet" and I really feel that today with the relief of getting my RRV.  So I am heading off soon and will be happy to join in more on this forum when I am in Perth, and of course to seek advice on Life Down Under.  Looking forward to it,  -  Onward and Upward.

Best wishes to all, and have a blessed day.

    TOM ✌️

Very happy for you Tom. Best of Luck

  5. Hi, asking on behalf of a friend, as he is quite worried and want to launch a review with migration tribunal.

He was granted PR in 2014 and did his reccie trip immediately afterwards and is still living outside Australia (though was planning to move now). After which he got married and in the last four years had two kids, he applied for partner visa last year and got it rejected this year due to a medical finding for one of his child. The finding was Mild Developmental delays, on the background of childhood epilepsy. He raised a request for health waiver which was rejected and thus the visa was rejected. My queries are as follows:

    1. Anyone with similar circumstances can please elaborate or guide what did they do?
    2. If he moves to Australia alone and find work and starts living here, what are the chances that in the next one or two years he can apply and get the partner visa (spouse & Children) for his family.
    3. Any migration agent here with experience of challenging such circumstances in migration tribunal and what are chances for success. My friend wants to have professional help on this if the advice is to challenge it with the tribunal. In such case, I will forward contact details of such RMA to him.

#mext60 hope you’ve settled in ans are enjoying life xxx

Hi Everyone, as promised here is my feedback after living in Cockburn Central for around 6 months now.

There is nothing to complain. The apartment building we are in (Vicinity Complex) is wonderful (though lacks gym or swimming pool). Before moving, all that we heard about anti social behaviour, fortunately have not seen any so far. I am away for weeks (sometimes a month) for work but OH enjoys the time alone in the suburb and walks to Gateway for her shopping and outings when I am not around. She also enjoys the fact that the train station is next door, so when I am not around she can go to the city or other places. The intersection & fwy entry is an issue sometimes like 5PM on Saturdays or Sundays, however trust me it is nothing as bad if you are used to traffic jams on Shiekh Zayed Road in Dubai. Greatest thing is 3 to 4 lakes close by, which we normally go to on weekends. I normally take a walk late night (9 or 10PM) from my apartment on to the North Lake Road and back and fortunately have not experienced anything bad.

The only issues we had so far were due to the Police Station ? , because they left for a call with the sirens on after midnight and that woke us up. Very rarely drunk people screaming on weekend nights in the bar nearby (however that is normally not too late, around 9 or 10PM on weekends when we are also awake). Apart from that, everything is hunky dory so far.

Can you explain why migrants didn't save the UK or US from the Financial Crisis ?

That claim sounds a little fanciful to me as all the major countries have migrants. Why did migrants only save Australia ?

Because most of Australia's migrants are skilled migrants (Professionals), while in UK/ France most of the migrants were accepted under different streams and not under skilled migration.

Well all I can say to you mate is Good Luck.  If they have not answered you or offered any assistance and you are already there in Perth, working and providing all the detail that you have listed above, my case is surely doomed.  Whilst not a qualified migration agent, (very few are on here) it appears to me that you have a very solid case for continued residence in Australia based on the details you have stated.  Infact it seems grossly unfair that they have taken this length of time to deal with your case.

I have nothing at all to offer in terms of work etc.,  and obviously no longer have a lease.  Yes I have maintained personal ties and even have all my personal possessions in a 20ftcontainer there in Perth in storage.  (that's cost me and lost me around £12,000)  But nothing else to offer. I came home due to the terminal illness of my Dad and his subsequent passing left myself and elderly Mother with a lot of problems to resolve here in UK after his death.  So I am working on the GENUINE position of having genuine mitigating circumstances as a result of a parents death.   So I am not expecting any favours, not asking for anything other than consideration.  At the end of the day what will be will be and the passing of my Dad has made me realise that there is more to life than worrying over where one can live.  I would dearly love to return to Australia, but if it is not to be, then so be it.  I guess Ireland is not so bad a place to live, inspite of the rain.

Once again I wish you success and a speedy outcome soon.

Sorry to hear about your father Tom. May his soul rest in peace.

I believe these circumstances are serious enough for DHA to consider your RRV. Wish you all the best. If you hear anything from DHA on your RRV please do update here if you can and I will do the same if I get any update on my RRV application.

  9. Thanks Paul and yes that is the plan, to come back one week before visa expiry and then will talk to DHA again. In fact I also included a letter from my employer stating all my work related travel dates since my arrival in April 2018, showing that all my absences from Australia since April are work related and not personal. Have also attached payslips and PAYG summary and rental agreement for the house. What I suspect is that no one has even looked at the application as yet even after 14 weeks (at this point).

  10. Thanks Tom and Marisa for your responses. I believe I was not very clear in my earlier message, I am now based in Perth and need to travel frequently out of Australia for work reasons (as I am currently also travelling for work but will be back one week before expiry of current visa) so my worry is that if I don’t get my RRV then my upcoming work travel in mid October will be jeopardised.

  11. Hi Tom,

I am in a very similar situation. I got the PR back in Sep 2013, searched jobs for years while still being outside Australia, had a few interviews but no success and finally landed in April 2018 on a position secured with the company I was working with outside Australia. Travel facility on my original visa was expiring in Sep 2018, so just to be careful I applied for RRV on 21st May 2018, my 12 weeks were completed on 10th Aug 2018. I called DHA on 13th Aug and talked to a lady who looked at my application and told me that there does not seem to be any update on the case. I told her that I will lose my job if I do not get RRV as my current job requires me to travel a lot in Asia pacific region. She gave me an email address and asked me to drop an email and said they will normally respond. Dropped emails to that address twice in the last three weeks since then but have not yet received any response. So worried now. Though my original visa is still valid for another month, but I am really worried that if RRV does not come back on time, I will have a huge problem with my job and perhaps will lose it.

hello pips.just need advice.do i necessarily need a degree to become a an iccupational safety officer?

Not necessarily in Australia. Cert IV in WHS seems to be a standard amongst OHS professionals here.

  13. Thanks everyone for your feedback. Much appreciated. One more question, living in Dubai for 13 years in an apartment, me and mrs are more comfortable living in an apartment as compared to a house (at least for now, as we are assuming that for the two of us house might be too much at this point till our family grows). Lately someone commented to us that it is safer to live in a house in Perth than an apartment. I did not understand that logic as the apartments we have viewed so far have access control so one would assume that they shall be a little more secure than a house.

Apart from security, any other known issues with apartment living in Perth as compared to a house. We are about to close a rental agreement for an apartment in Cockburn Central (apparently the building looks very neat and clean, stylish interior and access control, so were not able to find any fault during inspection and have given our offer).

    Thanks in advance.

  14. Hi All,

Coming back to the forum after a long time, was very active here when I was applying for my 176.

My company in Dubai is moving me to Perth on my request and their offices are in Henderson 6166. We are a family of two, me and mrs. My job will have a lot of travelling and wife is not keen on driving, so while looking at areas to live, we have narrowed down to Success 6164, and we are looking at apartments next to Gateway Shopping Center and around Cockburn central. On suburb reviews on homely dot com, success's rating is low. I was wondering if someone can provide feedback on the suburb and specially on how safe it is. Any general feedback will also be appreciated.

    Thanks

  15. Well, I had similar circumstances, i.e. a degree in Mechanical Engineering but work experience in OHS in Engineering firms, that was assessed as positive by Vetassess in 2012. Though I had around 5 years of experience. So if you need further information please let me know.

  16. Hi Rebecca,

I have PR with that category, however did not find it easy. Degree was not classed as relevant, they do not recognise NEBOSH, I have 13 years as a H&S Manager with a blue chip company, none of which was relevant.

So..... I had to do my MSc in Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety Management, thought that was fine, but then had to complete twelve months work experience POST my MSc. They wouldn't count any of my previous experience which was very frustrating. In the end I got our PR granted two weeks before my 40th birthday (at which point I would have lost 5 points and then would have needed another two years work experience!).

We have just activated our visas and are planning to make the move May 2016.

I am am worried about work prospects when we move as I have no Australian experience, so will have my fingers firmly crossed!

    Laura

Best of Luck Laura. I also gained my PR under same category i.e. OHS and did my validation trip in Jan 2014. Now planning to move in Q4 2016.

Lets be in touch as we will be moving in the same year and can help each other in getting into Australian market.

    Regards,

  17. My wife, son and I moved here just over 6 months ago from Dubai we here we lived and worked for the last 6 years. Moving to Australia has always been a long term goal of ours and we're happy that we are now finally here. However I'd be lying if I didn't say we are finding it quite tough financially.

    :err:

Wish you all the best matte. Reading your story has scared me but nevertheless I wish you the best in Australia.

I am currently in Dubai since last 9 years and am planning to shift by the end of next year i.e. 2016. So I think I shall be pretty well prepared in terms of cash in hand before shifting. My earlier plan was to move to Australia with cash of about AUD 40K or something which shall last us 5 to 6 months (time that might lapse finding a job in my field). We are a couple with no children. I am not sure now after reading this thread if that money would be enough.

  18. Why cant Australia just have a parent visa, wherein the comprehensive health insurance coverage has to be arranged by the sponsor (children in Australia) and this requirement can stay for the first 4/5 years.

I believe Canada has a similar arrangement for parent visas called "Parent Super Visa"

  19. Dear Lalbiotech,

I have completed my NEBOSH Diploma last year and am also currently working in Middle East, please let me know how can I help?

On VETASSESS, I did gain approval from them when I presented them the combination of my Bachelor's degree in engineering and various professional trainings in H&S including NEBOSH Certificate.

    Regards,

  20. hmm agree to some extent and I believe everybody has a unique experience with IELTS...

I gave it once and scored all 8s and 9s except for Writing, where I was 7. And I know the mistake I committed in writing i.e. not using the time efficiently....spent 40 minutes on letter and 20 on essay.

I prepared for IELTS for two consecutive weekends through a website shared by a friend.
