I had to go through immigration global feedback and put in a query asking why my application has almost taken two years and still there’s no approval.

It seemed to me they had forgotten about my application, they replied to my query after 2 weeks saying that the application is approved today.

Congratulations! Did you follow this link for the global feedback?

  2. You "may" be asked to provide a bond if you choose to apply for a "Family Sponsored" visa, and you're better off getting your parents to apply from their country of residence.

"Generally" for first time applicants, the visa validity is 1.5 years, and you may be allowed to stay in Australia for 3,6 or 12 months during each visit.

If stays greater than 3 months are requested, the applicant has to undergo a chest X ray examination. If the applicant is over 75 years of age, a medical examination would be required.

Have a look at this site which will walk you through all the steps: http://vfs-au-in.com/

Thanks for the detailed information. Can you advise me (or just by chance have an idea) how much the bond would be ? I am okay to go with a bond provided it is reasonable. My mother is okay to go for a Chest X Ray. She has just turned 60 last month.

    Regards.

  3. Dear All,

My husband and I are 190 PR holders and would like to call our parents as tourists in New South Wales soon.

I understand that I/we have to file Visitor visa (subclass 600) for the same.

When I fill the details of my mother and choose a family-sponsored holiday, I get below.

Complete Form 1418 Application for a Visitor visa — Sponsored family stream (478 kB PDF).

    AND

Form 1149 Application for sponsorship for Sponsored Family Visitors (223 kB PDF).

And when I choose, a holiday, I get below.

Complete Form 1419 Application for a Visitor visa—Tourist stream (480 kB PDF).

Now, both the above options are for visiting family. Which one shall I choose and so that there is a better possibility of getting a longer visa (2-3 years) with max 6 months condition.

Importantly, if I go with a family-sponsored holiday, as per my understanding I need to fill Form 1419 and my mother has to fill Form 1418. Now, since she is in India and I am in Australia, how to move forward with it.

Just to give a background, my mother has just retired and we have enough funds to show that she can survive here very well. Moreover, my husband is working so financially it should not be an issue. Also, we have proof for property in India which I have heard is also useful.

Please help me out in this.

Thanks in advance for your all your efforts in answering my queries.

    Regards.

  4. Well you just don't need to do you? What do you think you would be going in there for?

You cannot claim any benefits for two years do why would you register. It would be like walking into a UK benefits office when you cannot / don't wish to claim benefits. If you had kids then there are child related benefits however.

    Thanks, got it.

  5. I can't think of any reason why you would register with centrelink, assuming it is just the two of you.

    Hello Rupert,

Well, centrelink registration thing has always been dicey for me. Can you please elaborate why it is not required for two of us ? Would it be a different scenario if we had kid(s) ?

    Regards.

  6. Thanks SAPcrmboyindia for the detailed information. My name is different than what it is in passport. Sorry, I could not understand the first point.

1.get the Notary done that Passport name and DL name is SAME .
  7. Looks like a good plan. You might want to hire a car to get yourself mobile - you need one to shop for one! - and they are easier to pick up at the airport than in the suburbs. You will also want a cheap mobile phone and SIM card - available from supermarkets.

Thanks, that is also on my TO DO list. We will buy two contract phones from vodafone as soon as possible. For the initial start, we do have Lebara SIM cards which currently has $ 1.5 credit each and can be charged online.

  8. Hello,

I am on 190 VISA and would be reaching Sydney in second week of April with my spouse.

I have read few threads and came up with below list of things, I should do as soon as possible after reaching Australia.

I have also listed down action items which I have already completed so that it would be helpful for others too.

Please let me know if I am missing anything.

    Regards.

  9. We are also on the 410 visa since 2003. At the moment we wouldn't be eligible to change to a parent visa, but not sure that we would if and when that might change. When we balance up the $43000 ? charge for each of us + other charges? That's an awful lot money

    Hello Ramot,

I was just curious to know that is diabetes an issue while issuing contributory parent visa. My mother is taking medicines for diabetes, thyroid, and blood pressure. Everything is controlled other than her diabetes. Its not very high, but slight above the normal range.

    Regards.

  10. No, we were here in Melbourne. I agree with the Pom Queen, you need to see the place as we saw probably 11 properties - all of which looked great online - before we applied for one. If you are signing a lease for a year you want to know you are going to like it.

I have few friends living there who can finalize the property on my behalf. Can this work ?

    Regards.

  11. Yup, in order I got my bank card (account opened from UK before we left). Then I used my passport and visa grant to gain my Medicare card. Once I had that I went and applied for my DL and used passport, bank card and showed my medicare card also but don't think they needed it as passport and bank card were enough points to meet the 100 required for DL. So I think you'll be fine with what you have and an Aus DL.

Thanks snifter. But, I believe having an Aus DL would take some time. :(

  12. We used our UK licences and got the first place we applied for so it didn't seem to be an issue. We gave our birth certificates too, do you have those?

    Hello Jahooliab,

Unfortunately, we do not have our birth certificates but have other proofs (like our educational mark sheets, Income Tax documents, Marriage Certificates, etc.) which bear our date of births. Did you got the unit when you were in UK ?

    Regards.

  13. The main things you need are

    passport

    medicare

    driving license

Most agents will understand that you haven't got the full 100 points and are very flexible, however, you will need to show you have funds to pay and photo ID

Remember as well agents won't entertain you until you arrive.

Thanks for the super quick response. Will a non-Australian driving license work ?

I can show funds in my NAB bank account statement.

So there is no option to reserve an accommodation until we are personally there ? Not even if, I send (email / fax) them my documents ?

    Regards.

  14. Dear All,

We are a couple having 190 VISA and are traveling to NSW (Sydney) in first week of March 2014. I have heard and read that one has to provide 100 point documents in order to secure a rented accommodation in Australia.

Please help me out with the documents which are required to attain 100 points. I have tried to Google it out but different sites have different points for same document(s).

    For example

    http://www.tenancycheck.com.au/tenancy-forms/rental-application-forms.dot -- Medicare Card 20 Points

    http://bellerive.ljhooker.com.au/renting/rental-application-form -- Medicare Card 30 Points

We only have NAB Bank Statement and Debit Cards of Australia. We had opened banks accounts when we were in Syndey last year for a week on VISA validation trip.

Rest all documents (like Passport, Drivers License, Marriage Certificate, Bank Statements, Medical Insurance Cards, Credit/Debit Cards, Educational Certificates, etc) are NOT of Australia.

Once we will reach there I will apply for Driving License (as I have 100 points as per this link), NSW Photo Card, and Medicare Card.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards.

  15. Well I cannot see into the future better than anyone else, but if I were planning to move in April next year I would just wait and see what the exchange rate does. To me, it looks like it is slowly returning to its natural and more sustainable level after a few years of being overvalued and I expect it will continue to do so.

To your question, Australia is not a police state, you can carry as much cash as you want. Big amounts need to be declared at customs but that does not mean it is not allowed. It just strikes me as very stupid though. What if you lose it or are mugged?

    Hi Rupert,

You are absolutely right. I am not thinking to bring tens of thousands of dollars in cash, just AUD 2-3000 each for both of us in cash and rest I will get it transferred to my NAB account. I just wanted to check if this is permissible as per Australian norms.

    Regards.

  16. Hi there,

not currently. Rupert already answered your question.

As a PR you're may be eligible to sponsor your mum after two years residency.

    Thanks Silencio,

I would go with option of "Multiple entry multi-year visa" as suggested by Wrussell. All I need to find out is which subclass suits me the best.

    Regards.
