Hello Everyone,Just a quick one...We were granted our PR from a 457 in October last year. My husband has been offered another job, however, we are unsure if he can change employers before the '2 year period'.I have now been on hold with DIBP for 78 minutes, so I thought I may get an answer sooner if I post here LOL!Does anyone know if the '2 year period' only applies to RSMS 187 or both? Thanks in advance :-)
Hi
Like the others have said, the 2 year rule doesn't apply. I would however watch out for your present company clawing back visa costs for PR from you. I know I had to sign an agreement that said if I leave within 4 years of PR then I will have to pay back all costs - which is about 10k with the immi lawyer they used.

We used to out a old pair of knickers on our female dog to save the mess. Maybe give that a try.

Yep, as the others have said, I pay $50.00 for 2 hours cleaning.
Sorry, Cant help you with the other things.
Cheers

Hello Beck.
Does your father have an ETA or eVisitor at the moment? When does it expire?
Are you sure he needs a BVB?
For reference: http://www.gm-parent-visas.com/aged-parent-visa-lodged-can-you-depart-australia-and-return/
Best regards.
Hi Alan,
Thanks for that information - really interesting.
Dad has an eVisitor that is valid until September....I had assumed (wrongly obviously) that this got autimatically cancelled when the BVA was issued with the 804.
Thanks

They process the BVB's in order of departure. I have seen people get a response within days of departing - but I have never seen anyone not get one in time.
I believe they like you to send them within a month of your departure.
We sent ours in a few weeks out and got a call from the Melbourne processing centre (where we sent the application) the following day.
Thats great - thank you so much.
One last question....!
Dads parent visa will be dealt with at the parent center in Perth - so does the bridging visa app need to go to them too....or can any office jumo in and do it?
Thanks
Beck

Thats great news - Thanks. Blossom, I know you are in Adelaide too - did you just hand your visa app in at the curry street immi office then? Were they quick to process?
We have a fairly tight timeline unfortunately......so hoping dad doesn't need to delay his pre booked flight back to UK - obv he will if he needs to, but not ideal.
Thanks so much for the replies.

Hi all,
We are just in the process of applying for an 804 aged parent visa for Dad. He will need to head back to the UK to finalise his affairs, and then later in the year to NZ as we have a family wedding.
So, my question is, I know we need to apply for a bridging visa B so he can leave the country, but the immi website is a bit sketchy about the finer details of this bridging visa. Does anyone know what the terms would be? Are they likely to say give the visa for a year, but in this time Dad can be out of Oz for x amount of days, or is it more specific, like he can be out for the next X amount of days?
Thanks in advance,
Beck

Sounds lie you have had a tough time Damo, best wishes for the future wherever that may find you.

Hi Adele244,
Like has been said above, it depends where you are moving too.
I am in Adelaide and know of families that live on 55-65k and manage. They are not on the breadline.....but have to budget.
We pay $60 a month for internet - broadband (no phone line)
Our last quarterly gas bill, so 3 months worth was $250 - we have gas hot water and an oven.
Electricity - we have solar, so can't be much help to you with that.
If you are renting, you wont need to pay council rates as the landlord pays these, but you may need to pay water charges. This isn't usually much, I would budget $50 a month
In adelaide you would be fine budgeting $400 per week for rent - can't comment on other areas though.
Good luck with the move

Just get it done when you get here, its really easy to sort - just go to GP and they will organise. If I remember, its a course of 2 or 3 injections.

Thanks calingary and beckdownunder. It just seems quite daunting as I suppose my skills are quite general. Am hoping to go over for 6 weeks next summer so will do a bit more research on companies int he area I am going to and see if I can network through linkedin.
Can I ask if anyone knows what the situation is if you wanted to start your own business? What type of visa would you need and would you need a certain amount to invest?
Hi Partnership,
Sorry, I don't know anything about starting your own business. Maybe speak with a migration agent and pick their brains about your different options.
I think coming over for 6 weeks and being able to meet up with people and network is a great start.
Good luck

beckdownunder - what business/career are you in ?
Hi Canuck,
I'm a Loss Adjuster - so I handle insurance claims.
-
when I was looking for a sponsor, I just researched the companies in my field of work and sent them an e mail with a copy of my resume. There were 4 big players in my case and I heard back from 2 of them and both offered me a job with sponsorship, so its definately doable.
Good luck!

Hi Beck
Your Dad could have the pension monies continue to be paid to his UK Bank and then transfer over as required or with the UK State Pension arrange to have it paid direct to an Australian Bank Account and may also be able to with his private pensions although would have to contact them directly to establish whether they offer this arrangement.
If he requires the money as part of his regular income requirements then it would seem having it paid direct could be a better option (if possible with the private pensions of course) rather than having to arrange himself and thus incur fees/commissions on regular smaller currency transfers.
HTH
Andy
Thanks for the info Andy, we weren't aware that the UK government would happily pay him direct here in Australia, so that's great news that they will.
Cheers

Hi
My dad is moving over to Oz to be near us in december. He is 67 and receives the UK gov pension and some small pensions from his and mums (widower) works over the years.
What is the best strategy for him? He is thinking of keeping a UK bank account to have the funds transferred into as usual and then just periodically sending money over to oz.
Is this the best way of doing things? Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers

Hi everyone,
I have been watching this thread for a long time - since I got to Australia originally in 2011. There's some great advice here and I want to share my timeline so far.. mostly because I can't think of anything else right now!!
Nomination was submitted: Unknown
Nomination approved: Unknown
Visa application submitted 26/02/2014 (including all docs and medicals)
Awaiting approval. The DIAC log-in portal says my application is "in process".
186 visa, 457 transition scheme, using MA - DR.
I am feeling anxious because the company I work for is being sold, so am really hoping that this is approved before the sale is finalised. There's been some good news though for people who's applications were lodged at the same time as mine getting approval quickly though, thanks for sharing.
Fingers crossed...
Good luck Laika! You only submitted 2 days after me, so fingers crossed you will have your decision very soon.

Hi Menuk
My understanding is that you will need to complete Form 80.
Yes, you can travel overseas whilst the application is in progress.
