Hi guys, FWIW - if you've completed a 'preceptorship' program in the UK, or a period of supervised practice (e.g. if you were returning to work etc) That might well fit into the 'observership' category.
In the radiology world - which I'm familiar with - it's called a PDY (professional development year)/Intern year.
Good luck with it all

Hi Iron Chef
We're coming over in next few months and my hubby wants to take our car I said its not worth it. Its in top condition. Are you going to prove me right???
Audi A6 1.9SE diesel
2003/100k/air con
We buy any car suggest £2800
I know Chef will get back to you, but we brought over a similar car (54 plate estate and all the gadgets, including leather seats etc). We couldn't actually sell it in the UK back in October and we'd dropped the price to £4500 so we brought it over. FYI, the only modification it needed in Victoria was the Child seat anchors

I'm an aussie who's returned home after 9 years (this time with a husband and, of course, the viscous attack-labrador).
And yes I really do mean viscous
It's a lot of work, and it's complicated. (I found it hilarious that it actually was easier for hubby to get a medicare card etc than it was for me to get a new one!!!)
Ok, it's not that complicated but I did find it funny
It's pricey, and you'll take a bit of a hit initially - but if your gut is telling you to do it - then go for it
-
Amazon and the like are fabulous - not only do you avoid the VAT problem (cos you're already paying it in the price) you don't have to remember to do it as early.
And I don't think I've ever remembered to send a present early enough for it to get there in time!!

Hi Bazinga, I've also not been on this thread recently.
Onshore times vary a lot, but I visited DIAC recently (needed statement of travel) and the guy who helped me said that the main reason onshore times vary so much is because there is a huge variation in the quality of evidence that people provide. (Apparently some people just send in the form, no evidence...)
Good luck with it all, hope you get everything sorted out soon!
Also not been online for a while, pleased to see the times coming down too. Wish we had applied end of September now too but we were waiting until OH was settled in Oz. Hoping to submit by end of January now. Have a 'mare with evidence etc. Is there a thread for ONSHORE times does anyone know? Have looked but can't see. Finding it very hard being apart with two kids so trying to see what our best options are.congrats all!

that average time at the moment seems to be just over 4 months, so just hang in there,we didnt contact our c/o and ours still came in on the 4 month mark, good luck with your application it shouldn't be 2 long 2 wait now ,
We had LG and got hubby's visa in just under 4 months (we spoke to her about travel plans and she managed to get it sorted in time for us!).
She was always prompt at returning emails and stuff, but if she hasn't asked for anything more then chances are you're all ready to go and might as well just leave it!
Just make sure to get in touch with her if you intend to travel or change contact details

You don't necessarily have to have an interview - we didn't and got the visa back in october for my hubby.
Also you don't have to submit your passport because it's an electronic visa - but it's usually a good idea to send your passport in after it's granted to get a proper label in it as evidence. Immigration won't need it, but it can make it easier for people like banks etc who won't have access to the visa system as easily

Grats to all the new visa holders!!!! Woo hoo!!!
-
Grats on your visa MM2Melb And fingers crossed for hubby's job!
Fingers crossed there'll be a load more visas through this week
-
Congrats to all the new visas!!
I'm now in Melbourne, waiting for hubby to join me in just under 2 weeks - fingers crossed the time will fly!
Cheers
-
But, I'd never noticed that about Fridays and visas!
-
As an Aussie citizen you can ship you stuff - no worry about the visa
-
Our CO was LG She's been good all along really, but always quoted the company line - '5-6 months'. Then she told us it'd be through before Jon flies 8/11, then WHAMMO!! less than 4 months
-
Hubby got his 100 today as well!!!
Yay for finding all those old bills to prove our defacto before being married!!!
So pleased
-
Yep that's what I think too - you could always email your CO and ask if you're safe to book flights after the 15th November if you like
That might satisfy your OH's nerves...
-
We don't have PS (we have LG) but hubby was advised not to do his medical until he was requested.
Which he was - on the same day he got an email confirming who his CO was!
Don't worry - I'm sure you'll get there soon enough
-
I still havent been able to get hold of Virgina but phoned the embassey today and was told that my email i sent regarding some changes had been put on the system but were not sure to as why shes not answering her phone or replying to emails. They are going to get her to contact me (hopefully)
Fingers crossed you can hear something back at least to know she's still around...

I am in a 7-year same-sex interdependent relationship (as the visa-lingo defines us), resident in Oxford UK.
29/09/11 - sent off application (frontloaded: 47sp; 40sp; 80; 88; Values Statement; Medical; Police check; & all required suporting evidence & statements).
30/09/11 - email received stating our payment couldn't be processed -> panic stations -> quick phone call to bank -> no problems -> resubmitted payment details via email over Aus. public holiday/weekend.
4/10/11 - 1st day open after Aus public holiday. No C.O. email, so called to confirm payment had been authorised & application being processed. Relief!
Will update as progress has been made...
Arrgghhh that must have been nerve-wracking!!!
You should get a CO email any day now, ours was 4 days after the payment was taken.
I was confused for a minute by the public holiday - then realised of course it's canberra not victoria!
Different states have some different public holidays - the main ones are all the same, but some of the 'smaller' ones are different
-
We got the 100, we're ecstatic!!!
We emailed her 2 weeks ago to ask if there was an update, and she quoted the 5-6 months. We couldnt believe our eyes when we saw the email today!!
Good luck, I'm sure yours wont be far behind ours:biggrin::biggrin:
Congratulations!!!
-
Yesssssssssssssssssssssssss
309 visa granted. Now get me on that plane.
Grats!!!!!
Who was your CO again? I have the memory of a sieve!
-
Doesn't have to be NZ - just find a good deal and make sure it's flexible Hubby will do whatever's cheapest when the time comes, because I'll be too busy working to go with him
At least I hope he does !

Our container swapped ships in Singapore (I think) and I seem to recall this is a common place for the swap-over ...
