  1. I e-mailed pay-role last week, no response. I e-mailed the national HR manager to day, this has been passed back down to my old PM who has asked me to a meeting on Thursday. I fly out next Wednesday. I think that I'll be in touch with Fair Work Australia. Thanks

  2. I move back home next week. My old firm still owe me 1 weeks’ wages (they paid the rest), also they owe me rent money that was deducted from my final salary payment - that should never have been. I think that they are hoping that I will be on the far side of the world and there is bugger all that I would be able to do about it. We're talking about 4k dollars. I don't want to go down the route of a solicitor as they might eat up all that I am owed. What can I do about this??

  3. Agree with you but sorry if this offends anyone, if you can't afford to emigrate in a way which won't see you thrown out or having to leave then I think best stay where you are. Australia is not cheap and hopefully people will one day realize for their own and their families benefit.

So if a bloke is out of work for say 6 months, cannot afford to do bugger all, is offered the chance of a 457 visa, where the company will fly him and his family over, with the chance to start afresh, in your opinion, he should stay where he is. Complete nonsense

  4. I can't believethe amount of venom directed against 457 visa holders on this site. A lot of it seems to be from posters who have PR, and hate the thought of people coming over on 457, who they think may have had an easier ride or may not have spent the same amount of money. I have seen a few posters post that "I spent a lot of money... well so what!! try and not be so nasty. Someone else made the comment, that PR were potential voters, well so could 457 visaholders be potential voters.

This is rubbish legislation, that nobody could have foreseen, not even the wonderful visionaries on this site that have PR. If they can change the rules for the 457 visa holders without thinking of the consequences, they can just as easily do it for PR visa holders. You are not a protected species.

    Rant over......

  5. I've got my letter of redundancy today. I finish up work at the end of the month. I have 3 months to leave the country, but we'll be gone in about 6 weeks because we could not afford to wait around that long, and the OH wouldn't wait that long. My questions are these:

The company have given me in writing, my redundancy notice (I’ll live with that), but in conversation they have said that want to be able to withdraw that notice in the next 3 weeks if a big contract comes up.

If the big contract does come up, and they suspect it will (though obviously they are hedging their bets), and I am offered a place on the new contract, (which they say I will be if they win the contract), and I do not take the position, am I refusing work and therefore “resigning” from my position? Because I think their position will be, “you are resigning therefore we are not making you redundant, so get lost”, or because I have it in writing do they still have to make me redundant.

There is about $40k at stake here.

Because they relocated my family and I and all our possessions to Australia, if I am made redundant, do they have to relocate all our possessions the other way?

I know that they have to pay our fares back, and I’m sure that they will pay the cheapest options they can find.

P.S. I hope this reads O.K., because it makes sense to me

  6. Another consideration which should be outlined in your contract is whether you are liable to pay back any relocation expense that they may have paid for you. In my contract this is outlined as a % of costs vs time left on contract. Good luck

A guy I used to work with said he got legal advice saying a clause like that cannot be enforced. Obvioulsy do not take my word for it and get independent legal advice.
