  1. The hotel is paid for... It's part of the flight package. They will just be hanging around he hotel overnight so will need just enough money for snacks and a meal or two.

We won't be opening a bank account just for one day as we already have uk accounts.

just a guesstimate on meal prices would be handy.

    thanks

  2. My wife and kids are flying to London via Seoul in sept with Korean air and I wondered if anyone has any experiences with reference to stop over. I have read that they should pack overnight bags as your luggage goes straight through. Also any recommendations for. How much money recommended for brief stay? Any info would be appreciated.

  3. geeez catlover1, I had thought I had put Policing to bed, over dealing with **** end of society on a daily basis and politics too. I am mates with a copper and he is just as jaded as I was and we have come to the same conclusion that the job sucks but pays well. I think I will seriously have to consider it again as we cant get a mortgage on my wage now and cant get anything better. We are classed as rural here but my concern is being posted to the middle of nowhere and have to jack it in before I started as I will not be travelling 8 hours to work for the week.... I have looked at becoming a PI and have got the certificate to go ahead but the majority work on a subcontract basis which I cant do as I need to rely on a regular wage.....

I think I need to bring up policing again with my god wife and hope she doesn't hit me or kill me with her dagger eyes as we have really become accustomed to weekends and tea time as a family....

  4. I have been back in Oz for almost 2 years now and I am absolutely fed up with the job situation here. I am an ex Police Officer with 7 years experience and welder/ fabricator previous to that. I got a job here within 2 months of arriving and still in it. It is mining based ( not on site but manufacturing for mines) and I cannot for the life of me get a better paid/ rewarding job. I have mostly applied for Govt jobs and have had only 2 or 3 interviews from about 15 applications. I will concede at the very beginning my CV may have been not 100% up to scratch but I had it professionally reworked and now looks great - I can say this as I recently was tasked with taking on a new member of staff and saw the very low calibre of CV layout that was sent to me.

Most Govt jobs have criteria to address using the STAR method which I can do fairly well, yet still I wont get an interview. One interview I went to for an admin officer for NSW Police I was asked 4 set questions - are they serious ?? or was the job already gone ?? how could you possibly recruit someone after asking 4 simples questions without probing further into their work/life history ???

I am not in any way saying that I am the best person for every job but to get such little response is quite hard to accept. I spoke with a family member who works for a federal agency and was told there are a lot of internal moves happening which begs the question why advertise the job if it is earmarked for an internal member of staff.

Am I the only one getting this ?? if I am then so be it I am not up to scratch and can work on it. Most times when I ask for feedback I get the old " although your application was of a high standard it was not considered for the position or some crap"

I have considered my skills were not the same as Oz skills so forked out for Oz certs but sill no luck,

    is anyone else finding this??

  5. My Wife had her partner visa granted yesterday - straight to subclass 100 ( we have been married 7 years and have 2 kids)

    The application was sent 21/06/2011,

    delivered 23/06/2011.

    Payment of £ 1130 taken on 23/06/2011.

    Medical done around 22nd July

Visa granted 21st October - I make that 2 days under 4 months

Latest entry date being 27th May 2012 - due to Police check running out.

Our Co was WP. The only correspondance we had was the original email confirming allocation of WP as our CO and asking for certified copies of the kids birth certs and we missed a question out on one of the forms. We did not get confirmation of the medical being received or anything else - we didn't ask either. Just plain ol' left them to it.

Now just need to sell the house and bring on the new year aaaahhh an actual summer season rather than the season of ' not winter'

Best of luck to every one waiting - don't worry it will get granted its just a matter of time.

And a big thankyou to everyone here on PIO making the application process fairly straight forward as we could find the info needed here and any questions we asked we were given straight answers - thanks a bunch guys....

  6. I posted my visa on Wednesday (special delivery) and I know thet received it on Friday morning (according to royal mail) - but nothing has happened yet. Am I expecting an email or just to see money go out of my account?

Should I be worried? Everybody elses seems to have been taken the day the application was received?

I didn't check my account till 4 days after the application was received. According to my account it took 2 days to show up. I shouldnt worry just yet.

  8. I was wondering if its worth importing my Kia Rio hatchback 1.5 CRDi 1 5 dr on a 2010 plate ? I bought it under the scrappage scheme so got it for about £5500. Taking into consideration shipping costs etc would I be better off selling it in the UK or not?? I am not looking to make money from it but I do like it as it gets me from A to B comfortably.

If I were to import it any idea of the total costs including shipping?? I am quite happy I pass all the criteria for importing

    cheers

  9. Hi,

Kind of new here and I expect this has been answered a few times now but quite frankly I find the idea of searching through 330 pages a little tedious !!

I am an Aussie who moved to the UK in 2000 after meeting my English (now ) Wife. We married in 2004, we have 2 kids 4 and 1. I know the kids are entitled to an Aussie passport and my Wife can apply for a spouse visa whilst offshore. I do not forsee any issues with having one granted (fingers crossed)

My question is - is it best to get the medicals and Police checks done first and send them off with the initial application?? or wait till we are asked for them... I kind of figure send them off in the first place to save some time ( not that we are in a great rush). Also should we get the kids their passporrts before we send the wifes application off to put some more weight to hers.

Lastly for the moment is there a timescale on the spouse visa where it must be activated in a set time ?? We have a house to sell and all the rest that everyone else has to do before we can set a date to leave etc.

    any help would be appreciated.:err:
