It’s probably game over for us to be honest. 60 points (have industry based qualifications but ACS doesn’t acknowledge them for migration purposes ), no degree by 18yrs experience, maxed on English scores already even with a Vic sponsored application will still only bring us to 65.
In another 11 months we will loose another batch of points due to age.
GUTTED
Sorry to hear that. Its a horrible feeling. Just seems like a complete waist of time.

Its a weekend killer, were the same as you one step for word two back

Just want to get points for my bricklaying qualifications not after working as a bricklayer in Au. Just found Migration skills assessment which is paper based and just checks your qualifications. Its not clear cut so just wondering if anyone else has used it to get some points?

Hi,
Thanks for pointing out that it is for the invitations. If I am yet to submit my EOI, does it make difference if i do it before they increase the points to 65 considering that at the present moment I only have 60? So, my main concern to get the invitation to apply for the visa will they assess it against 60 points (in force at the date submission of the EOI) or they will apply 65 points anyways?
I am still at getting the invitation stage...
Thank you for your help!
Regards,
E
This is a nightmare (65 points) only just found out myself

Hi All
Just found out about the points being raised to 65, so now we are short by 5. So only just started looking to see if i could claim some for being an ex bricklayer. I have not been on site for over 10 years but have 13 yrs experience. (been doing building maintenance for the past 12 yrs) just need an extra 5 points to add to the wife 60 points. So does anyone know if this is possible, I'm not going for a bricklaying job in oz so don't need a skills assessment just need to get the points if possible.
Thanks for any help on this

Hi All
Any Occupational Therapists who have had to get top points on the Ielts test out there. Did you do the General or Academic? the wife has been researching Academic because of nurses doing it, but the agent has said it is just general. So just thought i would double check. cheers all

Just make sure you are doing this for you, regardless of visa. The Oz government have announced that it wants to make big changes including removing lots of medical proffessions, so do not assume you will be eligible. You very well may not be.
What have you heard on the grape vine??

The honest answer is I don't know. All I can say is that there are definitely opportunities out here, it may take some time and you may have to go where the work is, but eventually she would. I know when my employer was looking to recruit a few months ago they were happy to consider new grads and overseas trained OT's.
The stage 2 supervised practice is fairly straightforward, just a lot of paperwork (and more money!!)
Maybe have a chat with one of the agencies. I registered with global health source when I was in the UK and they regularly contact me now and ask if I'm looking for work. Your wife may find some useful info on their website, and they can advise her what areas are most likely to need OT's. Look on seek.co.au for job info, and to get an idea of salary etc
Hi me again Global Health Source seems like a really good company, they got straight back, and offered to help when we need it. So thanks for saying about them. Hope your having a good week.

apparently you get 5 for the state regional and i think i got 5 for having a trade or 5 for her age, one of them. I know we only just got 60 that's why we are going for the 489 and not the 189 no 5 points for the 189. I think the biggest hurdle like you say is the no work experience. But hay ho we will try
sorry apparently 10 points for 489 regional

Look at globalhealth.com.au
Yes we are on the Central Coast in NSW and it is amazing. Is there a reason your wife is not going for a 189? If there's any chance you could get that it would be much better with more opportunities. Good luck, but happy to help with any questions.
Hi
There is a lot going against us ie her age 42, no work experience, she will have to get top marks on the Ielts test just to get 20 points, just to get 60 points over all. So the agents are saying that's are only real option. And that's not a given. We have been trying since 2011. I'm a bricklayer and thought i could go on my points but then the world recession hit and bricklaying come of the SOL list. Its back on now but i have been doing building maintenance for the past 12 years so don't qualify anymore. two step forward one back and thank you for helping us

Thanks Serendipity for your advice. Can i ask what agent you went with. I have been in contacted with a few agents, and have been looking at seek but its quite tricky because if we do get a visa (489 regional) that means we can only go to that area. And looking there are normally only a few jobs at a time. your regain is not on there, which is a shame because it looks lovely. We are going to go for it, and let fate take its course.

Happy to help answer questions if I can? Fire away. I'm not sure of the 489 requirements. I applied under 189 as an OT. Used a migration agent, sat IELTS, I think I had 65 points due to 20 years work experience but had minimal points for age as was 43 when we applied so just scraped by!! Visa granted March 2015, Emigrated in October 2016.
What particular questions do you have?
Hi Serendipity thanks for getting back, what chance do you think she has of getting a job (OT) with no work experience. I know you have 20 years so that part is not a problem when you were looking, only asking you because you have boots on the floor. The region you are in looks lovely.

PS thanks for any help My head is spinning with all the questions and info

Hi Eloise
i want to ask you a ton of questions but don't know where to start long story short wife is finishing her OT degree, only got 60 points, looking for a 489 reg visa, no work experience, she is 42 but always work in care and health so loads of experience in non trade jobs. If we can get a visa, do you think there are company out there what would consider a newbie?
