Thanks everyone, Im really trying to live by the whole "I'm not responsible for others Happiness" but as the time gets closer to apply it gets harder Definitely some big girl pants required! Blue Flu that would be exactly my mum's response..in fact your neighbors done well to even get her out there! My mum said if we were meant to fly we'd have wings! And I can't take her grandchildren away from her! I think that's the pull factor if we had no kids I'd be off tomorrow. @Cobs_Ahoy we're not much further to be honest. My IELTS is November I've gathered my information so once that's done we can start setting some wheels in motion. How about you?

So I'm guessing for most people telling the family was the hardest part? I'm interested in stories from those who knew the reception wouldn't be great. When we told our family last time my mum near on stopped talking to me, my dad was supportive on the outside but my step mum said it would've broke him once I left and my in laws were again supportive to our face but I sensed my father in law was not thrilled We didn't end up going and now 2nd time round I don't know when is the right time to say anything...I feel this time I want to wait until we've actually applied for a visa, as last time we told everyone from the start. I don't want to cause unecessary upset if it doesn't go ahead again, but I also feel like we're going behind peoples backs not saying anything at all. So how did you go about it? Leave it till last minute or open from the start?

I'm not degree trained though. I'm diploma trained with a degree in top, does that count?

Great thank you, this is handy to know The fight is the same here currently in the UK it takes a lot of fighting from parents, such a shame as most children with a learning need can achieve if given that extra bit of support, instead my son is labelled as unable to focus...and I'm like but what if he's learning need is stopping him from focussing..help him! So frustrating

Thank you for that information. I'm not coming out thinking I'll get lots of help and I am doing my research hence the post. As I said he's going through diagnosis process already so I just wondered what the support was if any once out. If it's none then fine we'll do whatever it takes to get him that privately

I'm not 100% I need to do one I was diploma trained and then do a post grad degree, it's for APHRA registration so I won't find out till I'm out there. So I will get out there and then go from there

Hey Thank you, I have done the English test before when we started the process 7 yrs ago (think that certificate has expired now ) I think you are right, just my husband started having a wobble, and like i said, knowing how long the whole process takes it can't expire once the initial process is done. I asked the NMC and they were really helpful they said when I fill out the form for ANMAC and then there's an option for APHRA as well. Though from what I've read you can't register for APHRA until you're out there as it has to be done in person.. I may have misunderstood that though. Will you need to do a bridging course? X

Hi all, Can anyone advise, I've got my IELTS booked, and I have contacted NMC for verification of qualifications. They said once certificate issued it lasts 3 months Is this 3 months to then complete the rest of your skills assessment and once completed that's then valid for longer or 3 months Inc visa application time? I'm sure its the former as I can't see it expiring when visa application can take more than 3 months?? Also has anyone needed to make an AHPRA? How long did the whole process take for you?

Thank you, No not yet we're doing our information/evidence gathering at the moment. He is currently in a mainstream school and achieving expected standards, he doesn't get any support at the moment other than handwriting intervention which is given by the classroom support. He struggles sometimes with focus and then sometimes his behaviours are a bit impulsive and excitable but have improved as he gets older, again as no diagnosis he's not on meds and I don't think he'll need them. Whatever it is it is very mild, So I don't think he should cause too much of a worry to the Australian government, I was more interested about the potential dyslexia side of things, if it means I need to pay for private or if that help is there in school already. In the UK once diagnosed he gets extra time in an exam, if he's stuck on a word someone can read it to him, and they get different coloured paper as apparently that helps them too.

So I'm just wondering, We will be making the application based on my skill set as a nurse, however we will have enough savings that neither of us will need to work straight away, and the ideal scenario would be that my husband is actually the one who gets the full time job, and I would then get part time once I'm happy everyone settled in schools etc. Is that a feasible plan or as the visa applicant do I have to be the working one?

Hi all, My son is 7 and I'm the UK we are going through the process of having him assessed for a processing learning need. I think there's a level of ADHD, but having spoken to friends I think he definitely has a processing issue such as dyslexia. My question is in the UK they don't test for dyslexia until 10yrs old. But once diagnosed there's lots of support. And the potential ADHD diagnosis will come soon, and again then the support will be there. Does anyone have a child with additional needs in Aus schools that can comment on the support and the process of gaining diagnosis? What has your experience been? I know we'll have to pay for it, and I've been advised to get whatever diagnosis I can in the UK first. TIA

Not sure I've posted in the right section, We've gone to a few agents and the fees really vary, both MARA accredited, one was from this site. One has quoted £1080 pound sterling to do initial searches and then once visa selected the whole process including fees estimate a further £3-5000 The other has quoted $300 Aus dollars to do initial checks and searches but can't give me a price for there after as it depends on what visa option we go for! I feel more drawn to the one who's open with prices as the other I feel will sting me with a massive charge once commited, that's quite a difference in price though it's almost non comparable. Does anyone mind sharing what their agent fees were, and whether there were hidden extras etc?

I didn't no, I got a bit confused how it escalated to Switzerland Thank you for your information on school, though what I meant was probably what you're saying, sport opportunities, outdoor living etc, I'm more interested in life opportunities than education, as in, i want my kids to be happy and success for me isn't measured on how high an education they have. We have contacted two migration agencies who have given us prices, and are both MARA registered. One I found through this site and one I found myself. Hopefully we get the right Visa for us. As I said in my other comment we have a financial back up plan, though hopefully won't need it, but I am wary of coming on the wrong visa and not being able to stay.

Did you? Those issues are all over the country. London is my nearest city, and there's no way i'd be able to afford to live there, or would I want to, North of England is cheaper housing wise but this is reflected by the wages. Maybe further south would be an option, but this country is slowly becoming more divided the gap between rich and poor is bigger, schooling opportunities don't measure up to Australia, and generally the way of life either. There isn't anywhere in the UK I'd want to live, I want to leave and try and start a new life and fresh start, which is what most people I would thought have made the move wanted to do.

@Craig ColasColas can I ask, did your wife do the ANMAC and APHRA applications and then just find work once in Australia? Who got the 491 visa was it you or her? We are looking at a similar route, and have discussed going over to a fixed term job, and then once over apply for the PR. It would be useful to know that it's possible to go with the qualifications but without the job and start applying once out

It was a price comparison site comparing cost of living, and then at the bottom there was a link to a comment section on life in Perth and if say for every 10 negative comments, like really negative, there was 1 Luke warm positive We have family in Bali who we have visited, it would be out local getaway for sure. Just starting the long process now, forgot how many loops and hoops you need to jump through before even considering visa application
