  1. The visa that NZ'ers are issued on arrival in Australia is the Special Category Visa (subclass 444). The conditions of this visa are that the NZ passport holder does not have any criminal convictions. So if this applies to you, then you normally won't be entitled to that visa at the border. Instead, you would have to apply for a visitor/work visa, like any other foreign traveller.

A past visa refusal won't normally be a problem but without the specifics of the refusal and any restrictions imposed as a result, then it is not possible to say.

    Thanks Captain.

The rejection of PR visa can only be on the basis on not being able to qualify or having enough experience for designated skill from SOL. I asked this question because I vaguely remember a rule where you cannot apply for any visa for 3 years once you are rejected for a visa, not sure if this is correct.

  2. Hello folks,

I am planning to apply for either Skilled Independent subclass 189 or 190. Using online calculators, I get 65 points. I'm not sure how the applications get picked up from pool (do all over 60 points get picked up?). Does anyone know if 65 points are enough to get an invitation to apply?

If they are enough, how long could it take for this much points to get an invitation?

    Thanks.
