  1. Not sure what is funny? For tax purposes if you only own 1 property regardless of whether you rent it out it is considered your primary residence, given that it was a lived in family home and not bought as a buy to let

No offence meant...just found it funny that it gets more confusing, my point being that if you let it out then it is not your residence,

I think you need a tax adviser to make sure you get the best deal..good luck

  2. I have been reading on HMRC about claiming Private Residence Relief and the rules of selling before 6th October 2016.

This is my only residence and i havev a UK personal tax threshold of £10,000 none of which will have been used in this financial year as the house has been empty since March. Our profit is going to be £89,000. How did you find a tax advisor?

You already stated that you rented it out for 5 years..Haha

  3. I have sold a flat in U.K in past 12 months, I gave the details to a UK tax adviser to do the right thing...

after claiming my allowance of 11,100 pounds ( poss more for u if in joint names ) I paid 18% ( more if you're a higher rate tax payer, of course, ) on the profit...difference between purchase and sale.....

also remember you have a tax free threshold in your favour in Uk.....!!

I would recomend a tax adviser to make sure you get it right...What is your profit..??? Good luck

  4. My Parents came to the UK in the fifties and still called Kerry "home"....up to 2003 anyway after 40/50 years, they would never have gone back to Eire to live though,

If you want to go back home, then do so, life is too short to be sad....I/we may do so in a few years time...it is only a plane ride away, good luck anyway..!!

  5. If you want to go to Oz, you will be taking a chance, but that is what life is all about...!!!

Do your best to make a success and make sure you've got your plane fare to come home if you need to,

It will be a life experience and character building whatever happens

    Good luck with your adventure

  6. Hi all anyone any experience of Point Cook. Is it a nice place to live. We are looking online at the Area just now and had a look on here but not much information on what the area is like i.e. Transport Links, Shopping and what the suburb is actually like ??

Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

a nice area, new builds all over, carefully laid out streets and greenspace, all too new for some though, a nice shopping centre,

an area ideal for nice families, the station is a bit away from Point Cook, not too walkable from most of the dwellings...!!!

a fast road into town, compared to the burbs of UK big towns, it is very nice and certainly value for money and time,

we are looking to buy somewhere down that way, may have to go to Werribbee to be near a station though...good luck

  7. I have lived and driven in SA, QLD, NSW....you cannot do a u turn at a traffic light unless there is a sign that says you can...

in Victoria, you CAN do a u turn unless there is a sign that says you can't.....!!!! :arghh:

wish you well, Adelaide is a very nice place, you must get out and about, good luck, may see you there,

  10. D'you know what? If you love him, do you really need to be "in love" with him? Is he a good husband? does he respect you and treat you well? is he a good father? If the answer to all of these is yes, then I think you would be throwing away something really special if you broke up the family. Stop thinking the grass is always greener elsewhere and start to really appreciate what you have. If it's really vital for you to get that "in love" feeling back then you are going to have to work at it - have a date night once a week where you get a babysitter in and go out for a meal together, where you really make an effort to have a conversation with each other (leave the phones at home!), talk to each other and listen to each other, talk about what's happening in the world, talk about your children, reminisce about things you've done as a couple and family and places you've been. Love, liking and respect is a much firmer basis for a long term relationship than hearts-and-flowers heart-pounding stomach-flipping lust, and you could easily fall in lust with someone who is a total failure at the relationship thing. Don't throw away something good.

    Very well said...!!

Write a list of ALL the good things about him...and be generous, then write the bad things...

    and count your blessings...good luck

  11. Hi I'm quite open minded about location just want to get out of the Uk , been looking at Queensland and NSW

Good luck, you probably know the web site podiatry-arena.com, government jobs are the holy grail of course but in rural locations,

have a look for jobs there, my wife and I are heading back over later in the year, she wants to resume her pod career there...

    Cheers

  12. Managed to get through to the Citizenship dept, told me that it takes between 6 to 9 months to process an application, they couldn't tell me whether they had received our docs but they probably had.

    Mike

We were anxious to get out citz last Sept 2013...3 months was the forecast, we had the ceremony on May 21 2014, extenuating circumstances can speed it up,

    Good luck, S

  13. Good Afternoon from a windy, cold UK! My wife and I are looking to start an application. Having read up and done quite a bit of research, I cannot work out whether to use an agent or to go it alone!

I am applying for a Skilled independent Visa 189. I'm a fully qualified Plumbing, Heating and Gas engineer.

We looked online and it said we can apply for around £5000. After speaking with an agent, we were quoted somewhere around £10,000!!

Any advice? Any agents that anyone can recommend?

    Thanks in advance! :)

Hi, we used Ian Ingle, have a look on this link..............he was great, highly recomended by us..cheers

  14. Hi, buying a property would be a great idea....you can then travel, rent it out and it will be there when you go back.

Coming to oz for a couple of months would be a great option too, it will cost you all your money, but a great trip,

    Best of luck anyway..

  15. Hi, when you say not Adelaide, not Brisbane, not Perth....there is not much else except Sydney..!! only joking but.....

Melbourne is great, we live in Altona, which is out of town and yet close enough, 10 km out of Melbourne is Country...!!

Places like Point cook or Werribee are quite popular with new ex pats

Geelong would be great if you can do the commute, It is a fair way out..!! the best thing is to head to Geelong and only commit to a 6 month rental and see how you go, you can always move on.

Do the right thing legally at all times( pay bills and rents on time etc) and get your references sorted and moving on will not be a problem......

I would say don't bother going anywhere like Wollongong as choices can be very limited

Anyway, look after your cash and don't throw it away too quick...enjoy your new adventure....
