  1. Hi all,

My daughter in law has been sponsored for the last two years in Perth as a mental health nurse on a 457 visa. Things have changed so much since my visa was sorted we’re  quite out of the loop as to how to sort PR.

Shes registered with AHPRA has a degree in nursing but has only been qualified 3 years in September.

We’ve looked through the points and new EOI info but are confused. Can someone point us in the right path for the easiest way to apply for PR. Hopefully without doing the IELTS ?

    thank you in advance

    Nic

  2. Hi guys,

Just after a bit of advice please

My husband and I have been in Perth for three years and my husband is working as a labourer. He is actually a painter and decorator with a CPC30611 Certificate III Painting and Decorating. He was self employed in the UK. It seems he can't work as a painter and decorator here without additional couses, i.e small business and estimating.

Does anyone have any experience of this, i would greatly appreciate any advice

  3. The company will need to appoint a registered migration agent as it isn't just a case of them deciding they want to sponsor. There are lots of hoops to jump through. These include advertising the position and proving there were no suitable candidates. They will also need to establish things like the training bench mark - there is a requirement that they can prove they have spent a certain minimum amount on training.

But, even if they achieve that, there is a risk that immi knock back the sponsorship on the basis that getting a very junior trades person shouldn't require sponsorship and they are being VERY picky at the moment.

    Thanks for your input.

I think it's definitely a long shot but do you know if he would need to do a skills assessment?

    Cheers

  4. If the sponsoring company have never sponsored before then they are in for a shock too. Lots of hoops to jump through to meet the requirements to be a small business sponsor.

Pretty sure he'll need a skills assessment. Whether he'll pass it is another matter.

He qualified over two years ago, but he's been on a WHV for the past 2 years, so he's unlikely to have the required experience. (Depends what "over 2 years ago" means. 3,4,5,6 years ago?)

Best to contact one of the agents who post on the forums here.

    Thanks for your reply Suzukiscottie

I think you're right. Prob more hassle than it's worth. It's just been a really difficult process.

He qualified 6months before his WHV so has a years experience in oz. And Only 6 in the UK.

Heres hoping someone has some good advice. He really doesn't want to go home.

    cheers

  5. First of all they need to look into whether they're eligible to sponsor anyone. Then they need to check whether he's eligible to be sponsored (does he have the required qualifications? Does he have the required experience?) Then they need to prove they can't find any local applicants (which means advertising and proving they get no suitable applicants).

I'd say they need to engage a MARA registered agent to guide them through the process, for a small company it's a complicated process to manage on top of their daily workload.

    Thanks for your reply Marisa,

We've spoken to and been let down by agents unfortunately that's why I wanted some advice from the amazing people on here.

He qualified in the UK over two years ago. His apprenticeship is formwork joinery. His most recent agent tells us he needs a skills assessment but I've also read he doesn't.

Things are so confusing and we're just not happy to give even more money to agents.

    Cheers

  6. Hi

I was wondering if anyone could help on a sponsorship query i have.

My son is a forming joiner, has completed two years of a working holiday visa and is currently on a student visa due to finish in October.

He may have the opportunity to be sponsored.

    The questions we have are,

His employer has never sponsored anyone before, it is a small firm of approx 5 other workers, how difficult is it?

Can he be sponsored now or does he have to complete his student visa first?

    and

Does he need a skills assessment?

    Thank you in advance

    nik

  7. Could he establish that he has been living with his girlfriend for 12 months? If so, as a nurse, she is likely to qualify for an independent visa and he could go on her visa.

    Hi, thanks for your reply

    Thats their other option.

His girlfriend has been oz on a WHV since Sept this year but they have both been backwards and forward since Jan and I think the de facto rule has changed about having to live together. Still If he was able to stay on a student visa that period of living together would be longer.

Like I said we need the fast fix desperate I know but that's where we are :wubclub:

    Any ideas?

    thanks again

    Nik

  8. The thing that occurs to me is that it's a very temporary solution. If he's studying, then he can't build up any work experience in his current profession, so he will be even worse off by the end of his course - and he can't study forever.

I notice you had an older thread asking for possible solutions for him - did you ever work out what his chances were of getting PR?

    Hi,

You're right it is a temporary solution and thats what we need for the time being. He is working with a migration agent and looking into the chances of doing his carpentry skills assessment with vettases. He has the experience he is a forming joiner. Really just need a quick fix to bridge a gap to extend his stay until he can sort other options he has open to him.

Im happy to receive other ideas if you have any.

    Cheers

    Nik

  9. It's the course he needs to choose, then the visa will be self evident. Is he planning on going to Uni and retraining or consolidating his skills maybe at TAFE. He may still have to face leaving once he's done with the study though.

    Cheers Quoll,

its a temporary fix i know but thats what we need at the moment. He's a forming joiner but his girlfriend is a mental health nurse and they are looking into sponsorship for her too. So we are looking at the cheapest option really that will extend his visa. Any course and the best length of stay.

We've spent the best part of this year doing IELTS and preparing for his skills assessment Just don't want him to have to leave.

    Cheers

  10. Hi All,

Was looking for some advice regarding a student visa for my son.

Unfortunately his skills assessment may fall through for his PR application therefore we are looking for the best student visa.

Focusing on Both price and length of stay and wondered if anyone had any ideas or experience of this. He needs this to be processed before Feb when his second WHV ends.

    He is in construction

    Cheers guys

  11. Hi there,

can anyone tell me how long after a working holiday visa can I apply for a visitor visa.

My son needs to leave following his working holiday visa next week, he is in the middle of applying for sponsorship but this is looking less promising so we are hoping he can return asap and investigate other opportunities onshore. We are wondering how long he would need to be out of the country before applying for a visitor visa to be able to do this.

    Many thanks

    nik

  12. Hi Adam,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I know nurses can come over newly qualified so I'm hopeful and have my fingers tightly crossed. Go Matilda sorted our PR visas so I think we'll contact them.

    many thanks again

    nik

    Thanks for that,

There seems so many hoops to jump through, both my husband and I are in Perth at the moment, I'm a nurse but as my son was not classed as a dependent when we applied we couldn't include him on our PR. Maybe if sponsorship isn't a route we can use he'll have to do regional work then apply for his second WHV he'd be two yrs post qualifying then.

    thanks again

    nik

  13. Hi all,

My son is 24 and currently living in Perth on a working holiday visa. He is a formworker (joiner). He has been with his current employer in Perth for 4months and his employer has agreed to look into sponsorship for him.

He has only been qualified in his trade for 1 year. My question is

Can he be sponsored ? And if so

How does he go about it?

    Thanks in advance

    Nik :wubclub:

  14. Hi all,

I have a query and wondered if anyone could help. I'm a nurse in perth with permanent residency and my son (who had no interest in Oz) has joined us on a WHV. I no he needs to do regional work for his second year but ideally He would like to stay here permanently without the looming threat of having to leave. Can I sponsor him? Or does anyone have any ideas of how to sort his residency ? He's a newly qualified forming joiner if that helps x

    cheers Nik :wubclub:

  15. Hi Nik,

It's fairly self explanatory on the website, but that doesn't necessarily make it easy - if it were easy we wouldn't be in business ;) . We can assist you if you like - we've dealt with so many unusual scenarios over the years that we've learnt there are many ways to get the necessary docs together. In terms of time taken, allow 3 weeks plus postage time from Canberra. You've left yourself a reasonable amount of time to get it sorted, so there's no need to be too stressed about the import approval. But get on to it now, just in case DIT ask you for further evidence (which obviously delays the process).

    Hi Ironchef,

Really appreciate your advise and am trying to sort it myself, like you said it should be fairly straight forward:no: I tried the online assessment and failed miserably so I've emailed the application and documents had the confirmation that its been received but cant find how to make the fee payment apparently theres a secure service but i cant find it.

    can you please assist again

  16. Hi all,

im in a little panic. Our shippers come in two weeks to put our belongings in storage for two months. I am about to apply to ship our car and which we will be delivering to the shippers in October and I'm struggling a little with the new on line documents and what they want.

Has anyone got any advice please on what info they want and how long it takes. I think my heads just muddled with everything else

    thanks in aadvance

    Nik x

  17. Dear Ironchef,

We have decided to bite the bullet and move to Perth in May 2012 on PR visa. We own a very reliable, 52 plate, Mitshubsi Shogun Sport, TD 2.5, Animal, 70,000miles. My query along with everyone esle's is, would it be worth taking it with us. We have limited funds (as i'm sure does everyone esle) but its a workhorse and we are worried to be without it. Also, how much would it cost to move it etc.....

    Cheers in advance

    Nic
