  1. I am a midwife (over 50)here in Oz on a 457 visa. My recent application for PR has been refused, because Australia wants a "young skilled workforce", despite the fact that there is a nursing shortage of between 80,000 and 147,000.

We have both our children here and are therefore considering applying for a Contributory Parent Sponsored visa(or going home)

However my son wont be here as PR for 2 years until May 2013.

Does anyone know if Imm would accept an application before that date, also what is the wait for this visa now.

Pretty disgusted at my treatment my Immigration, they don't deserve my skills.

    Would appreciate any feedback.

    Thank You

  2. Hi all

Just thought I would let you know that after a long tiring approx 7 weeks, we received our permits for our Jeep/Car and 3 Quads. OMG what a process...I have to say the Visa process wasn't half as stressful (maybe it helped that we had an agent for our Visa but still...).

Anyway, its done now so we just have to wait for them to arrive in the post. Wondering if anyone can advise that because we don't have our Permits in our hands, does this mean that we can't ship them as our shipping company is coming in on the 20th June so do we have to wait for our permits to arrive or will our reference numbers we received off the Canberra office do????

Anyone need any advice please let me know as there are 2 different forms for cars and quads and a lot of late nights scanning and scanning and scanning and scanning and then emailing and then of course for them to come back and say they can't read our attachments and then having to rescan and rescan and rescan again in their format!!!:arghh:

But happy days, its done and again if I can help in anyway, just let me know.

    Hi,

We are going over on Parent Sponsored Visa and intend bringing out 2 cars. A Merc and an XTrail. Am shocked at the amt of paperwork involved. Am thinking now is it worth it.

Not moving for about 18 months, waiting to lodge our visa as we don't meet the criteria yet. I think we'll start now to get the ball rolling with the cars.

The thing is WHERE DO YOU START?????????

  3. Best advice to get started is to read Booklet No 3 on the diac website available via http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/booklets/books3.htm :confused:It covers most things but as most will tell you on this site it is not all set in tablets of stone. Good luck and keep a good stock of wine in as we all find it helps ease the stress.:swoon:

Thank you for that onfo. Yes I agree, sometimes it seems like a good idea to get by in an alcoholic haze!!

  4. Hi

The sponsor normally needs to be deemed as 'settled'. This is more a state, rather than a period of time, although the form states normally two years. However, having said this, they look at things such as whether the sponsor owns property, has a car, steady job, children in school etc. I do know of someone on here who applied after her daughter had been a permanent resident for about 11 months, but she was able to prove she was heavily involved with the community (I think she was a guide leader).

Just a thought: I presume you pass the Balance of Family Test?

Thank you for that. Yes our other son has been in Oz for past 2 and half years. He has a temporary self sponsored regional visa and will apply for PR at the earliest opportunity. That is our entire family in Oz.

  5. Hi if you come over on a visitor visa originally and are then granted a bridging visa while you wait for the parent visa to be granted the bridging visa will have the same conditions as the visitor visa, which means you will not be able to work.

You can only apply onshore for the aged parent visa, and one of you will need to be over 65. I am not sure how long this visa is taking to process. Otherwise it would be the normal parent visa 103, which is currently taking around 20 years, I understand.

WE are in our mid 50's so aged parent doesn't apply. We need the Contributory Parent Permanent Visa. Unfortunately it will cost approx 70,000 euro. It's the quickest way to get there, What I don't know is how long your sponsor needs to be there before you can lodge. My son with the PR visa has only just gone to Oz. We are desperate to get going!! MKF

  6. Have just today got back from holiday to find an e-mail telling us we have a case officer and asking for medicals etc, etc, within 28days from the 5th of May,this was just 7 months after our acknowledged application so has come totally out of the blue we will have to ask for an extention of time (are these usually granted) because with so few panel doctors we are probably going to have to wait for an appointment.7months I still cant believe it.

    Cheers.

    Mike.

HI, Congratulations. Can I ask how long did you have to wait before you could lodge your visa. In other words how long was your sponsor there and deemed "settled" before you application was accepted.

About to embark on all this, but our son with the PR has only just arrived in OZ, but we want to get there asap!

    Regards

  7. Sorry I forgot to say, and this is something I was advised to do. Should your parents apply for a visa onshore - while on a visit/holiday for instance -they will be allowed to spend the long wait here in Australia with you.

    Hi,

Do you know if they are allowed to work, even on a 20 hr week basis, while waiting for their visa in Oz.

As parents trying to get there via the fastest route, we are looking for any loopholes. We could not afford to live there without working.

    Any info would be great!

  8. Hi MKF

I think most people here can empathise with you, it made us feel quite lost when all our grandchildren were whisked away down under. The annual visit is just not enough!

You said that all your family are here now, does that mean you have other children besides your son who just left? If so, how long have they been here? You will have read other threads that say you have to wait until the sponsoring child is 'settled' which is usually deemed to be 2 years. Others have done it in less time than that but you have to give evidence of the family being well settled. If you have other children here it would make sense for them to be your sponsor. Our situation was that our eldest daughter had been here for about 4 years, our middle daughter was here on a student visa so she didn't count in the balance of family test. We had to wait for our youngest daughter to emigrate (that then tipped the balance of family test in our favour) before we could apply using our eldest as our sponsor.

Incidentally, it is very straightforward to apply for the visa yourself without the aid of an agent. You just have to be very methodical and double check everything and if you get stuck just ask away on here. Even if you use an agent you will find that you have to do most of the hard work yourself anyway. I'm not against migration agents, far from it, but when it's straightforward save yourself a bit of dosh.

    Good luck

    Cath

    Hi Cath,

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me. To clarify; my other son has been in Oz for over 2 years. Initially on a holiday visa, he is now just about to get a Regional self sponsored visa so he cannot act as sponsor. It is my other son who has just arrived that has the PR visa.

We hadn't given any thought to applying without the help of a migration agent. I would be terrified of making a blunder-it is just so important to get it right. Hopefully we won't have to wait 2 years before they will accept our lodgement. I wonder about the fact that I am a nurse with Oz registration, would that be taken into account?

I need to do a bit of homework before launching into this.

    Wish us luck!!!!

    Regards

  9. Hi,

I havn't been on for a while. My son and his family have just left for Melbourne on a PR visa. All our family there now. So we are feeling lost. Want to get out of this country asap.

I have been told by a migration agent that we can lodge our PS visa in 6 mts. That is not what I am reading on this thread.

Can anyone enlighten me. Also once you lodge can you work limited hours on a long term tourist visa.

Good luck to all who are on the way to OZ.

  10. Our Aussie born granddaughter had to have a heart transplant at 7mths of age, and since our daughter is our only child and she and her other half have no other family in Australia, we thought our circumstances might get a sympathetic hearing from Immigration. Our application was supported by letters from the Royal Children's Hospital (Melbourne), Cardiologist, Social Services, our daughter's local vicar but all to no avail - even though we were paying they would not advance our application in any way! We now have our CO so things are up and running but it has been a very frustrating 14 months waiting - like everyone else you feel like you are in limbo and cannot get on with anything. The Immigration Department is very rigid with the rules and the only person who can overturn them is the Minister. G

    Hi David and Gill,

I didn't know you had replied to my message- I got no alert.

I hope your granddaughter is doing well. We have 3 grandchildren so I can appreciate how distressing that must have been. I'm amazed you were not given any priority under the circumstances.

Indeed it is very frustrating, I'm not looking forward to the wait. You must be greatly relieved you now have a case officer.

    The very best of luck

  11. Hi MFK

In order to sponsor you your son will need to prove that he is 'settled'. The guidance says this is normally around 2 years, but there is a lady on another thread who applied after her daughter had been in Oz for only 11 months. They look at whether your son owns property, has a permanent job, car and is part of the community etc. The current waiting time for a case officer has recently shortened from around 15 months to 12 months.

    Hi Linday,

That seems like a terribly long time to wait for a case officer. I wonder can you make a case for yourself, do they take any other conditions into consideration. eg We will have 100% of our family in Oz. I have Australian nursing registration and intend to work when I get there, and we are handing over a very large sum of money to get there!

  12. :twitcy:Hi, So nice to see somebody else from Ireland going to OZ on a Parent Sponsored Visa.. We have one son living in Alice on a temp self sponsored regional visa. Our other son and family have PR and are moving in a few weeks to Melbourne. That will be our entire family in OZ.

We also plan to go on CPV, but to my knowledge we have to wait until my son has been there for 6 months before we can lodge.

Do you know how long it takes from lodgment until a case officer is assigned. We just want to get there ASAP. Is there any way of speeding it up? My husband and I are in our mid 50's.

It is indeed very expensive, but will be worth it.

If anybody has any tips please let us know. We just want out of here!!!

    Cheers

  13. Hi

Our application was only acknowledged on 3rd September 2010 so not for a while yet unfortunatly

However we are going in April for 8 weeks, my daughter is expecting our third grandchild and they are having the christening while we are there so really looking forward to it :jiggy:it will also give us some time to do a bit of a rekki of areas close to them where we might like to live/work etc.

They are on the Southern Gold Coast about 1 hour drive from Brisbane, where are you heading?

    Phoebe

Heading somewhere in Victoria-depends where my son gets work. Congratulations on your expected new arrival.

    Exciting times for you.

Compared to us your plans are well advanced!!

    Best of luck

  14. Hi there MKF,

Just over a month to go and OH still anxious that we won't have enough money, exchange rate awful etc etc. It is such an enormous thing to do but soooooo brave. There are those that talk and talk about and there are those that do. We lodged our application on June 2nd 2009 got a CO Oct 2010 and permanent visa granted 9th December after asking for a month's extension (exchange rate) We had an emigration agent based in Perth and it was she who advised us to go straight for the permanent visa. Our girls are beside themselves with excitement and our eldest daughter is expecting our first grandchild at the end of June so there is so much to look forward to.

"LEAP and the net will appear!"

www.gainwave.co.ukwill show you timescales - look for Sandch on the thread and he can put you in the waiting room once you have lodged your application.:fish: Which part of Aus do you want to settle in?

    Hi,

Thank you for your informative reply. We need some positivity!! WE also have decided to go with permanent visa and suffer the cost. We expect to be in Melbourne. WE have one son in Alice Springs, his visa is temporary so no good to us in terms of him being our sponsor. My other son and his family have just got their permanent visa and will be going in June. We then have to wait 6 mts approx until they are "settled" before we can lodge. We may go on an extended holiday visa while we are waiting.

Meanwhile we can get on with the de- clutter etc. Congratulations on your expected new

arrival. It is indeed very exciting.

Best Wishes and good luck in your new home in OZ

  15. Hello and Welcome MKF,

It is a life changing decision but the best one you could make and is there any other choice than to be with all of your lovely family. I also have 100% family in Perth and have just got my visa and moving in Feb. Of course you will get the colly wobbles but be positive and brave. You will be surprised at how many people say they envy you

Great to hear somebody else in the same boat. I only saw your reply today. The best of luck with your move. Yes you are right, it is amazing how many people are envious, particularly my work colleagues.

Can I ask if you have a temporary or permanent visa, and how long did it take after you lodged before it was granted.

    Regards

  16. I know that B.E. has their parent visa thread......why dont we have one?

All parent visa applicants.....here is your own thread in order to ask questions, chat, moan and groan....whatever you wish!

Good Luck to you all and looking fwd to hearing from you x

Hi, Glad to join in. We are just about to start the process of applying for CPV at a total cost of $95,165. We will have all our family living in Oz by the middle of this year, so don't have any choice really but to go ourselves. I am a nurse(with Aus registration) so hopefully will get work when I get there to pay some of this back. Very hard to get sponsorship at my age (56).

If there are any other parents in the same position , we would love to hear from you. This is such a life changing decision.
