  1. Hi all Thanks so much for the responses and the link to the other post. That was very helpful and yes, it's all the same as my situation and it doesn't look like I qualify! Cheers Lou
  2. Hi All, I was just wondering for any advice on this matter. I tried calling immigration but was put on hold for a couple of days! So here's my sticky predicament! I'm working here in Perth on a 457 visa and have been for over 3 years. I'm currently 14 weeks pregnant and my partner is Australian. I know that on the 457 visa, you are not entitled to any paid parental leave and therefore, I want to swap to a de facto visa. I more than pass all the requirements (living together for 2 years, bank accounts etc and have all my police checks etc) . However, I can't have the xray due to pregnancy so I know the de facto visa won't be fully processed until the baby is born in June 2014. My current 457 runs out in April 2014. Therefore, do you think it's worth me putting it in all the documents now and then immigration would put me on a bridging visa until it's processed and my 457 runs out? Also, does anyone know if you can claim Paid parental leave on a de facto bridging visa (this is the situation I think I'll be in when the baby is born) or if I can put in for paid parental leave after the baby is born, when I have my xray and my de facto visa is processed? I understand all this baby bonus is scrapped so my Australian partner can't get anything and with me getting nothing in the current situation it's scary and very depressing!!!! I hope I've explained properly! Thank you for reading and any advice is really appreciated as I just don't know anyone else in this sort of situation!!!! Cheers everyone! Lou
  3. Hi I didnt know there were many types to be honest. Just permanent residency?!
  4. Hi All I was wandering if you could help with a confused girl here! I've been working in Perth on a 457 visa since April 2010. In December 2011, I then transferred my 457 visa to a new company. I've been told that after two years of being on the 457 visa, I can look at applying for permanent residency which I want to do with LAFHA finishing in June anyway and having that security etc. As I've only been with my new employer Dec 11, they will not support my PR application yet (only after 12months of being with that company). My question is, can I do this on my own? And if so, what do I do? Do I find an agent to help and when can I start the process? When I have completed 2 years exactly which will be in April 2012? Hope this makes sense and any answers would be much appreciated. Cheers Lou
