  1. Hello, I’m in the UK with family in West Australia. My daughter has just been telling me about the gammon problem, as I told her I am boiling a gammon joint at the moment. Years ago, when gammon joints were really salty, we used to soak them overnight, then bring them to the boil next day in fresh water, throw away the water when it came to the boil, then restart with any added bay leaves etc. You’ve probably all tried this, but I thought I’d throw it into the mixing pot. Good luck!

Many thanks. I just wasn't sure about the situation, and would rather be prepared, after all, forewarned is for-armed, as they say. After all, who would pick up the pieces if it all went pear-shaped? Mum, as usual! So once again, many thanks.

It's a 176 state sponsored permanent resident visa, so I think maybe I had the wrong idea? Typical Mum I'm afraid, worrying unnecessarily - again. So, then, does that mean they are ok, and not in danger of being shipped back to UK? I haven't a clue about visas and suchlike. However, I was always under the impression that they were indeed sponsored by her brother. Is a state sponsored etc. different?

My daughter and her family emigrated to Australia towards the end of last year. They were sponsored by her brother, but unfortunately, due to circumstances within his wife's family, he and his wife are having to return to the UK. What happens now regarding the sponsorship situation for my daughter and her family? They are all really settled, have good jobs, with 1 child at University in Perth, 1 working and 1 at school. I am quite worried about this, so I'm hoping someone out there can inform me.
  5. Many thanks for the info. I thought insurance would be available for longer than 3 months, but it's always good to have these things confirmed. And thank you also for mentioning Medicare.
  6. A neighbour is going to be visiting Australia for 6 months. Does the Reciprocal Agreement cover her for that time? Also, she believes that she cannot get insurance cover for a 6 months stay, only for 3 months. Is this the case? Our daughter and her family will be emigrating soon, so this may well apply to us.
