<p>Internal checks are the checks done by DIAC within. Including checking the integrity of your documents and claims etc. My case officer informed me that all internal checks were completed on my application and they were waiting to hear anything on my external checks.</p>

<p>External checks are the checks done by external agencies, mostly on HR (high risk) country applicants to check their character. They are intelligence checks and done by intelligence agencies. Since intelligence agencies are external to DIAC they are called external checks.</p>

<p>Providing police clearance would be sufficient if the police in your country were efficient which they aren't in most HR countries. So they don't trust the police character certificate and do the checks their self but still require PCC as a standard procedure.</p>
