  1. The only thing I can say to you really is very soon she will be thousands of miles away . Keep your chin up and just smile and nod smile and nod. Worked for me.

We have our citizenship ceremony this week and my MIL has already started the "so you'll be coming 'home' now" conversations so just get used to it and live your own lives/do what is right for you as a family unit.

  2. It is quite difficult to secure work when your not there in person to attend interviews etc but not impossible.

As for which State, that will depend on your occupation and a touch of luck, you would probably be best to look at websites like Seek.com to get an idea of job availability in varying States, the other option is to contact company's direct (again best done in person).

Attire will again depend on your trade.

    Cal x

Proof read any covering letters and your CV (often called a resume here) and know the difference between your and you're; company's and companies.

Sorry, Cal, but I see so many applications that have simple errors like those and quite often have come from recruitment agencies.

  3. So Australian landlords don't like Pommies and the shops don't sell digestive biscuits.

Maybe you should rethink your plans and stay at home before you become another of those "back in England" types that really grate on everyone's nerves.

Giving everyone a fair go is part of the culture as is the fit in or feck off mentality.

  4. 457 is an employer sponsored, temporary visa that does not give you permanent residency I.e. No job, you go home.

Maybe share some more info (new thread) around your partner, how long you have been together and you will get a better idea of options. Some really good migration agents are on here and will give some high level advice to get you thinking about your next steps.

  5. Guy at the dancing school my daughter goes to owns gocampingwa in Balcatta. Not sure what they have on display but he seems like a decent guy and business is family run so may be more helpful than the big chains mentioned above.

edit: the guy's daughter dances too, just in case that wasn't clear

  6. Hi Kate try ausure, they are brokers across Australia. They can access cover for all sorts of oddball things so worth a try.

Being a broker, there is commission on all the business they place so won't be the cheapest but they can tap into underwriters that a Google search won't necessarily bring up.

Good luck, I hope you get that cover and holiday.

  7. I was starting to feel unloved ...

    Best wishes.

Just saving the best for last, maybe!

I was another DIY submission. Only minor hiccup I had was discovering I had to do IELTS (English test) as my occupation was on what was called the Critical Skills List at the time later on in the process.

An agent could probably have picked that up for me sooner but it didn't change the outcome and saved me a lot of money doing it myself.

  8. True......but mine was Alien destruction not abduction

My version could still have a happy ending though, you've kind of closed your story line off, short of a time shift/parallel universe or something of that nature.

No actual proof of Klingon or Romulan existence outside of the movie/TV arena but then not much proof of anything in this thread either.

  9. Because having been in aviation for over 40 years and having over 22,000 flying hours (approx 13,500 on Boeings) the loss of a an aeroplane is somewhat distressing especially when NO ONE knows what actually has happened.

    Yes, wild speculation annoys me.

I was aware of your aviation background but as wild speculation is the (unfortunate) nature of this thread I would have thought you would have chosen to avoid it by now rather than keep reading the latest PIO conspiracy theories.

  10. It would have been based on data at some point in time, but there are professional companies (name escapes me at the moment) who publish indices for use for expats going to other countries around the world.

If your hubby's company is a decent size then I would imagine they will use something like this (or data from a recruitment agency) to determine what he is worth in salary terms.
