  1. WOW you have been busy.

We arrived in Gold Coast 6 wks ago and its tough we have a car and have rented a house, I have managed to get a job as a housekeeper in a resort, but Hubby is having problems getting work, dont know how many C V's he has put out but no response so far.

My youngest started school last week she is 14 and seems to be liking it, time will tell !

My eldest is 17 and also starting to look for work.

Fingers crossed things change soon, we are where we want to be with the family and new Grand Daughter.

Good luck to you and your family in OZ

Oh the joy of having the chance to go and hope it all works. Now the bump back to earth, just the house to sell. Any one want to buy a house in Rotherham, VERY close to a shopping mall????

Best wishes to all still waiting

Congratulation hope everything works out for you.

  3. Well at last we have our visa! Go Matilda phoned yesterday to tell us the good news. We sent our passports off straight away to get them authorised. Doree Bonner are here at the moment packing everything into the container (be really glad to see the back of all the boxes). We complete on the house sale next Friday and fly to the Gold Coast next Sunday!

    I can't believe we're almost there.

Can anyone advise me, would it be better to leave the bulk of my house money here till hopefully, the exchange rate picks up, or move it all stragiht across to the Commonwealth bank where I believe the interest rate is around 6 per cent.

    Thank you

    Cheers Cakey

Congratulations thats great news, we arrived in the Gold Coast last Wednesday, still trying to find a house to rent, seen a few places so fingers crossed it wont be long till we get out from under my Son's feet.

Good luck to you, maybe we could meet up when you are settled.

  4. We thats us nearly ready to go, we travel to London on the train tomorrow, stay with my uncle overnight, dog to kennels ready for her flight that night, then we are off to the airport to catch our flight.

Thank you so much for all the help and support we have received on this site, it was a god send when I found it.

Will keep in touch, good luck to all those who are just about to go or still waiting, never give up.

  5. After a diabolical week (won't go into details) we had an offer on our house this morning. I was beginning to think it would take ages and that we'd need to drop the price once again but the young couple who viewed last night loved it and they have a first time buyer for their property.

Still a way to go but looks like we are another step closer to our dream and the panic (sorry, fun) begins in earnest!

Good luck on the house sale hope it all goes though ok.

  6. In the unlikely event we sell our house for more than we expected we may be able to go Business Class but I'd rather put the money towards a new car/things for our new home. Its only for 24 hours after all and after all the ups and downs so far we can put up with a bit of discomfort!

At least we just got confirmation from our agent -WE NOW HAVE OUR VISAS!!!!!!!!:chatterbox:

    CONGRATULATIONS

Great news so happy for you guys, good luck with the house sale.

  7. Hi everyone,

We are sitting in the Business Class Lounge (Emirates) at Gatwick on our way to Australia! The goodbyes have been very hard and we are a bit discombobulated at the moment but it will be well worth it all when we arrive at our Daughter's house on Tuesday morning. Will keep you all informed of how we get on, but for now, those who are waiting for the CPV - keep the faith, it will arrive eventually! (It actually feels a bit unreal at the moment, so I think that calls for another glass of champagne!)

    Best wishes to everyone

    David& Gill

Hi there best of luck to you both, we will be in the same boat in 3 wks time but not business class unfortunately.

Hope you have a nice flight.

  8. For those of you who were interested in our experience with John Mason they have just finished packing all of our stuff. Strange to see all your wordly goods disappearing up the road on the back of a lorry.

John Mason seem to contract out the packing and so the packers don't work directly for them. However, they were very efficient and thorough and very considerate. They packed everything up very thoroughly and quickly in just over a day, although we didn't have a complete house full. Just have to wait and see what happens at the other end.

Meeting my son for dinner this evening to say goodbye so that will be a bit emotional, and flying out to Perth tomorrow night. Still can't believe it's happening. Seems a bit unreal still.

    Good luck, safe journey.

    Congratulations, wont be long now.

    Good luck with the move.

  10. Perth here we come! We exchanged contracts on our house yesterday and sold our car. John Mason are coming in on Tuesday and Wednesday to pack up. We complete and fly off to Perth on the 2nd. I can't believe how incredibly lucky we have been with timing and how it is all coming together now at last.

All I can say is it's been an incredibly emotional and stressful roller coaster, but so worth it in the end. Greatly helped by all the information and support on here, so thanks everyone and hang on in there and good luck to all those who are so close and all those still waiting.

Good luck with the move, hope it all goes well and enjoy your new life in OZ.

Crown are coming to pack our stuff on Tuesday, then we leave on the 4th July, the dog also leaves in the 4th but on a different flight as she has to go to Sydney before joining us on the Gold Coast.

  11. Hi Steve,

Could you please award the rare Red Star please, we received notification today from our Case Officer that our CPV 143 visa was granted today.

It has certainly been an interesting journey, all went well until the medicals where we hit a bit of a hurdle. My wife failed due to faint traces of blood in here urine sample, we were told to see our GP who in turn sent my wife to a consultant and for ultra scans of her kidneys.

This of course took time, so finally after two 28 day extensions from our very helpful case officer we received the all clear letter from the consultant though the letter went walk about in the Royal Mail somewhere, we finally got there with one day to spare on the second extension.

On receipt of the medicals in Sydney everything moved ahead very quickly with the request for the 2nd Vac on the 13th of May, we paid via London via a Visa Debit card on the 16th May. A tip send a copy of the 2nd VAC payment request with your mandate as it speeds up the process, I forgot to send ours though Eric at the London Australia house was exceptionally helpful.

I chose to pay via the Visa Debit card as it was far simpler than using a Credit card, the Credit card people were making waves when I asked to extend the credit limit on the card to £46,000.00, I fell out with them, I have always believed that as far as the bank is concerned I am the customer and I tell them what I want rather than them telling me, we do occasionally have words!! I do then tell them that Barclays is always next door!!

If you elect to pay via London you need to get a different payment mandate to the Perth one from as the London one is for £ and the Perth one is in AU$ the amount for the conversion is available on http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/990i/converter.htm the link on your Tracker page is perfect.

I would thank everyone on PIO for the assistance and encouragement that has made the journey a lot easier and with a bit of light hearted fun on the way, good luck to all those still waiting, it does pass ( In Hindsight always easy) very quickly.:biggrin::biggrin:

  12. Well, it's finally arrived...................................

    We've got our Visa!!

Daughter sent off Bankers Draft last Wednesday 11th, and we received email this morning from our CO. Sisters-in-Law coming today for a few days, so we'll open the bottle of bubbly when they arrive! Daughter is ecstatic - after all this time it's finally happened.

Good Luck to everyone else waiting. Best wishes Gill

    'Congratulations'

Great news, let the fun begin.... after the bubby of course !!!

  13. I would have thought that bottles of alcohol were a fire risk in a storage container.

Watched the 'Poms in Paradise' tv programme earlier and felt that the poms chosen were not very typical.

Have emailed AQIS just to see what they say!

Also watched the poms in paradise, it was good to show my family where we will be going in July, half an hour just seemed to pass to quickly, if they changed it to 4 hour long programmes instead of 8 half hour ones we would see them all before we left

  14. Hi Wilma

On the packing and moving front I am so jealous. We are so near but so far, just got back from doing medicals. On the booze, I do not think their is a problem if you pay the duty on it, which may be quite high, so making it uneconomic with the shipping, BUT what price sentiment, we have just popped a bottle of bubbly from our 25th wedding aniversary when we got the case officer. Hoping the Daughter will buy us another for our 40th in July and save it till we get there, soon????

On the feather bed ring customs in Aus. I had a similar uncovered question and they were brilliant and patient.

    Good luck

ps dont forget the time difference for office hours

Thank you for your reply, not too bothered about the booze, if we have to leave so be it.... dont like whisky anyway ha ha, bet hubby wont agree though!!.

The way things are going lately you might be in OZ for your 40th in July, hope you have a nice time where ever you are.

    Thanks Wilma

  15. Hi there

We have the packers coming on the 31st May ,we went for Crown.

Can anyone tell me if any of you guys have taken a feather bed with you, the label says it has sterile feather in it, also can you take alcohol in the container as we have a couple of bottles we got as wedding presents some 17 yrs ago

    Thanks

    Wima

  16. Visa grant letter received yesterday what a nice feeling to finally receive it. Getting removal quotes at the moment anyones advic3e on companies would be appreciated. House sale due to be finalised early june so keeping fingers crossed there. Then book flights and start our new life in Perth. Will be ready for a rest then I think.:wubclub: sylvia

Congratulatiuons in the Visa great news

    Wilma

  17. Congratulations to everyone with good news. Things are really hotting up now. Here's fingers crossed for DavidandGill so you can make the 6th June deadline. It's especially stressful when you already have a flight booked.

We can actually relax a little now as we had our visa grant letter this morning! So Steve if you are around can you update the tracker please? Such a relief as we can now fly on the 2nd June as planned.

We are hoping to exchange contracts on our house next week if all goes to plan - have got a surveyor coming in tomorrow so hope he doesn't find any nasties to put the kybosh on it! Got John Mason coming this afternoon to give us a quote. Just had St Rocco's charity round to take away some of our furniture which we don't want to ship. It's all go isn't it!

And to all those still waiting - hang on in there, you will get there eventually and the time does go a lot quicker than you think.

Congratulations on getting your visa, its a great feeling.

    Good luck with the move.

  18. Good Morning everyone,

We have received our 2nd Vac request this morning, so its all systems go now. Steve, if you are not already on your travels would you update the tracker please. Our daughter will be going to the Bank first thing tomorrow morning to draw the Bank Cheque and send it off so hopefully within a few more days we might just get our Visas!

As soon as they are confirmed we can exchange contracts and book the removers - we are aiming to fly out on 6th June so hoping everything will slot together to achieve this. Feeling a bit strange really, after all this time waiting for something to happen it's all happening very fast now and its beginning to take its toll, but can't wait to get back to Australia and be with our family.

Good Luck to everyone else on this journey.

    Gill

Great News wont be long now, we fly out to the Gold Coast on the 4th July, can't wait to go but not looking forward to all the goodbyes.

    Good luck
