  1. The reason for the quickness is the fact that in Scotland (where I live) there are very few jobs for midwives and I have been qualified for 3 years and still work casual shifts. As do many girls who I trained with and trained ahead/behind me. We just want to start our new life and for me to get on with the job I trained for. By no means do we think it is a cheap and easy way to get in to Australia. We have already started the PR process, but I prob wont even get my skills assessment back until Nov (16wk wait) then at the mo it is a 6-12 month wait for a visa, meanwhile I am being deskilled!!! Thanks x
  2. My OH is a control room operator for a company called scottish power. Basically he keeps an eye on all the machinery that produces the energy, ensuring is doesn't get too hot and the pressures not too high. So far he hasn't seen this type of job that isn't FIFO. I'm worried about the kids and the amount of time we spend with them. Is our situation manageable? Antonia x
  3. Thanks for the info. I was wondering if there was any energy industry nearby. I'm worried that with me working full time and my hubby doing fly in, fly out, the kids wont see us as much. Am sure people have had this situation themselves, how would it work? Also, what are the full time hours out there? Antonia x
  4. Hi everyone, I'm looking for a bit of advice from people in the know. I'm a midwife looking to move to Perth with my hubby and 2 (10&7) kids. An opportunity has come up for a sponsorship in Peel Health Campus in Mandurah. My hubby works in the energy industry and would probably have to do fly in, fly out! I had heard that people have had a few issues on the 457. We had initially started on the PR route and am waiting for my skills assessment at the mo, which is taking about 16 wks. So taking the sponsorship would mean we get out there quicker. I'm aware of the need to work full time and for that hospital for 2 years. Am just wondering what issues people have experienced on the 457, and anyone who have been in a similar situation to ours and how things have worked out. We also have friends in Tapping who we was planning to stay with, but this would mean a 1.5 hour commute? Thanks Antonia x
  5. Thanks guys for the advice. I would be interested to know the problems people are having on a 457! I am a bit unsure about going this way because the job that my OH does, means he will have to do fly in, fly out. With me working full time this isn't ideal. I'm a midwife and at the moment am waiting for my skills assessment, but just want to get out there asap!!! Anymore info would be really appreciated x
  6. Two fantastic opportunities have came up for myself and my family but would love to hear from anyone who has lived in either place. I am a midwife and may have the chance of sponsorship in both place, just looking for some insider info on either of the cities/town. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
  7. Thanks guys for the information. Yeah maya12 and four corners who were your mortgage lenders? Im not sure mine would be happy with us just changing to a buy to let mortgage without paying the fee.
  8. Hi, Am planning to move to Perth on a 457 in August. Not really wanting to sell the house with the current market conditions and to the fee to change to a buy to let mortgage with out lender is £1200. We need all the money we can to go over with. Was wondering if anyone has let out their house without informing their lender and changing the mortgage over. Any advice would be helpful Ta x
  9. Hi guys, Been reading everyone's helpful posts for a while now, thought it was about time I posted something myself!!! Have offered the chance to go to Perth on a 457 visa working as a midwife for an agency. Was just wondering if anyone has done the same thing and what it's like. Is agency work ok, what are the hours like and the pay? Any info would be helpful Ta. x
