  1. hi,

i have a query, we have been granted VE 175 (independent skilled) in june 2012. we have made our initial entry within stipulated period. In this June we are going back to australia. Our visa due to expire in June 2016, my question is, if we couldn't complete 2 year residency period what would happen? (out of 5 years, 2 years should be spend in australia), i believe, there would be 2 monthns short to complete 2 years. kindly reply

    estahapan.

  2. Hi,

you just land anywhere in Australia with ur visas and passports, on arrival at airport, emigration people will scan your passport and upload the information into their system and stamp on the passport as 'emigration arrived'-your visa is activated. no hassles no hurdles.do you have a visa sticker on ur passport? it would be better if u get it done or else take the visa grant letter along with u. no other document is required.

  3.

ok, this is copied and pasted directly from Yahoo online, but explains the concept more or less...... This was a practice that came from the pagans & was absorbed. It is a blood magic rite that supposedly would help protect the buildings where it was done. The spirit of the people so buried were supposedly trapped to that spot & would protect the building from being attacked on both the physical & metaphysical realms. In the pagan rite, usually someone strong in magic would be used toward the end of their lives because they would be able to use their magic for the protection of their people & it was considered a great honor. The Christians, when they took over the Celtic lands never understood the concept of the rite & used anyone & everyone that no one had any need for. One strong mage could protect a pagan creation for centuries. For the Christians it took, the records are correct, more than 1000 people to make the Tower of London seem secure enough to the people with the ability to feel these things. [h=3][/h]
hi all, The blood magic story was very much prevalent in several part of India till late 1940's. illiterate peasants believed that trapping some living creature or human would strengthen it and save the structure from natural calamities. it was only done for mega-structures like dams, bridges.. etc. Great grand father( an out cast, illiterate peasant) of one of my classmate was pushed down to a ditch (deep one, so that victim can't escape) and sealed with concrete at the time of constructing a dam across a rivulet funded by local civic body..! The unsuspecting peasant was lured to the site then pushed down to the ditch then within no time they filled concrete over him. when the filling reached his waist level supervisor asked him 'what do u feel'? (people believe that some sort of untoward incident occurs at the time of this alive burial) (the hapless victim surrenders to his destiny by then and speaks.) He said ' temple on fire' (temple of local deity). anyway that was true the local temple burned out, people say. the burnt remains of the temple was there when i was a child. it was renovated later. i have heard several similar stories like this. im not propagating superstition but, this thing used to occur in our society some 2 decades ago. still in some part people sacrifice cocks, goats or some other animal at the time of construction of mega-structures. BELIEVE IT OR NOT
  4. hi folks,

after a long gap im coming back to this thread. In feb we had a validation trip to Perth. from now on i gonna concentrate on Licencing process thats the reason why im back to this thread. expecting more licence related post from veterans of this thread.

    thank you all. :D

  5. hi James,

im very happy to read ur post, though it is after a long gap. after reading ur post i felt that ur roots are going deeply in oz soil. its a good idea to start a solar power based buisness as renewable energy is the promise of the future. wish u all success and early disposal of ur 175 application. since Electricians are in cat3 (new SOL) u may get a visa soon. as of now DIAC is proceessing Oct 2008 applications (new SOL).

    regards

  6. hi elec.guy,

i did my veta in March 2009 in Mumbai (positive out come).

please read this thread from the first page and check my previous posts(through my profile), u'll get suffient information about the vetassess. there are some enlighting postings by James and other sparkies.at present where do u live? in India or ozz? if you are in India i can give you more information about the assessment venue.

  7. thre may be some tricky qustions abt polyphase ckts

e.g. 200v 32 kw heater is connected in star and given 400 volts, what will be the power? power remains the same as two heaters come in series and voltage is doubled. the power remains same.

if voltage doubles in a resistive ckt what happaens to power?

if voltage halves in a resistive ckt what happens to power?

if power factoe lowers then what happens to curent?

    INDUCTANCE, IMPEDANCE,REACTANCE.

when 2 inductors are connected in series what will be the resultant?(it adds)

    disconnection and reconnection procedure.

u'll have to follow the sequence and explain him why u do it in that way.

DoL is quiet easy i think. contactors are of ELV (24Vac), probably.

if there is more than one ON and OFF buttons, just connect the ON buttons in parrallel and OFF button in series.

    good luck mate

  8. hi all,

i have applied for gsm 175 in 2009. will today's announcement effect my application?

Changes to the General Skilled Migration Program Annouced Today

    Posted: 07 Feb 2010 07:59 PM PST

Today, the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Senator Chris Evans, announced a number of changes to the General Skilled Migration program.

Let’s look at the key changes. We’ll cover these changes in more detail further on in this article.

    • Offshore General Skilled Migration Visa Applications made before the 1st September 2007 will be capped and then ceased.
    • The current Critical Skills List (CSL) will be revoked and will be replaced by a new Skilled Occupations List (SOL) effective from the middle of 2010.
    • The current Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL) will be revoked and replaced with the same (and more targeted) Skilled Occupations List.
    • The General Skilled Migration (GSM) Points Test will be reviewed to evaluate the effectiveness of the current test.
    • New priority processing arrangements will be introduced for certain skilled migration visas.

Quite a lot to take in huh?

    1. Offshore General Skilled Migration Visa Applications made before the 1st September 2007 will be capped and then ceased.

OK, first things first and for many applicants (around 20,000 in fact) it’s not good news. In changes aimed at making skilled migration more responsive to Australia’s needs, all general skilled migration applications lodged before September 1, 2007 (when English and work experience requirements were, in theory easier), will have their applications withdrawn and application fees totalling $14 million refunded.

The Australian Government see this as ‘ending the ongoing uncertainty’ for offshore General Skilled Migrants although for many I’m sure it is the news they were dreading the most even if it does mean that the Visa Application Charge (VAC) is refunded.

On a more positive note applicants who have had their Visa Application revoked can still apply for any of the current GSM visa subclasses although they should be mindful of the need to meet the current legislative requirements which have changed significantly since 2007.

    2. The current Critical Skills List (CSL) will be revoked and will be replaced by a new Skilled Occupations List (SOL) effective from the middle of 2010.

As part of today’s announcement, the government is looking to abolish the current list of Critical Skills, which contains 106 occupations.

For some time now the Australian Government has suggested that the CSL was always an interim measure whilst the Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL) review was being undertaken. For the first time however they’ve now set a target date of replacing the CSL with a new Skilled Occupations List which will become effective from the middle of 2010.

It is expected that the new SOL will be available for review by the 30th April 2010 with priority processing arrangements for applications with nominated occupations on the current CSL continuing until they are reviewed in Mid 2010.

    3. The current Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL) will be revoked and replaced with the same (and more targeted) Skilled Occupations List.

As with the CSL, today’s announcement will also see the removal of the current Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL). The revocation of the current MODL will not affect applicants sponsored by an Australian employer, nor will it affect applicants who, at the date of this announcement (8th February 2010)

    • hold a Skilled- Graduate (subclass 485) visa, or have a pending subclass 485 visa application and are yet to apply for a permanent or provisional General Skilled Migration (GSM visa), or
    • have a pending GSM visa application

It’s also worth noting that the new SOL will not apply to people applying for a Skilled-Graduate (subclass 485) visa who at 8th February 2010 hold a:

    • Vocational Education and Training (subclass 572) visa.
    • Higher Education Sector (subclass 573) visa
    • Postgraduate Research Sector (subclass 574) visa.

Having said that, these student visa holders will still be required to have an occupation on the new SOL to apply for a permanent GSM Visa.

    4. The General Skilled Migration (GSM) Points Test will be reviewed to evaluate the effectiveness of the current test.

The GSM Points Test Review will be undertaken in the first half of this year and a ‘discussion paper’ will be placed on the departments website (Department of Immigration & Citizenship) by the 12th February 2010 which will then be open for public comment until the 12th March 2010.

It is not know at this stage whether the government will decide to make changes to the GSM points test, however, at a guess we think that they will. it’s been suggested that the current point test can distort outcomes for a skilled migrant. One example used on the Governments own website was a comparison between an international student who studied hairdressing in Australia compared to an applicant who has a PHD in environmental science from Harvard University.

The hairdresser past the points test with no problems gaining 135 points whilst the scientist failed the test with only 100 points. Although 10 of the hairdressers extra points were due to the occupation being more in demand then scientists; the extra 25 came from a combination of the hairdressers being on the MODL and having 12 moths Australian work experience. All things that the Australian Government says do ‘not always lead to outcomes that are consistent with the objectives of the General Skilled Migration Program.

    5. New priority processing arrangements will be introduced for certain skilled migration visas.

The priority processing arrangements are designed to ensure that the Australian Economy gets the skills it needs now, rather than those of the visa applicants who applied first. If you are on the list then I’m sure you’ll love these changes..

The changes take effect from today and apply to applications lodged on or after this date. The changes also apply to applications that had been lodged previously with the department and have not been finalised.

The new priority processing arrangements will apply to the following Visas:

    • Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS)
    • Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS)
    • The General Skilled Migration (GSM) Visas listed below:
      • Skill Matching (subclass 134)
      • Skilled—Independent (subclass 136)
      • Skilled—State/Territory-nominated Independent (subclass 137)
      • Skilled—Australian-sponsored (subclass 138)
      • Skilled—Designated Area-sponsored (subclass 139)
      • Skilled—Independent (subclass 175)
      • Skilled—Independent (subclass 176)
      • Skilled—Regional Sponsored (subclass 475)
      • Skilled—Regional Sponsored (subclass 487)
      • Skilled—Independent Regional (subclass 495)
      • Skilled—Designated Area-sponsored (Provisional) (subclass 496)
      • Skilled—Graduate (subclass 497)
      • Skilled—Onshore Independent New Zealand Citizen (subclass 861)
      • Skilled—Onshore Australian-sponsored New Zealand Citizen (subclass 862)
      • Skilled—Onshore Designated Area-sponsored New Zealand Citizen (subclass 863)
      • Skilled—Independent Overseas Student (subclass 880)
      • Skilled—Australian-sponsored (subclass 881)
      • Skilled—Designated Area-sponsored Overseas
      • Student (subclass 882)
      • Skilled—Independent (subclass 885)
      • Skilled—Sponsored (subclass 886)

The following processing priorities (with highest priority listed first) apply:

    1. Applications from people who are employer sponsored under the ENS and the RSMS.
    2. Applications from people who are nominated by a state/territory government agency under a state migration plan agreed to by the minister.
    3. Applications from people who are nominated by a state/territory government agency and whose nominated occupation is on the Critical Skills List (CSL)
    4. Applications from people who are neither nominated nor sponsored in priority groups 1, 2 or 3, but whose nominated occupation is listed on the CSL.
    5. Applications from people who are nominated by a state/territory government agency whose nominated occupation is not listed on the CSL.
    6. (i) Applications from people whose occupations are listed on the Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL).(ii) Applications from people who are sponsored by family and whose nominated occupation is not listed on the CSL.
    7. All other applications are to be processed in the order in which they are received.
  9. hi all,

obtaining of electrical licence seems to me a herculian task. is it possible to get an ARTC with a mere vetassess ? some of the previous posts in this regard are rather confusing. hws the present situation in ozz for sparks?

    hi,

    one more problem,

when i submitted my visa application(175), in form 80 of my spouse i did some mistake, as per her passport it is lil diffrent. is it possble to make the correction when case officer takes up my case?

    any advice would be appreciated.

    thanks.

    esthapan.

  10. HI James and Graham, I would just like to point out that you only need a contractors licence if you intend to work self employed . If you intend to work for a firm then you do not need this particular licence, Regards Derren

  11. hi

can anybody say when would the DIAC starts processing 175 visa applications?

further to my previous posts..........i`m happy to to say i now have my liscence:biggrin:

went to peer tech ,adelaide to do the wiring rules course, passed, then off to the consumer affairs office in the city the same day for the liscence.

  12. hi jayesh,

about vetassess practical i explained you over the phone.

there will be a wiring involving two 2 way swictches and a lamp(stair case wiring) and a pwer plug and switch. if u don't have prac. experience, u need to practise it.

then a DoL circuit.the contactor(24v ac)and push bottons,'ll be fixed on a decolum sheet. u need to connect it with link wires.

then, dis-connect and connect test. there'll be dryer connected to supply and a lamp glowing.u have to switch off the dryer without interrupting the lamp(think as essential service which cannot be interupted.) select the appropriate MCB and switch it off(see the current rating)

written exam. all questions from electrical fundametals.viz. R,L,XL,XC and Z.

    ohms Law.

    tramsformation ratio, V2/V1=N2/N2=I1/I2.

earth connection is a must. be careful but not panic. dont make any accidents.do not injure yourself.the assesser will be watching u.

regarding IELTS the overall band is rised to 6.

    best of luck.

incase of any doubts plz call me.

    esthapan.

  13. i had applied for elctrician spl class, hoping i can get through with half money. but it was a fiasco.actually i have 17 yrs exp. in industrial elctrical/elecronic and hydrolic systems.but they rejected me with some willy-nilly reason. later i got through vetassess. if anybody planning to apply for electrician spl. class, plz think twice.

    esthapan.

  14. hi all,

This thread never dies, but plese don’t starve it to death.post whatever info u havekeep it live.Im back to forum after my vetassess test.my test was on 06th of Mar.’09 at Mumbai,India.the assessor was frm Batman.. TAFE.he was very friendly to all.other than electrician there were assessment for Airconditioning too.sparkies test ran for 2 days.there were more than 12 candidates.only six were allowed at a time.

The tasks were wiring 2X ckt. (he said mainly they look at your wiring),DoL starter assembling, disconnection and re-connection process, written exam(18 questions).

My assessment went on like this..

0800hrs-sign up-intoduction, assessor expained about the task to be compleated.the tasks were..

Installing aTwo way light point and power point on the wooden board, the dis.board was already installed and RCCB, MCB’s were already mounted on it.there were one main MCB of 80Amps, 2 RCCB’s of 40Amp’s each, three 10Amp’s single pole MCB’s and three 20 Amps single pole MCB’s, told us to select the apropriate protctive devices.(20 amps for power 10 Amp’s for lighting.)we were given HDPE pipes as conduit.we had to install according to the dimesions in the drawing.the earth conductor was left disconnected in the incoming DB(delibrately), so we had to connect it.we were given 2 and half hrs to cmplete the task.after completion he checked the power point with a Digital multi Meter.check was with respect to earth and Live.then between the Nutral and earth, then neutral to Live. I did it in 3 hrs. All tools were given including cordless dril cum screw driver.then he asked me to open the cover of the DB to check for the correct colour code of wires and earth termination.all were correct.

My advice is do not forget to connect the earth conductor in the incoming DB.

Then the discon.process.there was a lamp glowing and a 2000 W heater was running.i was told to switch off the heater’s MCB with out opening the DB cover and sans switching off the light.i found several 20Amps MCBs on the DB but i swthed off the right one at firt attempt. Then i ask for a MCB lock off device to lock the MCB.i was the only guy wo asked or a locking device because we dont use such a locking device in India.we lock it by inserting a metalic pin .promptly he brought a mcb locking device and locked it.then i diconnected the heater, checkd for any live in the diconnected conductor with respectd to earth availabale in the DB.then he asked me ho to check it with a DMM.i shown him the continuty and resistance of it by swithing on the equip. Then check the insulatin with megger note the readings if its ok re-connect it and remove the lock, switch on.

The DoL assembly with remote operation func.

Everything was assembled on a board like contactor, push bottons, aux contact..etc only i had to plugin the loops.all points were marked.so it was so easy for me.it took only 3 minutes to assemble.some guys struggled for hours to complete( not boasting).as im an idustrial sparkie it was easy for me.it was an 24 volts ac ckt.contactor was of 24 volts. So was the 3 phase induction motor.

    The Written exam.

There were 18 questions i could anwer all the 18 correctly.i remember a few as follows..

A 10 ohm and a 5 ohm resistors con. In parllell and given 9 volts what’ll be th current.

If th two inductors of 0.2379 XL and 0.2592 XL is in series what’ll be the effective XL?

If voltage doubles in a resistive ckt what happens to Power?

If the voltage reduced to half in a resistive ckt what happens to Power?

Three 32kw 230 vots heaters are connected in star and given 400 three phase volts wat’ll be the power?

    A question about Impedence

transformation ratio-primary voltage 60, sec.voltage 20, primary turns 120 whats the sec. turns?

If power factor reduces what happens to current ........etc.

Im thankfull to James and other sparkies for their enlighting posts about vetassess.

I signed off at 1400 hrs.though wiring was little time taking for me ,i was the first guy to complete the assessment as i could save a lot of time in assembly of starter.

At last i asked the assessor about the’ A’ lisencing and duration of TAFE course.he said i need to complete a 10 Night course to sit in licensing exam.when i pointed out about 4 years full time course, he said its not correct.i dont know how far its correct.

I hope that the outcome ‘ll be positive.it take 10 days to come.

    ESTHAPAN.

  15. Hi, this whole situation sucks... and that's that...

Bottom line is TAFE have nothing to offer, they can modify the 17751 but that's all.. other than that the list that i posted of other private colleges seem's to be the only other route, that list i got from the government (office of fair trading)..

No one knows what the hell is going on, not the government, not the colleges and definitely not Vetassess, all they worry about is assessing you for the visa, they don't give a sod about you getting a job, know one does really...

This is a scam your right and it's not looking like it's going to get resolved quickly, they get you over here butyou can then only work as an apprentice... it's insulting....

    I'm seriously thinking of a career change….

    James…

    :jimlad:

    hi,

its outragious!!! after having a lot of experience as a spark, if u r not entitled to get a A licence.hoping auzzies "ll sort out the prob. soon.
