  1. We are moving to Victoria in first week of October. We are currently renting an apartment 200 metres from the entrance to Suttons Beach.

We have been here in the rental for 4 years, there are 8 3 bedroom apartments on 2 floors. They comprise of 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms double garage. There are 2 families recently from UK one is member MickyB. Everyone gets on well together. We have a large 50 foot balcony and anther 12 foot off the master bedroom. We pay $400 per week. The owner owns them all and are teriffic to get on with. Anyone interested and want more info of photos let me know. BTW there is a lift which is a bonus especiall in a 2 storey.

  2. No, it's nature. In the wild most snakes eat rodents and that is carried over into captivity. Same with dogs and cats, they eat mostly meat. I definitely agree that keeping pigs in crates that won't allow them to turn around is incredibly cruel.

any creature in captivity in cages is cruel imo

  3. I'm not really following what you are saying. Are you saying that individuals can't decide for themselves which country gives THEM a better quality of life ? That seems a little strange to me, if a particular country doesn't give an individual what they are looking for then surely it makes sense to live somewhere that does give them what they want ? That is why Aussies live in the UK or America or Italy, Brits live in Australia, NZ, America or Spain etc etc etc. If there was one country for everyone, Utopia if you like, then that place would be full to overflowing.

If I & others were going to spend the next year explaining it, you still wouldn't get it.

I'm not talking about an individual, I am talking about the verdict of a Poll!

  4. OK, I have just cooked my first Aussie bacon sarnie. (I've always eaten it in restaurants before cooking this morning). Thoughts as follows:

Too much fat in the bacon (it's not streaky, its supposed to be the good stuff). Compared to Danepak for example, there's way too much fat. I always cut the rind off anyway but the fat to meat ratio is still quite high.

It tastes and smells a bit smoky - I don't like smoky bacon unlike a lot of Brits. This is worrying, I think its because it is pre-cured.

Looks a bit sorry for itself on the sandwich - i.e because its technically been double cooked, it looks worn out! Whereas in UK, it always has that pink, fresh look.

Not very flavourful. I've been eating good bacon for 30 years, this is not the worst bacon I have tasted - that is probably anywhere in southern europe or the USA. This is edible but don't expect much if you are coming from the UK.

Thought I'd share my thoughts just after eating it. Treat this as opinion if you want or you may wish to believe it!

    cheers!

You sure you don't work for Plumrose?

  5. By all means twist my words, you will anyway. From a personal perspective the UK most definitely is not behind any country as far as quality of life goes, that is obviously true for many others as well. It's not for you and that is fine as we are all different as I said.

You like to twist the words, sometimes you make a statement, and back it with a poll, sometimes the polls are not what you like to hear.

Go google you will find lots between 17th & 26th, I did google Chris955 Quality of Life poll, but nothing came up!

  6. I actually completely agree and obviously quality of life is different for everyone. That is why the UK is best for many, Australia for others, America for others etc etc.

I can't believe Chris you agree that quality of life is the key, and UK is so far behind.

  7. You have a way with words...................

I believe that the most important is Quality of Life, and UK is so far behind I believe 26th spot below Greece. That is more important than bloody bacon is crap.

Some people here come in with Blazing guns, but soon run out of ammo! Seen them come & seen them go, but it is entertaining after all!:jiggy:

  8. are you joking?? I'm trying to get to the bottom of this, it's not my fault if you come back with something like 'it's the type of pig!' Yes, there are different pigs but it's not the cut, its the method of curing/preparation. Also the pigs here are the same as the Danish ones.

Right, this isn't opinion anymore, it's a fact that there is no better bacon in the world than Danish back bacon. I've eaten bacon all over the world and know this to be true. Its bizarre Aussies dont have it. Thats all I'm saying here. It's the equivalent of the rich and famous driving round in beat up old Hyundai's. Why have cotton when you can have silk? You expect it in places like America where they just want fat and salt but Aus has so much nice food, its a shame they are missing out.

Dont reply saying ' thats your opinion', I'm telling you that Bacon, Sausage and Choc is inferior in Aus. Thereas some other things too but lets not get into that...

Oh well. Everything else here is great!

We love the bacon here, it is done the way we like it. Read my signature!

  9. I hate Australian eggs, they are totally inferior in every way to UK eggs, I blame the chickens. I should add though that apparently Tasmanian eggs are the best in the world and only $1 a dozen with free delivery

the eggs I buy here in Redcliffe market are from "The Big Egg Man" they average 1000g, free range, nearly every one is at least a double yoker! Chris most of British eggs are crap IMO, they are imported from Europe, only a few months ago there was a scare with salmonella poisening with a shipment from Holland or Spain

  10. 85c for water in Coles?? It's over $2 at least for the smallest bottle in my local Coles, in Bondi Junction...

Just wondering about the bacon, why do they cook it like ham instead of selling it uncooked like us? seems strange...

in my opinion Cadbury chocolate is crap here, and it is in UK too. Best chocolate for me is Whittakers, especially the 80%,

  11. surely using a proxy which you have to pay for is leaving yourself open if a napster style witch hunt was to occur in the future?

the BBC is starting to cotton on to these proxies and blocking them, turning it into a cat and mouse game, ie new proxies popping up all the time.

I would gladly pay a license fee if they broadcast it here

I have had the same proxy for 9 months now, not a problem.

  12. * TV is connected to the XBOX/PS3 which connected to the home network (and internet).

    * Laptop is also connected either wired or wirelessly to home network (and internet).

    * XBOX/PS3 is configured to web browse via the Laptop, which is turn connects to iPlayer via a UK proxy.

    Hope this helps.

Another way is to buy a wireless PC to Tv convertor kit. it has a range of about 150 feet

  13. Hi,

Thought this may be of help to someone, some technology is involved but I've tried to keep it as simple as possible so non IT folk could maybe get a nerdy friend to help set it up.

    Required:

    1) A proxy account

    2) A games console (I use a PS3 but a Wii, xbox360 or media client should work too)

    3) That the games console to be connected to the internet

    4) A PC or Mac on the same network as the console

Iplayer (and others) figure out where you are by looking at your IP address, which is given to you by your internet provider and is country specific. Its possible to present a different IP address to them (like one in the UK) by using a 'proxy'. Free proxies are available but none I tried worked very well and I ended up paying US$6 per month for a commercial one, I chose hideIPvpn and its working well but others are available and may be cheaper, as we watch as much on iplayer as we do Foxtel it seems well worth it, I'll pare my foxtel account to the minimum as soon as I can.

So, you have a proxy account, next step is to test iPlayer works through it via your PC (or Mac in my case), install firefox and then add the Foxyproxy extension, configure your UK based proxy account into it and try iPlayer.

Once this is working the next step is to get this working through your TV.

First you need to install a transparent proxy on your PC, I started out using 'SquidMan' which is a graphical frontend to the Squid proxy. Its job is to set up a passthrough to your proxy account, I needed it because although the PS3 can be directly pointed at a proxy it cant supply login/password details to the proxy (I'm now just running Squid on my NAS but thats another story).

Once the transparent proxy is working, (test with foxyproxy from firefox), point your consoles internet connection at the proxy server running on the PC/Mac (or NAS) i.e. the IP address of the PC and the port the proxy is running on.

The console should then be able to play iplayer direct to your TV over the internet, via your local proxy server and your proxy account.

I've been using this for a few weeks now and it works perfectly. I've also started streaming Spotify to my surround sound system but that needs a few more steps too, which I'll go through if anyone is interested (paid software involved).

Hope this hels, feel free to ask questions (and yes, I already know I'm a sad git or worse).

    OzP

how does your TV recognise it, meaning what is your connection between your PC & TV is it wireless or a cable connection?
