  1. And an inept Liberal government done better? Forget the ideological slant. Neither party can be separated by much if the truth be known. Just how do you imagine things will improve under Liberals? Both spent up big in bribes but ALP did get us through the GFC. Still hardly a fan.

and what a pile of debt they left us with if the truth be known

  2. i live in Baldivis the fastest growing suburb (will become a city) work is slowing down, house prices will fall it will get worse but i look at things a little different I'm a floor layer and i know there are floor layers are quiet now but not me there is work here just not enough for everyone,i think british trades can do well here because of our work ethic and customer service side of things are much better if your a decent worker you will get on i think i read you husband works in air conditioning if i were you i would just get out here he will find work and as soon has he gets his own contacts he will do well if there is only work for 90% of the work force just make sure you in the majority I'm not saying it will be easy but things worth having never are its a great learning curve to emigrate and I'm afraid Perth is what you make it work as a team and embrace the different culture and you will be fine and if you don't like it you can change things but you will never look back and wonder what if.

    good luck in your adventure

ps its no where near as bad as you've been threw in uk over the last 7 years

  3. The Housing Boom is starting to stall the new business isn't coming through now they have a year to 18 months of work then lets see what happens to much building too fast and has for immgration the only figures i hear is 1000 people a week which is the same as 5 years ago at the height of the boom trouble is they don't like to admit things here if its not what they want to hear to many new house are rentals they think house prices will only go up as it will in time but the are down times in-between the vacant rate is going up then add all the new builds that will come onto the market that tells me there is more supply than demand and that only means one thing.

I've been here nearly 6 years and i have know more people leave in the last year than the previous five but saying that if you get a decent job then i would still recommend coming here i love it and thing it has a great future in the long run.

  4. in my opinion Australia has been in recession for 4 years things just get slower and slower the mining boom has hidden this if you look at retail and the building side of things they its not so good but it also depends what job you do i'm a floor layer and i'm busy but i know layers that are really struggling alot is up to you if you have work then what does it matter everywhere else.

  5. Define boom in my thoughts is rapidly expanding ,and in that case yes the boom is nearly over there are thousands more jobs in the construction phase than the actual operation phase of a mine so yes there will be a decrease in employment but the mines are here to stay for the next hundred years or more australia isnt the only country with minerals its just that they have the infrastructure here but they have to be careful to keep the operating costs down or the mining companies will just shut shop and go elsewhere but if your work isnt connected to the mines then what does it matter europe is in a mess but people arent starving if you have your jobs still then whats change for you the mortgage rates are low prices are getting cheaper so you should be better off.

  6. Telstra is the best coverage but the most expensive but in perth and south perth you will be fine with all of them i have vodafone which i have no trouble with crazy john's use the vodafone network but like i said you should could use any Telstra is much better in remote areas so ideal if you travel around

  7. From my experience i only know of 2 families to go back in 3 years the trouble with these reports they tell you what they want you to believe it doesn't how come back again it doesn't tell you how many are glad they emigrated and now know where they won't to live if we went back tomorrow the experience has been totally worth it live is to be lived and we have realised that if you want to you can achieve a lot and we chose to go back we would be happier in the uk than we was before we came oz isn't for everyone it won't solve your problems and you still have to work hard and get your kids to school its not a holiday but we have found it friendly and there are opportunities here just like the uk but you have to make it work but everyone is different and thats what makes live interesting.

  8. Maybe something for the wannabe migrants to chew over.

When I migrated here in 1969 Australia was not the country that it is today, in fact it could be described as 'The wild west'.

Migrants arrived by ship after a 5 week voyage and usually ended up staying in a 'migrant hostel'. Two famous ones in Sydney were the Cabrammatta Hostel and the East Hills Hostel. These were primitive army camp style premises where migrant families were housed in old Nissen huts. There were no seperate rooms for adults and children, merely blankets hung as dividers. Toilets were communal and outside as were showers and baths. Meals were eaten in a large canteen building. Most hostels held around 500-600 people. To be blunt, it was bloody awfull. To show the degree of dinginess these places were, when the Vietnamese Boat people invaded Aussie shores in the late 70s and early 80s, the Government had to place them in emergency accomodation. They looked at some of the old 'migrant hostels' and deemed them unfit for habitation by humans and refused to put them in them.

Funnily enough, the majority of folk who suffered those hostels made a go of it here in Aussie. I wonder if todays migrants would be willing to put up with those conditions. Listening to a few on this site I seriously doubt it.

if it would save me £10 i would lol

i've seen the programs and can imagine how hard it must have been especially with a family but what a great country all of you have turned it into
