Hopefully moving family and house contents to Sydney in the next few months. Does anyone have recent experience with Removals from London to Sydney and could highly recommend a company? Did anyone do a short (3 month) furnished rental while waiting for their things to arrive? Know any good websites for that kind of thing? Looking to be in Upper North Shore. Thanks.

I arrived last week and just started looking for rentals around north ryde. It appears most viewings take place on a saturday and it is a nightmare. rentals are in short supply and there are alwas many peple also viewing. when i looked at maps from the uk everywhere looks close but the traffic is like the uk cities and unless you dont mind a long commute then try and get close to work.

Hi there,

We're in the same boat really. We're moving from West London to Hornsby on the North Shores of Sydney. Hoping to be gone by the end of the year, but trying to sell the house first. I think realistically looking, it's going to be Jan '09 before we get there!

Hi, good luck with your move! We arrived in Sydney in December just before Christmas, OH works in North Ryde and we didn't want to be there so we settled on the Northern Beaches. It takes him on a good day 35 mins to get to work, on a bad (?) day it takes 45 mins. You will find trying to find rental places around North Ryde, Chatswood a nightmare loads of competition for them. So many more available from Many through to Dee Why, Collaroy, Narrabeen etc plus more scenic, chilled and within easy reach of everything too. Initally we stayed 2 weeks in serviced apartments called the Medina in North Ryde until we decided and found where we wanted to be. Then although our stuff didn't come through we moved into our apartment and did a trip to Ikea for bare essentials to live with till our stuff arrived. Don't think you will find many short term lets or fully furnished places either for that matter. We found realestate.com.au a big help! Hope this helps a little!

Cheers, Jo

Collaroy is a great area. If you don't mind travelling into the city buy bus, then head for the northern beaches because they really are superb. Chatswood is good because it is on a train line, but the northern beaches are amazing on the weekends. So relaxing.

I really wish people would stop telling other people that the Northern beaches area is great - We of the long term residents don't need any more people in the area thank you Don't you know our motto is "Westies Go home" meaning anybody who lives West of the Sydney Harbour bridge should stay there !!

The local Football team is known as the "Silvertails" for go reason

Above is meant to be funny - No offense meant to anyone
