  1. Hi PomsinOz Myself and hubby have been here in Melbourne for 5 years now and love it. We started on a 457, then via employer sponsored PR. We are very lucky, the transition was very easy for us. So we have no idea how to help my daughter and partner to get a visa. We established he wants the 189 skilled visa. Hes a Carpenter and its on the SOL list. Im online jumping from RTO, TRA, OSAP, Vetessess and ASRI !! Can someone please kindly tell us the very first step he needs to do to set the ball rolling. Thank you so much
  2. Thanks folks. We do have a a festival and a great firework display every January here in Caroline Springs. Just missing my family get togethers I guess. Halloween, Bonfire night, Christmas, Easter. Always a big family gathering back home. Have 3 grown up daughters still in Uk, 1 son in China and 1 son here with 3 grand kids who are too young yet to understand. So it's hard to not do anything to celebrate them.:sad:
  3. Hi there. I know Australia doesn't celebrate it but does anyone know of a fireworks display/bonfire going on anywhere round about Melbourne? I so miss the excitement and smells. And every year without fail after visiting a display, hubby saying to the kids ' Well that's that for another year. Next stop Christmas'!
  4. That's why I always put my washing from the line straight into the tumble dryer for a few minutes in case there's something lurking in my drawers.

    In a pickle !

Hi everyone. Hope someone out there can help with our little dilema. After 2 1/2 yrs i'm going home to Uk. My husband is staying on for 6 more months to see out a couple big jobs. My husband and son both on a 457 visa working for the same company. Had everything kind of in place ready to book after weeks of research, Shipping, Flights, Dog. My son was off to China for a while to a Martial arts academy before he returned to Uk. Hes saved a long time to support himself while hes there. He has his visa, flights and acc all booked. He had given his notice in to work and only had a weeks work left to go then disaster, he broke his ankle !! :arghh: He will be in plaster for 6 weeks then physio. So we are looking at 10 weeks before he could go to China. Problem is, now he has given his notice in work the visa states he has to leave the country 28 days after his job finishes! He has asked his employer if they would take his notice back (long shot) but they said no because he may claim sick on their insurance and they dont want that but he needs his visa to stay here till he can travel. Pity he didnt break it before he had given his notice in, he would of got paid 10 weeks at full pay and not worry about being an illegal!! Is there a bridging visa that he can get in his circumstance? Hope you can help, thankyou

  7. Bigger population, smaller Island maybe?
  8. Spot on rikyuu Every time i go out in car i always wonder if i will make it home for that reason! I very rarely take my grandchildren out in the car because of dangerous driving here. Ive been home to the Uk a few times in past 2 yrs and it was fantastic to come off a slip road onto the motorway and have everyone move over for me and have people leave a gap for me to pull into. It was also nice to have people smile and say thankyou! There is no courtesy here at all. There are dozens of different nationalities driving on these roads and all have different driving standards. So makes for a bad mix. I remember seeing Top Gear a few years ago. Jeremey Clarkson was in India i think and they showed us an Indian driving test. If i remember rightly, all they guy had to do was drive the car in a straight line, on a dirt track for 30 seconds, A to B. And he was handed a pass!! :wideeyed: Correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure that was it.
  9. Hi all. Anyone who has recently gone back to Uk have a shipping company here in Oz they would recommend? Or who to avoid please? Any feedback would be gratefully received. There doesn't seem to be any recent posts on shipping from Australia to Uk. Once i have all my info, Shipping, dog carrier etc i will post on here my experience and quotes to help those who are returning too. Thanks guys

  12. Sorry i'm in Melbourne. Have started the sell off on Ebay. We decided once we made the decision to go there was no point in hanging around. Hubby not coming home till October when hes finished a major shutdown in work so it be a bit extra money for us. He phoned his ex boss in Uk and its looking good for a job on his return  Got a couple removal quotes and quotes for my dog too. As soon as i have them all in i will post my findings on here. I've had a lot of good info from PIO so i will return the favour i think. Good luck to you to on your return
  13. Thankyou Moving 2 Melbourne
  14. Hi Mishunlmp I'm not particularly attached to anything i bought here. The only things i really want to take back is the stuff i bought over with me 2 1/2 yrs ago and thats still in the garage in boxes unwrapped!!!! Everything i had in Uk was decent and i just gave it all away..funny how when you want to sell things no one wants it...but as soon as you give it away...everyone wants it!! Theres only myself and hubby to think about now so we could sell everything and move into a mud hut if we wanted to  100kg with Air Asia wow thats a lot Ikea furniture seems to sell very well here on Ebay here in Oz, not far off the original price! Strange! Hope you settle ok this time now you back in Australia.
  15. Hi Had a look round but cant find any threads to do with shipping my furniture back to the Uk. Any idea who to use and costs etc would be much appreciated. Unsure wether to sell everything and just take personal stuff or take all home. When we left the Uk we gave everything away..big mistake...and bought most of stuff here from ikea so its not long term forever kind of furniture.
