Agents, Assist Please!

I am a 37 year old, Apprentice trained Instrumentation and Control Specialist with more than 10 years of experience. I have a National Diploma in Instrumentation & Control(Electronic Engineering), Certificate in Industrial Measurement & Control Technician Part 3 (City & Guilds), Technician Diploma in Electrical Engineering Theory & Technician Diploma in Engineering (City & Guilds).

 

I am currently residing and working in South Africa.

 

On the SOL 2016, there is Electronic Instrument Trades worker (General); Code: 342314 - TRA and Electronic Instrument Trades worker (Special Class) Code: 342315 - TRA. What are the roles and responsibilities/differences of these two occupations - that is if there is any agent with a bit of knowledge with this? Here in South Africa, we are called Instrumentation & Control Mechanicians, Technicians or Specialists - depending on your qualifications and experience. So i just want to know the resemblance. Also what is the demand like of these positions in Australia?

 

I have got a two year old son and my wife is 34. She holds a Masters in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) & she is a Registered Professional Natural Scientist with (SACNASP). She has also 6 + years of experience doing EIA Consultancy and 4 + years as a University Lecturer.

 

We are planning to migrate to Australia as soon as possible so; The VISA we think suits my situation is Skilled – Independent Visa (Subclass 189).

I'd suggest having a good look at the AnzscoSearch website - http://www.anzscosearch.com as you can see the tasks/duties for occupations there and see which occupations are on the SOL list (eligible for 189 visa) or the CSOL list (eligible for state sponsored 190 or 489 visa if a state chooses to sponsor that occupation).

With respect to these occupations I suggest you try http://www.tradeset.com.au/ and just work through the stated competencies for your trades. You could also try the simpler New Zealand version http://skillshortages.immigration.govt.nz/electronic-instrument-trades-worker-special-class/ .

 

Your wife may have migration options, I would suggest you look carefully at the SOL and CSOL and consider state sponsorship.
