gypsyowl
I applied for a Contributing Parent Visa in July 2014, which means it should be approved in 3 - 4 months. I haven't heard from anyone yet. Is a background check required before talking to an Aussie agent? Some information says "you MAY be required to get a background check." as it will take 15 weeks to get the background check from my native country, should I get it now? CaptainC
It's 50/50 whether you'll be asked to provide a police certificate. If you have past convictions no matter how minor they might be then you'll have needed to declare them on the application form. If you declare then it's likely that you'll be asked for the police certificate. If you don't declare, and they subsequently ask for the certificate, then you'll almost certainly be refused the visa and lose your money. Just hold out and wait to be asked for the police certificate, or if you wish then apply for one now to preempt the question. If you don't need one then you've only lost a couple of dollars. gypsyowl
Thanks very much. I have no previous criminal record unless parking tickets count. I think I'll get the police check, just in case, as it does take a long time and my fingerprints don't print well.
