Slightly longer if you're outside Australia. When you apply, if you use the new passport number then it will automatically be linked. If you apply and then subsequently apply for a new passport then you'll either need to complete form 929 to update them with the new details, or if you have an immiaccount connected to the visa application then you should be able to do it online through the immiaccount.
