Me, my partner and children are looking to move to Australia. My partner is a biomedical scientist here and I was wondering what that is in Australia and what is the pay like there. Also would like to know which part of Australia you think is the best for living. Which is near a hospital and secondary school

That last part cracked me up. Australia is not a retarded country with only 5 hospitals and 7 schools. Sure, there are remote villages where schools or hospitals are hard to come by but chances are very slim that you'll want to live there.

The east coast is the most populated part of Australia. As in best place for living that's hard for us to say. There's heaps of beautiful and great places to live. You can go live in a city, in a suburb, a town, a village,...

As far as I know a biomedical scientist in the UK is a biomedical scientist in Australia. As far as pay goes I wouldnt know, maybe you can look around on jobsites such as seek.com.au, look for a similar job and look what sort of wage is in the job advert. That should give you an idea :)

You can only get a visa to live and work in Australia if your (by that I mean in your case, your partner's) occupation is listed on the SOL or CSOL. If it is on the SOL, your occupation is eligible for all work visas provided you can meet the specific requirements for each visa. If your occupation is only on the CSOL, you must have state government or employer sponsorship.

http://www.immi.gov.au/Work/Pages/skilled-occupations-lists/skilled-occupations-lists.aspx The SOL and CSOL

The occupation called 'Biomedical Scientist' is not on either list but that is probably because of a difference in terminology between the UK and Australia. Your first steps should be to identify a) what your occupation is called here and b) which list (if any) it is on.

ANZSCO code 233913 Biomedical Engineer is on the SOL - is that the same thing? ANZSCO describes the occupation as...

233913 BIOMEDICAL ENGINEER

Applies knowledge and methodology of physics, engineering, mathematics, computing, physical chemistry and materials science to problems in biology and the treatment and prevention of human disease. Registration or licensing may be required.Skill Level: 1
    Specialisations:

      Bioengineer
      Clinical Engineer
      Medical Engineer

If that's not the right occupation, you should consult a good MARA Registered Migration Agent (RMA) who will be able to advise you on whether your occupation comes under some other heading. Ask on here for agent recommendations.

As far as your other questions are concerned, there is no 'best' place in Australia. It's a huge country with widely varying climactic conditions but with employment opportunities for some occupations available only in certain locations. We have hundreds of hospitals and every one will have a secondary school (usually several) in the same area. You should have little trouble finding somewhere that suits your preferred climate and lifestyle and with good schools but employment opportunities may restrict your amount of choice to some extent. First things first though, find out if a visa is likely to be possible.
