489 family sponsored visa

Recommended Posts

In order to be eligible to apply for a permanent visa, you must live in a specified regional area for 2 years and work full time in the area for one year but the work can be in any occupation. It doesn't need to be in any way related to your nominated occuaption.

I am being sponsored by my relative who stays in Melbourne, so that means i can stay anywhere in the Melbourne right?

But the thing is, i was told by my agent that i will need to work in my nominated occupation and i tried finding the source of information from the immigration website but couldn't find one..so bit confused

The entire state of Victoria is a designated area for eligibility for a permanent 887 visa when applied for by the holder of a Family Sponsored 489 visa so you can live and work in Melbourne if you wish to do so.

You won't find anywhere on the DIBP website that supports what your agent has told you about you having to work in your nominated occupation because s/he is wrong. You can work in any occupation.
