Avengerpenguin
Heading over on a 457 which also sponsors the wife and kids, meaning my 17 yr old daughter wants a part time job. What happens with the tax, is there a earning threshold for 457 visa, will be pay tax on everything she earns? Does she need to submit a tax return? Ozmaniac
Her employer will give her a Tax File Number Declaration form and on that, she can provide a TFN or claim an exemption from providing one because she is under 18 and earning under the tax free threshold of $18,200. Further down the form (Q7), she puts an X in the box to say that she is a Resident for tax purposes (even though she has a 457 visa, she will be a Resident for Tax Purposes) and on Q8 she puts an X in the box to say that she is claiming the Tax-free threshold. If she completes the form correctly and will earn under $18,200 in the financial year and no tax has been deducted from her income, she will not have any tax deducted and will not need to lodge a tax return. https://www.ato.gov.au/Forms/TFN-declaration/?page=4#How_to_complete_this_form How to complete a TFN Declaration form
