dooocati
So, three days ago, after 4.5 years of waiting, I've got my GSM 175 Visa. Next thing on the agenda is, finding a job! From previous experiences signing up with recruitment agencies here in Ireland, I find them a complete waste of time. Happy to promise the sun, moon and stars but in a puff of smoke, they're nowhere to be seen after they've gotten your details. Ive never found a job via this avenue but usually through direct communication to employers. What is the consensus with recruitment agencies in Australia? Worth signing up, or a waste of time? Im a web / graphic designer so if anyone can point me in the right direction or give me any advice I'd really appreciate it. Have to get the resume out there so I'll be spending lengthy hours over the next while getting myself out there.
jimmy1986
Are you on linkedIn? If so, change your location to Melbourne (or whichever city you want to go to). That way you'll come up in the searches when recruiters are looking for local devs. It'll take about a week before you get any bites. Put something in your summary about PR granted, to be clear you're good to work and don't require sponsorship. I'm a backend Java guy, so can't really advise on the web stuff, however on the web side, AngularJS seems to be very popular here at the moment, most of our front end guys are using it in some form or another. Check out meetup.com for tech meetups, see what people are talking about, it'll help with networking too

Hi dooocati, firstly, many congrats on getting the grant. it's really valuable PR around the world. I'm 175er as well and as you are in the same boat you can feel the pain of waiting more than 4.5 year etc... I'll be really grateful to you if you please let me know about your Nationality to analyse me the situation as it looks like there is further delay for HR countries. Wish you good luck in your job hunting efforts... Thanks! Cheers, Zahoor

Thankfully it came through, I didnt think it would ever happen and when least expected, was called for my Medicals. Then less than two weeks later, I was granted the visa. I have six months to activate it which means Ive to leave here before end of July 2015. Lots to do and lots to organise before I make the move.
