I left the UK december 2013 and i'm currently in Thailand and my work for 28 years has been carpet fitting/installer.

Skills & Knowledge

Commercial and domestic work such as Hotels, airports, care centres and living properties in carpets, vinyl, wood and laminates.

I’ve worked as a flooring specialist for the last 28 years installing a wide range of flooring throughout the UK and also in Spain.

I’m able to run a flooring project from start to finish and have the capability to bring a team together to complete a full project with my self been part of a team.

From having first contact with the client or contractor to get to know want the client or contractor expects of the finished product and a understanding time scales working with drafts and plans for the planning a time scale and quantities.

I’m also able to working on site with plans and measuring equipment to create cutting plans for all types of patterns and designs and ordering materials to meet deadlines to keep the project running on time.

High end products I’ve worked with as a flooring specialist

Domestic range Axminster, Wilton Royal, Stodards, westex Brintons, Cavalier, Ulster, all products from 27 inch to 12 foot wide.

Commercial range

Amtico, Polyflor, Altro also ply-boarding and screeding, using glues and finishing products.

I’ve also done a small amount of on site heat welding for contract vinyl .

Ok i'm in Thailand, can i apply for a working visa without a sponsor ?

Would i be able to get a self employed visa ?

Would i need an offer from a company ?

Is there work for carpet fitter in Australia ?

There's much talk about getting visas before entering Australia and then walk and getting skill assessment done then getting the visa....!

I'm a bit lost on all this and would be grateful for any advice at all thanks.

Your occupation (Floor Finisher ANZSCO code 332111) is only on the CSOL which means that it is only eligible for state/territory and employer sponsored visas.

3 states/territories are willing to sponsor flood finishers but you would need to score 60 points on the points test AND have a positive skills assessment from TRA. You haven't mentioned any qualifications and I don't think you have any chance of getting a positive assessment without qualifications. Check the TRA skills assessment requirements to see if I'm correct.

A self sponsored 457 visa may be an option but I'm afraid I know little about the requirements beyond the fact that you must set up a company in Australia and then actively operate that company with you as an employee - self sponsoring is a pretty complicated process and you will need a good RMA to help. Hopefully, someone else will come along with more info on that possibility.

Otherwise, that only leaves a 457 temporary employer sponsored visa and you must have an eligible employer willing to sponsor you before you can apply for the visa.

Well as a floor finisher/carpet fitter doesn't have any paper work as such for qualifications within the trade as its all learn on site and there's no exams as such within the trade only fro of of what you can do using references and photos of work done.

my education is a standard with a few GCSE's and i did the store rating a few years ago using a visa agent in the uk and i can out high on the rating above the 60 mark and I'm not married and i don't have any kids and single and i have funds in the bank.
