MichaelD
Well start with the simple truth and go from there, ITS HARD TO GET WORK!!! Sorry but it is, took me three months, by all accounts it can be easier or harder with no real reasoning behind it. If you want building work then budget for your white card, about $100 ish you cant work on a building site without one. Cafe work, loads of cafes, hundreds of em, need to do a barista course, costs $100 ish Bar work, need your RSA, $100 ish Thats the negative shitty bit now for the good bits, Pay here is way higher than you would think for the types of work you mentioned, The city is amazing and the life style is great. If your out here back packing look into the farm work, you need to do 88 days or something like that to qualify for your second year, might be worth looking at doing some of that to start with then once you find your feet look for something in the city. The advantage is you will likely get room and board with the rural stuff so gives you great footing to get started. Networking is a biggy, most jobs are through knowing someone who knows a guy type of deal. Agencies are a good way forward but theres allot of competition, I got lucky and had social connections to the agency so got a bit of a leg up there lol. Hope this gives a better picture and welcome to the forum
