@ozshuttler have you application status changes from Approved to Finalised yet?

You need to wait until you have received the citizenship certificate to apply for passport

I have my citizenship certificate but when I enter the certificate number, the system is not able to validate it successfully. My immi account is still approved. Probably will have to wait two weeks as recommended in the citizenship ceremony welcome letter. Was just curious to see if anyone had any success applying soon after ceremony.

    Vannakkam,

When I applied I was staying at Pcode 3000 then at the time of Interview I moved to 3006 now during Ceremony waiting period I moved within 3006. All comes under same Melbourne council. Lets See what next 🙂

If you're within the same council, you wont lose your spot in the queue. Hope you get your ceremony sooner! Good luck.

    Hello Friends,

Recently I have changed address within Southbank(Comes under Melbourne council) I have updated my new address in Immi account using "Change of address" along with attaching address proof. As my new address comes under same council. Is there any chance my Ceremony call list go backwards?

    Citizenship applied: 6 May 2020

Test - 26 April 2021 - Approved on same day

    Invitation call - Waiting 🙂

    Vanakkam!

Based on the date you submitted your change of address, your file will be allocated to the new council and you won't retain your spot. you will join the queue.

    source: personal experience.

    Regards,

    TN21 guy :D

  5. Ok, came here to post a question regarding my friend's application now. Need some ideas on how we could get his application moving.

Below is the timeline of my friend's application

    Applied for citizenship in Jan 2020;

Location - Melbourne; Council Area - Brimbank Council

Additional Applicants Included - Daughter (4 Years Old) and hasn't returned yet due to covid.

Daughter Travelled Overseas with Mother in April 2020 after application due to family emergency.

    Application Status :Received.

Applicant travelled overseas in Dec 2020 and returned June 2021.

    Application Status - Received.

While there are many others from Melbourne region who have applied after him, had test appointments, we haven't had any progress on his application. How can we request to find why the application hasn't progressed. When contacted DHA we got a standard response that we need to wait as the timelines specified in DHA website is only for 75% and 90% applications. Is there anyway we could get exact reasons as to why his application is not being picked up.

That's all true.  However, apart from the first one (the VET loan), you don't have to put your life on hold for any of the rest.  There are thousands of people living in Australia who never get around to getting citizenship, they live on their PR visa their whole lives.

Defence and government jobs are only a small percentage of the jobs available in Australia, unless you live in Canberra.  Find other work.

Moving to another area may mean a delay in your citizenship grant, but it's just a delay.  If you're getting on with your life, it doesn't matter.

If you leave the country, your citizenship application stops.  That's the way it works for a good reason. The Australian government wants to ensure that people are getting citizenship for the right reasons, i.e. because they want to make a life in Australia.  If you leave to live in your own country again, then the citizenship application can't proceed.  It's frozen until you return.  They can't just take your word for it that you're planning to return.  All you can do is ensure you have a RRV in place and that you return before it expires.

There may be alternate options as you said, but you cannot decide for others anyway. There is always some reason that they find is more compelling based on their individual circumstance and even if it isn't compelling, the mere fact of proudly calling yourself an Australian officially is a good enough reason for people to seek getting to ceremony quicker. We all have been through so many hurdles to get here and it does makes sense for people to want to get it done ASAP particularly when they have been approved and the only last step is a ceremony.

Test completed today. My application is on Received status as my NZ police Clearance has to be verified before they finalise my case. The officer said it might be 2-5 days for verification but given most ppl here with received status had to wait 2 months for status change, I think I'm also on the waiting game. Next update after approval.

Also, they indicated 6-8 months waiting time for ceremony in Brisbane city council.

I did a FOI on number of applications awaiting ceremony in Brisbane city council and the number is ~8100.

My application has got approved today (Week since my test date). Now the waiting game for ceremony.

Anyone knows what happens if I change my address on my immi account? will I have to supply any evidence of proof of address?

Thinking of providing my brother's address in Sydney because the waiting time is far less than here in Brisbane. Also, NSW councils are running virtual ceremonies. so, will be great to get it quick to be able to access HECS-HELP for my Masters.

Number is increasing from Nov 2020. There were 4,312 clients whose applications for citizenship by conferral had been approved and were waiting for a citizenship ceremony hosted by the Brisbane City Council as 30 Nov 2020.

Also, below is the number of applications who attended citizenship ceremonies per month at BCC from Jan 2020 to Sep 2020. I'm waiting for the updated number until 2021.

    image.png.54b1b895d7e06a33d08cfcfdf867cab8.png

Looking at the number of 2020, it seems that BCC can increase number of invite to ceremonies per month. That's up to them. If they invite about 2000 applicants per month, ~8100 applicants will only need 4 months to reach. But the big question will be, how many people they invite per month?

I'll wait for the updated numbers and let you know.

Wow, they've done 6500 invitations in Jan 2020. May be Australia Day ceremony event in a stadium or something? Somewhere I read their capacity is only 600 per ceremony event at their usual venue. If they can do so much, it is about time they clear the backlog sooner.

    Hi mate,

What do you mean of NZ police clearance verification? Is it refer to CO to verify the police check documentation you upload is genuine? Thanks.

Yeah, to verify that the document is genuine. They asked me to sign a declaration to consent for privacy information sharing with the department. They will use this consent form and request NZ Justice for verification of my police clearance letter.

Also, this step is only for NZ police clearance I believe because the declaration was specific to Ministry of Justice NZ and they did not ask similar declaration for my India Police Clearance.

    Hi guys need a suggestion

Applied for my citizenship on 18/03/2021 Brisbane city, my wife and daughter still didn't reach the requirement for their citizenship

I changed my daughters name after lodging my citizenship application and got a new birth certificate and change of name certificate. I have attached the two certificates is that enough or do I also need to apply for her new Indian passport ( which I will do in coming days) and attach the document.

Just wondering about the timeline for Brisbane city council.

    Thanks

    Hi Kumar,

We are 1 month apart in our submissions. I did on the 19th April. I'd be keen to follow your progress. Am from Brisbane too.

Is your daughter under 16? If so, you could have included her in your application itself. They don't need to meet the eligibility condition separately. Only your wife needs to meet the conditions on her own.

I submitted an FOI request for a number of people waiting to be allocated to a ceremony in Lane Cove and received the response yesterday. As of 31 March 2021, there were 287 people waiting for a ceremony.

Hi.. How do you submit an FOI? Is it with DHA or city council?
