  1. We're in the queue for 143 also, having lodged in 2019 and now expecting to have to wait longer than first advised, so are now looking at applying for 870. My daughter who has citizenship is looking to lodge sponsorship forms in July this year. We are visiting for three months in September, having not seen her since July 2019 thanks to Covid. Our first grandson will be now turning three shortly! Although facetime is a godsend, a computer screen can never replace that physical emotion.

We also have a son who is a Canadian citizen and so for us it has been extremely hard over the last two years. As parents, we are extremely proud of our children and what they have both achieved and like Linda, would never ask or expect them to return here to support us. They too, have made sacrifices in order to pursue their dreams. I sometimes feel that the Australian Government is blindsided by their 'medical concerns' and 'lack of contribution' when deciding the quota of Parental visas, especially when the cost is so high financially but more importantly mentally. My husband and I are committed to seeing our application through and one day, hopefully in the not so distant future, we will be raising a glass to them & thanking them for giving us the opportunity to recoup some of that physical emotion that we have missed so much.

Good luck to everyone, which ever route you choose to take.

I actually think that most on 143 will NOT be such a burden. After all, they hv contributed a sizeable amount besides financial sponsorship. Also they would hv cleared medicals. On the positive side, they will add value to the economy via helping with grandkids and cooking and domestic chores. This will release local labour into the economy and lessen need for more immigration. Don't you agree?

    No.
Many 60 year olds would clear a medical now and 20 years later need 24 hour care or at very least, expensive joint replacements/cancer care.  As for helping with grandkids, I’m sure the economy would fair better if a childminder/nursery was used for this, that’s another job created.  I can’t imagine everyone would be moving to the other side of the world to do someone’s domestic chores but for those that do, how is that going to help the economy.  It may release a few into the labour market as you say that wouldn’t otherwise work but very few and that would in no way cover the possible tens of thousands of dollars in aged care that’s round the corner.

As one of those 'oldies' that you refer too, (I have recently just turned 60) and being of sound mind & body, I feel my daughter & son in law  would very much benefit from having us there to help with childcare & chores. Facetime & whatsapp are a wonderful tool for keeping in touch but there is nothing quite like the hands on support you can give your children. After all, isn't this the reason for applying for the visa in the first place. FAMILY. For me the sizeable financial outlay we are prepared to make to the Australian government is nothing compared to the time we will be able to spend with our grandchild.

  3. Hi Nathalia

We applied for our 143 in August 2019 & had an agent complete the forms (Form 47PA). My husband is main applicant & I only had to complete Part F. - Details of Partner. Part H was filled with our children's details only, so in answer to your question, I would say no. Would love to know how they get on. The waiting is killing us!! We received acknowledgement of lodgement in Sept 2019 & are now in the queue & probably have another two - three years to wait. Not sure if the current situation with Covid is affecting new applications. Hope this is helpful
