Applied in Melbourne in Jan 2021. No news yet. I don't have my UK passport either as I have sent it to UK to get a new one so hoping I don't get called for test before I get new passport. Guessing i need to show it at the test?

If you don't get your passport by that time, postpone your test.

You will see that option in the email , which will be sent to you.

Test completed today. My application is on Received status as my NZ police Clearance has to be verified before they finalise my case. The officer said it might be 2-5 days for verification but given most ppl here with received status had to wait 2 months for status change, I think I'm also on the waiting game. Next update after approval.

Also, they indicated 6-8 months waiting time for ceremony in Brisbane city council.

I did a FOI on number of applications awaiting ceremony in Brisbane city council and the number is ~8100.

    Petition Reason

Australia is a multicultural country where many of it’s citizens and permanent residents (PR) migrated from overseas. Therefore, thousands of Australian’s and PR have parents living abroad. Currently parents are unable to to travel to Australia to be reunited with family because they are not classed as ‘immediate family’. Parents are essential and connection with family is equally as important to migrants as it is to families living in Australia. Australians and PR have not seen their parents for a significant amount of time due to the travel ban and a strict exemption criteria which prevents people from obtaining exemptions unless they have a ‘compelling reason’. Covid-19 has impacted many Australians, however, being apart from parents for an extended period of time without an indication of when they will be reunited puts unrealistic expectations on those desperate to see family. This has had a profound impact, mental health has significantly declined, children have not met grandparents, people have had to give up work due to limited support and families are having to re-evaluate their lives in Australia and have had to leave despite being here for many years. Citizens and PR have jobs and responsibilities with they cannot leave for 3 months or more.

    Petition Request

We therefore ask the House to add parents as an exemption category. If exemptions cannot be obtained for parents coming to Australia please consider allowing exemption for people with family overseas to travel. Reunification with family should be a compelling and compassionate reason.

Yeah just kinda excited but yeah no point in rushing actually.
I just moved to a new suburb 5mins from my former address, still here in ACT.
Two other friends took the test and got approved on the same day as mine and they still haven’t got any mail so I’m assuming there’s just a backlog.

My bad, should’ve told the officer about it.

New suburb under same council ???

If No, Call 131880 and confess. They will move your file to new place.

    Hi everyone,

I passed my citizenship test and got approved on the same day on 22 Feb 2021.

The next day, we moved to a new address and I also notified and updated my details on my immi account.
Until now I still haven’t got any invitation for the ceremony. I’m afraid that it was sent to my old address or am I just feeling rushed about it? As I’ve seen from the above posts, they also send a message to the immi account. Checked mine and there’s none.
I guess I’m just being too excited about my citizenship ceremony?(who wouldn’t? lol)

    Thanks in advance! 🙂

    too excited ?

Well, as a rule, if you relocate after approval,

Change address in IMMI + Call 131880 and confess. They will move your file to new place.

If you had plans to move to new address very next day, why did not you tell the case officer about your relocation? They could have moved your file to new address.

I applied 22 May 2020 and just received a test interview in Melbourne (date in early June and easily rescheduled to late April)

I noticed on the letter that you need to bring your original birth certificate? I uploaded a copy for every visa before this and don't have the original document in the country. Does anyone have experience with this? I may need to reschedule to a later date to allow postage time from overseas...

Get it posted to you today , it can reach you for any future purposes. Good to keep your own BC in your own house.

Because of covid 19, DEPTT don't like to ask / touch many documents. ONLY essentials like DL/Passport.

Well i asked myself like 4 times and not even a single answer from them. Also from the timelines of people in the forum not a single VR in QLD; despite many offered in Melbourne, Adelaide and NSW.

Do you believe someone in Victoria/Melbourne got a virtual ceremony ?

Anyone in your circle got Virtual ceremony in Vic ?

Do you/your friend remember, if they saw their invite in immi account/email first or in mailed paper invite/letter ?

I believe, Dept of home affairs will notify in immi account first and then council will send letters.  Can you please confirm.

is it with everyone that they could see the CEREMONY INVITE in IMMI or in email, before getting the invite letter in postal?

Like can we expect update in immi account first and then wait for letter in mailbox.

    please comment.

The Department of Home Affairs send an approved candidate list to council approximately six weeks prior to a ceremony.

I am not best person to answer, but have same Q. Anyone ?

Does anyone remember, if they saw their invite in immi account/email first or in mailed paper invite/letter ?

Quick question. My husband had his interview and test today - passed with 100% and the immi account already says 'approved'. However, he has just received another email for another test and interview - and this showing up in his appointments tab in Immi. Has this happened to anyone else before? Thoughts?

    Thanks.

Call them and get rid of it.
