    Specific guidance from AITSL:

    Professional

The professional criterion must be met in one of two ways:

    (i)    an initial teacher education qualification of at least one year full-time study (or part-time equivalent) at the higher education (university) level that includes a minimum of 45 days of supervised teaching practice with students in a school setting, and a formal post graduate qualification in special education of at least one year in duration (full-time or part-time equivalent) at the higher education (university) level.

NOTE - Applicants relying on a postgraduate special education qualification to, in-part, meet the professional criterion must have completed a minimum of 45 days of supervised teaching practice in a school setting as part of their initial teacher education qualification to meet the professional assessment criteria.

    or

(ii) an undergraduate initial teacher education qualification with a specialisation in special education of at least one year full-time study (or part-time equivalent), at the higher education (university) level that includes a minimum of 45 days of supervised teaching practice with students within a special education setting.

The professional qualification/s must be assessed as comparable to the educational level of an Australian bachelor degree or higher.

    Hi Richard,

I have completed a PGCE 5-11 years SEN. I have spoken to another migration agent who has said this does not meat the criteria as AITSL states the SEN course must be in addition to the PGCE - she said: the checklist makes it clear that the Initial Teacher Qualification and the Special Needs Qualification are separate “ items” that need to be ticked, The requirement is for an Initial Teacher Qualification (minimum one year) PLUS a minimum one year SEN qualification.'

Please can you shed some light on this, it's really hard getting different answers from different sources.
