The start date of the four-year lawful residence period is usually the date four years immediately before they lodge their application.
Thanks for that Paulhand. I'm still confused as to how the absence is calculated.
Lawful entry in Feb 2016. In Sep 2020 I will have 4 years residence in Australia, including 1 year as a PR, minus the 'absences' which amount to 17 months.
But the calculator still says it's okay. However on the DHA website they state absences can't be over 12 months total in last 4 years, so the statements feel contradictory which is what confuses me.

On 11 September 2016 (4 years before your intended lodgement date), you were not in Australia nor a permanent resident - see other posts on this forum about this condition.
I think you can only apply 4 years after your return to Australia, on 2 Feb 2021.
Yes MrGrieves, that makes more sense to me Feb/2021... but my heart wants to believe rammygirl

Did you go by the calculator at all when you prepped your citizenship application?
Also should I add my first lawful visa in Australia into the equation or no need?

Hello people~
I need help to understand the residence calculator on DHA website. Very confused.
It says before applying for Citizenship, you must have lived in Australia lawfully for 4 years, including 1 year as a permanent resident.
And you cannot have been outside Australia for 12 months total, during the past 4 years.
So I did enter my dates in the calculator as seen below.
Permanent Residence Date: 31/08/2019Lawful Residence Date: 07/02/2016Intended Lodgement Date: 11/09/2020and the absence dates:From Date: 05 Jun 2016 To Date: 02 Feb 2017 From Date: 30 Apr 2017 To Date: 01 Aug 2017 From Date: 01 Oct 2018 To Date: 23 Dec 2018 From Date: 03 Dec 2019 To Date: 20 Jan 2020 Now the calculator says yes I can apply for Citizenship but we can clearly see that I've been out for 17 months...it doesn't make sense.
Also..should I count from the first visa I got in Australia? which was in 2008. or the first visa i got 4 years before the citizenship application.Any help or clarification would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Actually I got my Rcb refused and I applied again in June and immigration asked me for my documents like medical and police check.... I gave my all documents in 28 days ..... then immigration gave me 28 days to get my RCB approved ..... fingers crossed
yeah well I really don't understand them.
Is the rcb needed or not...weird.. -

Hello dear, did your friend got PR without rcb
Yes correct. I didn't know it was possible...I was shocked actually haha and thought it was unfair but anyways good for her.

Congratulations Does Immi open and work on Saturday?
I don't now if they open or it's computerised.
But I also got nomination on a Saturday. and 28 days later PR.Once you get nomination, it's pretty certain you'll get PR, if AFP check is clean, and character assessment is good and health is good.

Sorry for that....this is very long time. So unfair that immigration does not process older applications instead of applications coming from 2019.i know all depends from the case but , comon! august 2016 ??? thats crazy!
this is our life and is so bad they make us wait so long.....we can't organize our future cause we don't no what our future will be until they decide...so frustrating
I agree sometimes it's a bit unfair. I wonder if the state that treat the application has something to do.
Cause my friend also applid 187 in NSW, but she applied 3 months AFTER ME, and DIDN'T get RCB.
She got nomination and LESS THAN 24 hours after nomination she got PR, 2 months ago. It only took 16 months for her, the whole process.
And she's working in a small restaurant that's not busy so she says she's very relaxed.
compared to me which took 22 months, got RCB, nomination, and I'm crazy busy in a big restaurant.

Thanks
I spoke to the two officers,i ask them is it a good sign. They said to me,it is a good sign to see you here in the restaurant working.i was in the kitchen at the time they came but the only issue is that someone introduced me as a head chef which they mentioned in their recording interviews. FINGERS CROSS,EVERYTHING GOES WELL .
When you say recording though, they videotaped you? voice recording?
It is indeed a good sign that you were working when they come and if all legit don't worry!
That's the reason they do those itws, to see if everything's legit about your employment. So it's all good.- 1

Got the visit of 2 border officer today at work.they recorded my interview. Ask so many questions. Is it a good sign? After how long will i get an answer from immigration?
*correction they itw my boss not me.
Had the same happen to me. and received nomination 1 month later and request for medical and form 80.
If everything is legit at your work place, and all is in order. Then you have nothing to worry about- 1

Hi guys !
I need your help .
I have submitted my medical and form 80, I can see my medical updated on immi account but I can’t see my form 80. And my immi account still shows action Required, but they didn’t require more information. My lawyer said that my name is different on few certificates and forms and I have to do my AFP with all the names . So I applied my afp last week. Do you guys know that how long it takes to get AFP in mail. I am bit stressed.
thanks
Hey Kaur,
I'm in regional QLD and between apply and receive the certificate it only took 7 days!! It's coming from Canberra, so I guess if you're near there it should be quicker.

Legend mate thanks!
I though it was counted from lawful residence date. Makes sense now. Thank you so much for clarifying this for me.
