It depends what criteria the assessing authority use. I went through engineers Australia and they have a booklet on the criteria and what they are looking for. I trained as a mechanical engineer (so initially thought I would use that classification) but have spent the last 12 years working in management. Against the criteria, I was qualified as an engineer but could not demonstrate that I was an engineer (I was paid too much and my job titles did not fit). I ended up applying as an Engineering Manager, and against the criteria only 7 years of the last 10 qualified as an Engineering Manager.

I have been invited to apply for a 489 visa for Tasmania. To apply for permanent residency I know I need 2 years living in the territory and 1 year working, in terms of proving my working experience to claim points for the 489 application I needed to write a career development report, have that signed and verified by my employer, and then assessed by Engineers Australia. Is it the same approach when I apply for the 887?
