I'm also a Secondary Teacher (from Scotland) and have 65 points. I'm planning on also applying for 190 (NSW) for the additional 5 points but think it will still be a struggle to get an invite. I'm hoping the changes in November will make a difference as I am applying as a single applicant so should get an additional 10 points - this may also apply for you?

Hi Mahr,

The supervised teaching practice is the number of days you spent on placement. I'm not sure about EYTS as my skills assessment was for secondary teaching.

I was so worried about the speaking and it was my highest score! I think I should be ok with the English test, I'll give it one more go.

I've actually just had a look at the point changes and it looks like I'll get an extra 10 points as I don't have a spouse. 

How many points did you have when you applied for the 190? Did it take long to get your invite?

Yeah I thought it was two years. But I'm assuming that as long as its valid when you submit your EOI then it's ok?

Did you miss out on the writing section? 

With the superior English I will have 65 points (189) and 70 points (190 NSW). From what I've read it seems to be a struggle to get an invite with 65 points so focusing on the 190.

How far along are you in the process?

I had my first attempt at the IELTS back in February and got L7.5, R8, W.7.5, S9. I was expecting a lower score for the writing so going to sort out a tutor to bring my score up. I didn't find the listening difficult but it felt extremely long and I think I just lost focus towards the end. 

I'm planning on booking my test again in a couple of weeks but just really don't want to waste another £170 so really need to study. 

Also, is there an expiry date on AITSl? My skills assessment was approved back in November 2018 and feel like I keep pushing my IELTS back so haven't submitted my EOI. I'm worried that I will need to pay for another skills assessment.

Hi Chris,

I'm a Secondary Teacher and from Scotland too.  I got my skills assessment back in November and I'm sure it took just under 8 weeks. 

I had to email my uni for a letter to confirm that I had completed at least 45 days supervised teaching. The criteria is on the AITLS website. I'm sure it also has to state the age range of the pupils too. I also needed a certified copy of my undergraduate degree, transcripts from my undergraduate and my PGDE certificate.

I didn't include a letter from my employer as I'm still in my probation year and can't claim any points for work experience.

Are you a primary or secondary teacher? How many points do you have?

If it is just for the visa points then you can do general. If AITSL are asking for it then it’s academic but you should be able to use your UK qualifications.

General is slightly easier I believe.

I am about to book my IELTS test but unsure if I should select the general or academic. I need to score all 8's for the additional 20 points - any advice?

I'm just about to book my IELTS English test.  I received my received my skills assessment from AITLS back in November. 

Did you book the general or academic test? I'm planning on sitting it in five weeks - is this enough time to prepare?  I need to get all 8's so I can get the additional 20 points.

Did anyone have any issues when they posted their skills assessment? I've looked at my tracking number and it looks like the AITSL still haven't received it. Anyone know what "awaiting clearance" means?

I'm also an NQT (Business Studies) and I've now gathered all my documents and posting them off tomorrow for the skills assessment. 

How many points do you have? Are you also applying for the 190? It would be good to keep in touch since we are in a similar situation!

I am an NQT Secondary Teacher (Business Studies) and currently completing my NQT year in Scotland and will finish up in June 2019.  I have been scanning over these forums for a while, contacted a few agents and have now decided to try and get PR by applying for PR through 189/190 (NSW).

I have an Honours Degree in Marketing (4-year course), Masters in Global Mental Health, PGDE Secondary Education (1-year course with 90 days of supervised lessons).  I have now gathered all my documents and will get them certified next week and then send them off for the skills assessment.  I'm planning on booking my PTE test for the end of October and want to submit my EOI around November.

After speaking with some agents they stated that I will struggle to get an invite with 189 with 65 points but shouldn't have any issues applying for the 190 (NSW) with 70 points.  I am now at the stage where I am worried that I will waste money on a skills assessment and English test and don't have a chance with my points as I've read that it's becoming more difficult for secondary teacher invites.

Any other teachers in a similar position?
