Hi Lucy - which airline did you email that gave you this response? I am hoping it is Singapore as they seem to do the cheapest one way flights London to Perth
Yes it’s singapore :) I’ve always emailed Malaysian airlines as that’s the cheapest to Sydney for me but they haven’t responded yet

Emirates used to if you opened a bank account with ANZ. We did that and got something like 15 kilos extra luggage each, well worth it.
Not sure if they still do a similar deal, can’t find a link.
Qantas are doing similar though so 45kgs per adult in Economy!

Drop them a line so you have confirmation
Thanks, I just emailed them and got this response if it helps anyone else.
Please be informed that if you hold an unused/unstamped/not validated migrant visa that specifically states that you are permitted to remain in Australia indefinitely / permanently for flights departing from London/Manchester you will then be entitled to our migrant baggage allowance (i.e. 40 kilos per seat paying passenger).
This baggage allowance will only be granted when you check in at the airport when this visa is sighted and checked that it has also not been travelled on before, this has to be the first time it is being used.
You can have as many items of checked luggage as you wish provided:
• The total combined weight of all the items put together does not exceed your total checked allowances
• No single item of baggage exceeds 32 kilos in weight, as a health and safety requirement

Hi Everyone,
I just wondered if anyone had a list of airlines which offer extra migrant luggage?
Thanks

We’re using John Mason who will store the items at the destination until a delivery address is advised (for a fee of course)
I’d imagine most major shippers would have similar facilities. Some offer free storage at origin or destination as part of the quote.Ah that’s perfect! Thank you . Will try get some quotes

Hi Everyone,
I wonder If someone could give me some advise on where they got their containers shipped to? As it takes about 3 months I do not know exactly where I will be living at the time of delivery, so I was thinking maybe just getting it delivered to a storage company. Or do they contact you when the container has arrived at the port and where you would like it delivered?
Thanks

From the NSW website:
“All NSW nominees who are granted a visa must update us when you first move to NSW. Permanent visa holders need to update us with their contact details for the first two years of their visa.
- Skilled visas: Complete and submit the NSW Skilled 190 Nominee Information Update if you are a NSW nominated skilled migrant and need to update your contact details.”
You don’t need a new visa to move after the 2 years.
That’s great, thanks for the info

Hi Everyone,
Would anyone be able to advise websites to search for short term rentals when first moving to Australia. Not looking for shared accommodation.
Is it a case of just renting a holiday home as if you were going on holiday.
Also what do most people do before looking for a more permanent rental? 1-2 months?
Thanks

Hi Everyone,
So we have received our Visa Grant and need to make first entry by Feb 2020 to work and live for a minimum of 2 years in NSW before we can work/move anywhere else in Australia. Once the 2 years is up how do they know you have completed the required time? Do we need to register anything when we move there to prove this or do you need to apply for another Visa if you wanted to live/work anywhere else?
Thanks

Wow congratulations. I am so pleased for you. No News on my visa. we are still waiting. On sunday its 8 months exactly since we lodged, I get increasingly worried but the MA said no use worrying. I called the MA the other day to see that our grant hadn't landed in their 'spam' email box and they said no, they checked my immiaccount and we are still in the system somewhere.
So all the best Lucy for your future endeavours. It will be all systems go once you are truly on your way. Happy Days.
Thank you so much! I really hope you hear something soon, it was and is worrying seeing others get their grants even though they have applied after..I have no idea how it works! But i’m Sure you’ll here from them very soon and as your MA said there is no use in worrying , it will come around in th end. I’ve got my fingers crossed for you !

Limbo is an understatement... but we keep saying to each other - so many thousands of families and people have been through this waiting. Then suddenly they get their visa grant. That must feel surreal when that happens! Anyway, yet another week goes by and we have not heard from our MA with any news. And its nearly Easter. May as well enjoy the warm sunshine due this weekend and a few Easter Eggs. Holding thumbs, holding everything. All the best too for your Grant.
Hi WizardofOz2018,
Received my grant today! so happy but also very nervous now..need to plan plan plan! Any news on yours??
Thanks

Hi Lucy, no we did not front load the Health and police checks, these were done in Jan and Dec respectively. Everything else was completed by the MA anyway, including Form 80 at the application time. So our clock is ticking, based on the Dec earliest date from the PC. We have Still not heard anything yet. We are on about 7 months and a week now since lodgement. Its a very trying time, we wanted to book a holiday To Aus for the UK summer time, but will not do that until we have the Visa . But we knew we would have to wait - it just feels so imminent but we will have no idea when it will be granted. how are things for you?
Yes still waiting here too hate being stuck in limbo but what can you do! I see from a lot of other posts that after they have submitted medicals and police checks they were granted the visa within a week or 2..but I guess every case is different. Fingers crossed we hear something soon. We are now at around 5 1/2 months since lodging our visa.

Hi people,
I'm new to this form and was wondering what the wait time is after immigration ask for medical checks and police checks? My agent said it would usually be a matter of a few weeks after submission? Anyone shed some light on this situation would be great, thanks in advance
Hi!
I just wondered how long did it take for your visa to be granted after you uploading medicals/Police checks in the end?
Thanks

Hi WizardofOz!
Yes we lodged in Oct 2019. Did you frontload your medicals and Police Checks? We waited for CO contact before doing ours. Medicals done 18/02 and police check 19/02, however we had a slight problem where my police check came back as 'no live trace' for a warning I got when I was 14 so had to send over more info on what it was for etc and a signed statutory declaration which I am doing tonight. From most forums I have read that your visa is granted pretty quickly after loading medicals/police checks so that's why I wondered if you had front loaded them?
Thanks

We submitted visa application 18th/19th October, also decided to wait for CO contact. We had contact on the 3rd Jan and have now submitted medicals and police checks. Hopefully you should hear very soon! Xx
That is good to know. fingers crossed we hear something soon xx

I was worried about uploading them ahead as I believe they expire after 12 months, so if there was a delay on visa grant we would have to pay to do them again. Do you know how long it would usually take for CO contact?
Thanks

Purchasing a car in Australia
in Aussie Chat
Posted
Hi everyone ,
we have just moved to New South Wales this weekend and we are looking at purchasing a used car and would like some help with how it works out here.
Me and my partner are not insured on any vehicle, what are the rules on test driving ? Is it the car itself that is insured?
if we decide to purchase a vehicle do we sort out the insurance before driving it home?
Also is there any other things to sort out like in the UK? Car Tax for example.
Thanks
