  1. Hi all,

I got my PR last year and just submitted the application of citizenship last week.

During this year, I did not travel for more than 3 months.

Do I need to apply for police check? If yes, should I directly do police check and put the reference number? or wait until Immi ask me to do so.

Thanks a lot for answering =)

She can ask the company to sponsor her for PR but they don’t have to. They can nominate as a direct entry stream application now if she meets all the requirements. For the transfer application stream she must wait until the two years are up. If the PR isn’t granted by the time her current visa expires then she will go onto a bridging visa until it is.

If she can qualify for a skilled independent visa she can apply without sponsorship and it will be quicker and more straightforward.

Thank you!! I will tell my friend about this!!

To be honest, that sounds like they are exploiting you because they know you cannot leave without risking your visa.    If you do leave, I think they would be likely to complain so it would be a risk.

Agreed.  A difficult situation; I suggest you use all the routes available to you in discussing your concerns with your boss; with HR and if necessary with a union or employee support body - getting this on record would help your case later if you are forced to leave.

Thank you very much for your replies!! It is useful 😃

Thanks for your reply. Since I got PR, my company keep cutting staffs and push their workloads on me. That's why I suddenly think of changing job T_T

@babysleep Where did they send the police check to?

If they are updating Immi directly, then you'll be able to see when they have it, when your application is updated with the same.
If they are sending it to you / your MA, then you'll need to update your application and again, would then know when Immi have it, once the application is updated.

    Thanks for answering!

They send it to immi directly! So what I need to do is keep logging in and see whether there is still a flag for police check? lol

    Character and Police Certificate Requirements

As per the Department’s website (Character and Police certificate requirements), some countries such as Singapore, Japan, The Netherlands, Fiji, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, or Hong Kong, require a letter from the Department first in order to provide a penal check (‘penal check letter’). If you wish to ‘front end load’ the penal check process to reduce processing delays you may wish to obtain a penal check letter before you lodged your visa application or prior to receiving a request for further information from the Department.

For such requests you can email the bio-data page of your passport to nsw.pse@homeaffairs.gov.au and include the words “Penal Check Letter” in the subject line of your email.

Thanks for reply! I have already received the letter, just finding place to do fingerprint ^^

Hi @babysleep It's quite a process with Hong Kong. I helped a friend navigate the process .   It's best to check the HK gov website. All the steps are there and you need the immi letter attached as HK govt wants to know the reason and proof of the reason. You will use the Aus Post office but not all Post offices know the full process so best to go the the ones where there is a big HK expat community such at the CBD. Hope this helps.

Thanks! I have already checked the website, just not sure whether I can go to police station to get fingerprint done!

As soon as you lodge your 186 application onshore, you're eligible to apply for Medicare.  I think you also need to currently hold a visa that grants you work rights so a 457 would fall into that category.

    Thank you for telling me!
