One of our boys went to Ocean Reef secondary and did fine. Our youngest has autism and we payed a bit more to send him to St Marks Babtist that has a stream for learning difficulties.

It was worth the extra money for him as he thrives on routine, uniform and discipline. Ocean Reef was very laid back, they had a uniform but not really enforced, don't know how my eldest concentrated going by the barely there skirts the girls used to wear. Couple of early mornings surfing lessons and marine biology with a trip to the Albrolhos as a subject. Sport was his favourite subject and homework was virtually non existent.

He did fine though, got an apprenticeship as a sparky soon as he left. Never wanted to go to uni, so saved us heaps.

The youngest enjoyed St Marks and did OK. Much stricter with uniform and discipline. He got himself suspended a couple of times. Lots of homework too.

I think it depends on the kids attitude more than a school reputation. There's some decent public schools with good facilities Butler way. That's what you'll probably notice, the facilities. Big playing fields, good gyms and sports equipment. If your kids like sport they'll be fine. Good way to make new friends too. Lots of UK expats in that area too, so they won't feel out of place.

    Hi paul1perth

I think our son would rather the laid back feel to school he has far more interest in sport and outdoor activities rather than sitting in a classroom. We have looked at the catchment area and seems clarkson community high school is in area, the reviews look quite good for the school

All government schools have a local intake area and as a temporary visa holder you’re going to have to pay fees in WA even for government schools.

    Hi Quoll

thanks for the link it looks quite helpful. I know we will need to pay for school fees its just at government school these seem to be considerably cheaper than independent schools and catholic schools

  4. Hi all myself my wife and 2 kids are moving over to Australia as soon as the current situation as passed.

We are looking at Butler in north Perth but we can’t seem to find if there is a catchment are for a government secondary  school. We are coming over on a 4 year working visa (as long as it is still available) and hopefully using this as a pathway to permanent residency hence the reason why we need a government secondary school for my eldest son as the school fees at others are a bit expensive but if it has to be it has to be.

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks for taking time to read

  6. Hi sorry if this sounds boring to some or seems daft but I have been looking around the internet looking for advice and getting very overwhelmed by the different sites... A friend of mine recommended this site so here’s my situation.

I am 32yrs old my wife is 33yrs old, i have 3 children daughter 11yrs old and 2 sons one 9yrs and other 5months.

I am a hgv diesel mechanic and i have done a online application and get an email back saying with my occupation and having family already in Australia that are willing to sponsor us, the agency are pushing for me to transfer money to them to get things started i have done research about the firm and had both positive and negative reviews does anyone have an idea how much the application process is and hoe long it takes as some sites say years and some say months and like i say it’s getting a little overwhelming but it’s been our dream to move over and family ties are no longer a problem.... any advice would be greatly appreciated ?
