After a 7 year immigration journey, this isn't exactly how i'd imagined my citizenship ceremony. But alas, it's done... we're dual citizens of Australia and the UK!

Thanks to everyone for all the help over the years, i hope i've been able to help others too throughout the 457 & 186 processes. It's been great to be a part of the forum through all the stress and elation!

All the best to those still waiting, your time will come really soon!

Hi everyone! The deed is done! We are Australian Citizens!!
The presiding officer was very pleasant...the whole process was very quick and efficient. Had to hold my ID up to the camera and move it back and forth until the name and number was clear enough to be read by the officer.
From what the officer said, it appears they are still ironing out issues and that soon the daily ceremony numbers were going to be picking up.
It’s taken us 12 months and a bit from application to ceremony.
Wishing everyone the best of luck with their applications. So many people have been so helpful with advice and support(a big shout out to all the migration agents on here whose advice and guidance have helped clear up so many concerns/queries). Thank you all...we’re in this together and I’m so glad that we have PIO!! Hang in there everyone...

    Congratulations 🍺🍺🍺👍

    Hi everyone,

I emailed asking for a virtual ceremony and received an auto-reply shortly after emailing. Just a short while ago (on a Sunday🤔)received an email offering me a virtual ceremony on Wed 29/4.
The email states that only I can be visible in the video while others may be outside the view of the camera.
I have a question to ask, my children are listed as dependents on my application. Will they be required to take the oath as well or only me(both below 16yrs)?

Wish me luck...it’s been a long journey getting here.

    Location: Adelaide, SA.

    Wooo. Congratulations

could you please let us know which council?

Hi all, I had my virtual ceremony today.

Just an update for all. As mentioned before the ceremony is brief and simple. The law/clause in the regulation is read to you on why the pledge of allegiance. Then the official reads it to you and you repeat it and that is all. i asked some quick questions and the most important are below.

    1. When the full online ceremony would be rolled out.

Ans. As soon as all technicalities is sorted out and council will also be involved to clear up the backlogs. Was told Melbourne council already started their online trial already

    2. what about testing and interviews.

They said for now they are trying to focus on ceremonies for people already approved. However, she said they are working to see what they can do to resume testing and interviewing as soon as it is possible and safe to do.

    Congratulations 🎂🎂🎂🍺🍺🍺🥃 party hard

  9. This announcement comes after thousands signed a petition requesting the government to issue citizenship online to approved applicants.

    Highlights:

    • There are currently 85,000 people awaiting a ceremony.
    • Citizenship interview and test put on hold.
    • Approved applicants jubilant at the new announcement.

‘Current health advice around COVID-19 means it is not possible for traditional, in-person citizenship ceremonies to be held,’ Acting Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs, Alan Tudge said in a statement.

‘Australian citizenship is an immense privilege, and fundamental to our national identity.

‘The Government will hold online citizenship ceremonies via secure video link, to enable people to continue to become Australian citizens during the coronavirus crisis,’ the Minister announced.

The Department of Home Affairs has commenced trialling one-on-one ceremonies for those already approved for Australian citizenship.

‘We will work with individuals with an urgent need, who cannot access the internet, to ensure their ceremony can occur safely in line with health advice.

‘When fully implemented, it is expected this new capability will see up to 750 people per day having their citizenship conferred.

There are currently 85,000 people awaiting a ceremony.

People who were scheduled to attend a Citizenship appointment or ceremony over the coming months will be contacted to make alternative arrangements.

    Hi,

I got approved on 18th oct and i am still waiting for invitation from hume. One of my friend got approved on 29th sep and he got invite for 26th feb.

    Hi sam,

i think our council is 1of the slowest in Melbourne.

Dandenong council is quicker then others.

I have tried to ring immi couple of  weeks ago. They said you should wait at 6month.

But now im thinking to ring hume council. Let see if they could help me out.

    Hi all

    I have a small ‘problem’

just had my citizenship ceremony date for 19th Feb.

it says I should wait 10 business days after to apply for a passport. I know I can fast track a passport in 2 days.

My problem is I have to travel to a business meeting on 2nd March in Dubai. If I don’t, my job depends on it.

    1. do I really have to wait 10 business days to apply for a passport?
    2. Is there any way of travelling on my British passport after ceremony?
    3. What if I tried to change the date of my ceremony? Is this possible?

    thanks a lot!

    Firstly congratulations for ceremony.

You can apply very next day after  your ceremony once you get your citizenship certificate. I am saying this because 1of the our forum member had applied very  next day after the ceremony for passport and got it within 4 days after the ceremony. Dont stress every thing should be ok..
