Hi Allan,
I'm not so sure about this as well but I think you would need a skill assessment done as you are applying under the direct entry stream. You are only exempted from the skills assessment under the transition stream. Just wondering why would the migration agent say that your profession is exempted from skills assessment?
Hi ricres,
Thanks for your reply.
I think that the migration agent has suggested that my profession would be exempted from skill assessment because as given in the DIBP webpage under the skill requirement for direct stream
“The skills requirements are:
- if your occupation is listed on the relevant legislative instrument, and you have not obtained a necessary Australian qualification suitable to your occupation, then you must obtain a valid skills assessment prior to your application. Skills assessments obtained for a Subclass 485 visa will not be accepted as they are not considered full skills assessments for permanent skilled migration purposes. A skills assessment is only valid until the expiry date specified on the assessment, or for a period of three years from the assessment's date of issue, whichever occurs first.
- if your occupation is listed on the relevant legislative instrument, and you have obtained the necessary Australian qualification relevant to your occupation as listed in ANZSCO, then you must provide this as evidence towards meeting the skills requirement
- if your occupation is not on the relevant legislative instrument, you must demonstrate that you have the qualifications listed in ANZSCO as necessary to perform the tasks of your occupation.”
Physiotherapy as an occupation is not mentioned in the legislative instrument and Physiotherapy according to ANZSCO list has skill level 1.As stated on the DIBP webpage , skill requirement for direct stream “ if your occupation is not on the relevant legislative instrument, you must demonstrate that you have the qualifications listed in ANZSCO as necessary to perform the tasks of your occupation”Wouldn’t limited registration be valid for RSMS : direct entry stream as it was valid for my 457 visa ?Looking forward for your reply. -

Hi Allan,
There are some changes that will be implemented beginning March 2018. I’m not sure if it affects the RSMS stream but there’s not much time left until March. I’ve heard that the skills assessment exemption if you’re earning above the threshold amount either has been removed or will be. With the removal of that exemption, you might require a positive skills assessment to qualify for the visa
Again, I’m not a migration agent/lawyer, so my information may not be correct but since time is tight, I’d recommend either getting your employers to seek the advice of a migration agent or you get one yourself.
There are a few here are in POI who are quite helpful.
Good luck!
Thanks for your reply . I've been advised through a migration agent that from my profession i.e Physiotherapy , skill assessment is not required. But still haven't received any substantial advice in regards to the registration query. I'm aware of the changes coming in place in March 2018. Hence trying to get the information as quick as possible

Hi ,
I'm a Physiotherapist, currently working in regional QLD, on 457 visa.
I've been on 457 visa for almost 2 years but I've recently changed my employer.
My new employers are happy to sponsor me on RSMS visa( 187). I needed some information on RSMS visa, about Physiotherapy, as an occupation.
I wont be eligible for Transition stream, as I haven't completed 2 years with my current employer. I have Limited Registration to work as a Physio from AHPRA. Limited registration from AHPRA was the basis for my 457 visa. Physiotherapy as an occupation is not mentioned in the legislative instrument. As stated on the DIBP webpage , skill requirement for direct stream “ if your occupation is not on the relevant legislative instrument, you must demonstrate that you have the qualifications listed in ANZSCO as necessary to perform the tasks of your occupation".
Below is the brief description for Physiotherapist ANZSCO list :
UNIT GROUP 2525 PHYSIOTHERAPISTS
-
PHYSIOTHERAPISTS assess, treat and prevent disorders in human movement caused by injury or disease.
Indicative Skill Level:
Registration or licensing is required.
In Australia and New Zealand:- Occupations in this unit group have a level of skill commensurate with a bachelor degree or higher qualification (ANZSCO Skill Level 1).
I'm still undergoing physiotherapy assessment process through Australian Physiotherapy council, to be competent to work as a fully licensed Physiotherapist. Hence I wont be able to undergo skill assessment, if that's a requirement for Direct entry stream for physiotherapy as an occupation. I wanted to know if my limited registration( which currently allows me to work) be valid for RSMS : direct entry stream as it was valid for my 457 visa ?
I have been asking around from some guidance but haven't received any yet. It would be it big help if someone could help me with this
